Product Description: Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related death in men, and in women it has surpassed even breast cancer. The primary cause of lung cancer in up to 90 percent of patients is smoking, and it is estimated that bronchiogenic carcinoma will develop in 10 to 15 percent of all smokers. Environmental factors -- for example, passive smoke, occupational exposure to asbestos or chromium, and air pollution -- as well as genetic predisposition in a multistep carcinogenic process may both play a part. Nevertheless, cessation of cigarette smoking is the most effective, most easily achievable, and least expensive intervention in reducing the risk of lung cancer.

Product Description: Cancer: 100 Ways to Fight Your own attitude is your brightest guiding star. Some of success is doing what you like to do. But, more of it is doing the things you don't like to do, but must. It is too easy to make an excuse, and not do it, and fail. -John Roberts As this book goes to press early in 2010, I am 75 and into my fifth year with incurable metastatic prostate cancer, which had already spread to the bones before cancer was diagnosed and the prostate removed. The statistical prognosis for the current treatments of choice is that one-half of these patients will die within three years, 75% within five. This usually happens after the standard treatments and chemotherapy fail and must be discontinued due to harmful side effects or weakening effectiveness, resumed cancer growth, and the failure of bones or key organs. I am still feeling fine, no pain, living a normal life, and I have completed eight months of chemotherapy with a 63% drop in my PSA (prostate cancer blood test) without major side affects or rising PSA.

Product Description: Recombinant antibodies have made a tremendous impact on biomedical research and are increasingly being used as clinical diagnostic and therapeutic reagents. The discovery of the tumor markers, opened a new era in the development of antibody-targeted cancer therapy. This book evaluates the potential of recombinant derivatives of an anti-MUCI and an anti- ErbB2 Mabs to serve as tools for breast cancer detection and therapy. To explore the potential of Mabs in antibody-targeted cancer therapy, a novel IgG-toxin immunoconjugate is described. This work provides evidences that bivalent antibody-toxin molecules (200 kDa) are superior to the corresponding recombinant monovalent immunotoxins (69 kDa) in killing tumor cells in culture and human carcinoma xenografts in nude mice, suggesting that higher avidity and longer residence time may outweigh tumor penetration.
