New Happening

Keeping the liver in proper working order is essential because one role of the liver is to break down excess estrogen. Poor diet, alcohol, and medications including pain relievers (ibuprofen, naproxen sodium, etc.), cholesterol lowering drugs, Rogaine (minoxidil), and steroids can damage the liver. This week we focus on Yoga for Healthy Liver.

Hot Fitness Tip of the week

If you really want to improve your health then start walking every day. A walk doesn’t just help you get more exercise, it’s also good for the soul. When you walk you’re getting fresh air and spending time away from the usual stresses of everyday life. The healthy habit of walking gives you time to think, and time to clear your head of anything that’s bothering you. There are a few ways to get more walks into your daily routine. One idea is to go for a 30 minute walk on your lunch break each day. Or you could start walking short distances (under 2 miles) where you’d normally drive. You could even start taking stairs instead of elevators. Anything that boosts the physical activity you’re doing each day will help!

Words of Inspiration

Admit defeat and enjoy success

Most likely, you have a perfectly legitimate reason for not taking action. You haven't been able to get out and exercise because the weather has been so bad. You can't get any work done on your marketing plan because the phone keeps ringing.

So go ahead and give up. Admit defeat. The weather is not going to improve any time soon. And the phone calls just keep coming. The obstacles that prevent you from taking action are not going away. Admit defeat. And then find a way to take action anyway.

Rather than fighting against something that you cannot change, look for ways to adapt. As long as you're fighting against it, you get a great excuse. But excuses won't help you accomplish anything. So give up the fight, give up the excuse. Go ahead and do what needs to be done. Admit defeat, get it behind you, and then take the actions that will bring you success.

Success Quote

"Success is not measured by what a man accomplishes, but by the opposition he has encountered and the courage with which he has maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.”

Red Pepper Gazpacho

Makes: 4

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium red bell pepper (or use jarred, roasted pepper)

  • 2 cups low-sodium tomato juice

  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped

  • 2 tsp. extra virgin olive oil

  • 2 Tbsp. dry breadcrumbs

  • 1 Tbsp. white vinegar

  • 1/4 cup seeded and diced cucumber

  • 1/4 cup finely diced green bell pepper

  • 1/4 cup finely diced sweet onion

  • 1/4 cup finely diced zucchini

  • Tabasco sauce, optional

  • Salt and freshly ground pepper

Directions:

  1. Roast pepper over an open flame, turning it with tongs until skin is charred all over, about 10 minutes. Or, preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Halve and seed pepper and place halves, cut-side down, on baking sheet. Coat skin with cooking spray and bake until pepper is soft, 30 minutes. Place roasted pepper, charred or baked, in a bowl, cover, and let sit for 20 minutes. Using your fingers, remove skin. Coarsely chop pepper, and set aside.

  2. Place roasted pepper, tomato juice, garlic and olive oil in blender and whiz until mixture is pureed. Add breadcrumbs and vinegar, and whiz to combine. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Pour into covered container and chill well, 6 hours to overnight.

  3. Check seasoning and adjust, if necessary. Divide gazpacho among 4 soup bowls. Add 1 tablespoon each of chopped cucumber, pepper, onion, and zucchini. Serve with Tabasco sauce if desired.

Yoga for Healthy Liver

The liver has many functions; stores certain vitamins, minerals and sugars for use as fuel, cleanses/filters the toxins out of your blood and controls the production/excretion of cholesterol. Your overall health and vitality, to a great extent, depends upon the health of your liver. The thousands of enzyme systems that control virtually every body activity are created there. If your liver fails to create even one of these enzymes, overall body function is impaired, creating greater metabolic stress on your body.

Keeping the liver in proper working order is essential because one role of the liver is to break down excess estrogens. Poor diet, alcohol, and medications including pain relievers (ibuprofen, naproxen sodium, etc.), cholesterol lowering drugs, Rogaine (minoxidil), and steroids can damage the liver.
Fresh food gives lightness, happiness, joyfulness and increases intelligence. The food should be suitable for the mind, body, intelligence and soul.

The relation ship between exercise and liver health is not so clear, however, yoga for liver problems is an effective way of maintaining and enhancing the health of this vital organ. Purpose of practicing yoga is to stimulate, regulate and enhance the functioning of liver.
