Chicago task force beefs up breast cancer battle
Reported October 21, 2009
CHICAGO - A Chicago-area breast cancer task force is beefing up efforts
to improve screening and treatment, especially among minority women.
The latest initiative involves 56 health-care providers who have agreed to join
a quality consortium to share data and develop better strategies for fighting
the disease.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently designated the
consortium project as a patient safety organization. It’s the nation’s first
dedicated exclusively to improving breast health care.
The Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force is behind the initiative.
Their efforts stem from reports showing far more black women than whites die
from breast cancer in Chicago.
