Pregnant Women & New Mums
with Eating Disorders
Reported November 20, 2007
The number of pregnant women and new mothers suffering from eating disorders
is on the rise here in Sweden.
Newspaper Dagens Nyheter reports that it’s a problem midwives and child
health care centres are ill equipped to deal with.
A new project is underway to map out the extent of the problem and to find
new treatment methods. In charge of a support group, Anita Hägglund says
women experience extreme frustration and anxiety with their growing bodies
with some even feeling grotesque.
The newspaper reports that women most at risk are those who have suffered
from eating disorders in the past.
