Beauty & Fashion Views of Style Icons Over 60

Being grand dames, these style icons are self-assured, accomplished, and portray an understanding of the world that the young girls can look forward to.  Each of these women is beautiful and impressive. They radiate a sense of power and style that come from surviving lifes trials.

"The body is like a machineif you dont put the right kind of fluids into it, its not going to work so well, or its going to get clogged up. are words of Iris Apfel, 93 year old and retired textile firm owner (Old World Weavers). As a young woman, Apfel worked for Womens Wear Daily and for interior designer Elinor Johnson.

In her words, Aging gracefully is about no heavy makeup, and not too much powder because it gets into the wrinkles, and you know, to not get turtle eyelids, and to not try to look young. You dont have to look like an old fuddy-duddy.

Talking about fashion Apfel adds, "Theres a sad lack of glamour in the world today, and theres absolutely no fantasy.

Chanel once said, Nothing makes a woman look so old as trying desperately hard to look young.

Beauty & Fashion Views of Style Icons Over 60 Another, Seasoned stylist and entrepreneur Linda Rodin, 67 yrs old, has spent 40 years honing her talents, and - unlike some - she's perfectly happy to reveal her age. "I don't think 66 is old" . About fashion she says, invest in original and hold on to it, its cheaper and always comes back in style, further she adds "  I'm a denim girl. Thank god it's more available now. I buy a lot of vintage jeans. I always laugh that I'm buying the ones that were mine to begin with. They're exactly what I wore! We wore button up Levi's 501s that had baggy legs, we'd roll them up, and I'm doing the same thing now. I mean, today I'm wearing I love these jeans."

Next in the line is no other than, Lauren Hutton (Kate Moss of her time), who is one of our all-time favourites in the signature style stakes. She possesses that effortless, nonchalant look that most women half her age (she's 70) can only dream of - we'd challenge you to find anyone who wears the jeans-and-jacket look better. On one's style, she adds "You've gotta develop your own and find your own. We're all completely different - different bones. Go for what suits you. Get in the mirror and you really look at yourself, not with your mother's eyes, not with your sister's eyes - just try to get rid of everybody's ideas of who you are and who you're supposed to be, and take a good look at yourself."  She says Its better to look as if youve just thrown something on rather than prissed everything up. I like when things are slightly off-kilter, asymmetrical and a little messed up.

Jessica Lange has been named new face Marc Jacobs Beauty at 64, Glorious Helen Mirren Is the New Face of LOral Paris at 69.  Similar to MJ Beauty, cosmetics brand NARS announced Wednesday that it has signed 68-year-old British actress Charlotte Rampling to front the beauty company's 20th anniversary campaign.
