Instructions :

Pressure cook the Bengal green gram in water
till well cooked and soft.

Strain the gram. Reserve the liquid.

Heat the oil and fry the cumin, chilli and black pepper powders, the
cloves, cinnamon and garlic.

Add the cooked gram and fry for some more time.
-
Add the tamarind juice, sugar and salt, and cook for five more
minutes.

Add the reserved gram water, bring to a boil, and temper with the
red chillies, mustard seeds and curry leaves. Serve hot.
