STEWED APPLES

SERVES 4

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups-water

  • 2 tbsp-sugar

  • 1 tsp-lemon juice

  • 1/2 stick dalchini (cinnamon) 

SAUCE

  • 2 cups apple syrup

  • 1.5 tbsp sugar

  • 2 tbsp custard powder

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Peel apples. Cut into equal halves. Remove seeds.

  • Boil water with sugar, lemon juice & dalchini.

  • Add the apple pieces. Cook, covered for 3-4 minutes till apples turn soft.

  • Remove the apples to a flat, round serving dish. Reserve the syrup.

  • To prepare the sauce, cool 1/2 cup syrup. Add custard power to this 1/2 cup syrup which should not be hot.

  • Boil the left over syrup with sugar in a clean pan.

  • Add the dissolved custard, stirring continuously.

  • Boil till translucent and slightly thick (3-4 minutes).

  • Pour the sauce over the apples placed in a serving dish.

  • Place a fresh cherry or a grape in the centre of each piece of apple. Chill.
    NOTE : Pears (Nashpati) may be substituted for apples.
