Personalised Make-Up Tutorial For Every Face Shape With Becky Hudson

August 29, 2018 By Becky Hudson

There are six face shapes to consider when determining which one is yours– oval, long, round, square, heart, and diamond. My face shape is a mix of heart and oval shaped, so here are the steps I take in order to get glam ready for shoots or just a fun selfie day.

To start, it is important to cleanse and moisturize your skin. Having a clean canvas is key. I start with two of my favorites from MAC Cosmetics; Prep & Prime skin and Fix+ to refresh after, which also smells amazing (leave in refrigerator on hot summer days, you’ll thank me later!).

Next, you must apply foundation. I like Makeup Forever HD; it evens out the skin and looks great in photos. I then use a damp Beautyblender to evenly apply the product throughout my face.

Now is the fun part…contouring! Use foundation, cream based or powder based products. You can even use a combination of the two which is my preference. I start with a cream contour stick, I find that sticks are much easier to work with because I can place the contour directly where I want. I use an Anastasia Beverly Hills cream stick a few shades darker than my starting foundation. Then I place it in the areas where I want to add more depth.

For most people, these areas would be the sides of your nose, the jaw line, the hollows of your cheeks, your temples and the perimeter of your forehead. You want to blend out all the harsh lines you created. I like to go back in with my wet Beautyblender for that!

I next go in with a matte bronzer and define where I placed the cream stick. Then I set it so it locks in place! I like to use a translucent setting powder. Laura Mercier makes a fabulous one! From there, you can go in and finish the rest of your makeup! I learned through practice and more practice!!! Also, YouTube tutorials are super helpful.
