2015 MMA Woman of the Year Andrea Calle Shares Her Spectacular Journey on WF!

Andrea Calle is one of the biggest experts in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) in the USA. Born in Medellin, Colombia, she moved to the U.S. in 1998. In 2003 she graduated from the University of Miami with a B.A. in International Finance and Marketing.

Her wide knowledge in MMA made this Colombian beauty become the host of the well-known ‘Combate Americas’, the first Hispanic franchise of the MMA sport in the history of the US. NBC Universal is the network where we can see ‘Combate Americas’, whose president is the world-famous Campbell McLaren, co-founder and co-creator of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

We’ve seen Andrea in the past in different TV shows in Telemundo, Univision, “Escandalo TV”, BET Spring Bling, or ABC “The T.O Show”.

Currently, Andrea is following her dream as a NPC fitness competitor in the bikini division. In her short time competing her achievements have been: 1st place at the 2012 Dayana Cadeau Classic, Overall winner, and 1st place in category C at the 2013 NPC Sunshine Classic/Wheelchair Nationals, 2nd place Masters Bikini and 5th Open bikini at the 2013 NPC Europa Show of Champions.

Namita Nayyar, President Women Fitness talks to Andrea Calle about her fitness journey and she shares her motivational tips.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You are one of the biggest experts in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) and host of the well-known ‘Combate Americas’. Walk us through your incredible journey?

Ms. Andrea Calle:

I started seven years ago with a show called El Octágono, the owners had the vision of making the face of the show the first Latina covering the sport of MMA, and they gave me the chance. Being the first female Latina covering the sport open a lot of doors and gave me the chance to cover all major promotions. 4 years ago I got an email from a very well known gentleman in MMA, Mr. Campbell McLaren, co-founder of the UFC and CEO of Combate Americas. It was really exciting what he had to offer. He wanted me to host his reality show “Combate Américas”. It has been one of the most amazing experiences in my life. I got to host with big celebrities like “Chino y Nacho”, “Daddy Yankee” and Royce Gracie. Now I’m one of the commentators for Combate Américas live events and it has been a total blessing for me. I love what I do, I love the people I work with and I can truly say I love my work.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You are a TV Host, Sports Broadcaster, MMA Commentator for Combate Americas, Blogger, Actress and Producer. How do you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?

Ms. Andrea Calle:

I really think I have excellent time management skills. I’m very organized and have learned to assess priorities in my day. I think also the passion and love I have for what I do, really helps me get things done. And if you really think about it everything I do relates with each other. I blog about things that are part of my lifestyle, health, beauty, fitness and travel, which are all part of being a broadcaster.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you shall like to share?

Ms. Andrea Calle:

Well, I am a gadget junky, which is one of the advantages I get from blogging, I get all this new machines, like the vibrating plates machine which I really love, I incorporate it in my regular routine. But I always go back to the basics, isometrics exercises, my squats and lunges, which will always be a females best friend and cardio.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Andrea Calle:

Well right now I’m not competing so I try to keep my diet as clean as possible, healthy carbs, brown rice, sweet potato, and I am pescetarian, so I don’t eat meats only fish, and high vegetables.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Share with us your haircare and skincare routine.

Ms. Andrea Calle:

Omg!!! My house if like an organic oil essences store. My skin is so sensitive and with all the makeup and stuff I have to really take care of my skin. I make my own moisturizer with a bunch of organic oils like coconut oil and also aloe vera. For my hair the same pumpkins seed oil and pepper mint oil I apply it to the roots for it to grow and coconut oil to the rest of the hair to keep it healthy.

Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding fitness models who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in this field?

Ms. Andrea Calle:

It might sound like a cliche but my advice is to never give up on your dreams. Fight for what you want, I always say to myself that every NO I get brings me closer to that bigger YES. Dreams do come true and it’s wonderful to have unachievable dreams, if they are achievable then you are not dreaming big enough.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Would you like to enlighten us about your experience as a fitness competitor?

Ms. Andrea Calle:

Actually it is an amazing experience, I got into fitness competitions because of a very known fighter, his name is Alistair Overeem. When I started covering MMA I was so impressed how this guy would lose so much weight in a matter of days, that he told me to challenge my self and see what my body could do. In that picture you can actually see him supporting me in one of my events.

Fitness competitions are so incredibly tough. It really creates discipline. I would train twice a day 6 days a week, ate every 2 hours, meal prepping, etc. But to see the way your body changes one day to the next is really wonderful. To understand your body and see the limits is something truly incredible and it really was a wonderful experience.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Who has been your greatest influence and motivator in your success in the field of fitness?

Ms. Andrea Calle:

Well Natalia Melo was really like my challenge when it came to that perfect body. And my motivator were my coaches. I started with Dennis and Helena from new body architects and Julio Hernandez RIP, they really made my fitness competitions a possibility. They dedicated so much time and effort in training, helping me with my diet, with posing etc. People can’t even imagine what it takes to be able to be ready for a fitness competition.

Ms. Andrea Calle:

Well andreacalleblog.com is my blog where I write about, health, beauty, fitness and travel. I bring recipes, reviews, exercise videos etc. This year I have been working a lot on my blog and it has been growing a lot bringing new products reviews and new stuff in the health, beauty, fitness and travel world. There you can also find like my latest news etc.

Andreacalle.com is more like my website or portfolio of my work, what I have done. I use it more to get work. Casting directors, networks etc.

You have done many photo shoots and shown your spectacular chiseled physique. What advice do you wish to give to the women of today to be body confident in order to do such modeling?

Ms. Andrea Calle:

Well, first we need to love who we are. We are all beautiful and we all have trouble areas. No one is perfect and what makes us so unique are our differences or imperfections, learn to love them and embrace them.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Tell us about the role of social media in the fitness industry nowadays.

Ms. Andrea Calle:

I think social media is essential, not only in the fitness world but in everything. It is important for branding, whether you are a company or a public figure. It is the fastest, cheapest marketing tool we all have available. The trick is to understand it and take advantage of each one. Since I started blogging I have really taken a different approach about my social media. I have learned to understand it and really use it. Each social media platform has a different target group and like different content, so I have been learning to understand my audience in each platform and try to deliver more of what they like.
