Women Fitness President, Namita Nayyar had the wonderful opportunity to talk to her about her journey. Read on.

Namita Nayyar:

How did golf happen to you?

Anna Rawson:

I was lucky that all my family played golf and were members of a private club. When I turned 13, I was invited to join as a junior member and that is when I began to play.

Namita Nayyar:

Was sports an active part of your childhood & what motivated you to take up this sport?

Anna Rawson:

Sports were everything in my childhood! I tried and played everything! From gymnastics to surf lifesaving I was lucky to get exposed to many sports. I was naturally good at most sports, so it gave me a lot of confidence! My Dad encouraged me to take up golf and I was also motivated by my older brothers’ cute friends that played!! I found it very difficult in the beginning and it was not until I got professional instruction that I was able to hit the ball! I really enjoyed the challenge.

Namita Nayyar:

You are a versatile woman- Professional Athlete, Model, and Entrepreneur – which role excites you the most? And which you find the most challenging?

Anna Rawson:

Entrepreneur excites me the most – it’s so fun to build a business! There are so many challenging aspects and things to learn daily! It’s also so rewarding to help customers! An athlete is by far the most challenging because your performance is on a scoreboard and scrutinized by the public. It’s a lot of pressure and a lot of alone time. Not to mention all the travel and lack of stability.

Namita Nayyar:

You are the Co-Founder at Seedlyfe. Tell us more about this venture.

Anna Rawson:

Seedlyfe is co-founded by my good friend celebrity doula Lori Bregman and provides superfood smoothie powders for all stages of womanhood. Our first product is a fertility smoothie blend that is loaded with all the essential nutrients to help women boost their fertility. When I was trying to get pregnant, I researched all the best superfood supplements to boost egg quality, balance hormones and increase cervical mucus. I was taking over 25 supplements a day! Seedlyfe combines all those necessary supplements/superfoods into one convenient great tasting powder!! We are currently formulating our Pregnancy and New mom blends which should launch early next year. Lori and I spoke to so many women struggling with hormone balance and reproductive issues but were both surprised that there are no products in the market serving these woman! We knew we needed to create something that could help so many.

Namita Nayyar:

During your time as a professional golfer, what fitness tips did you embrace that you have stuck with you till date?

Anna Rawson:

Foam rolling or any type of massage really helps! I am also a huge fan of pilates and yoga. I take private pilates classes with Kourtney McCollugh and she has totally transformed my body. Pilates lengthens and strengthens all the little muscles in my body which has totally helped my golf swing. I do yoga to stay flexible!!

Namita Nayyar:

You gave birth to your daughter in 2017. How has motherhood changed your thoughts about diet and nutrition? Share your pre & postpartum regime.

Anna Rawson:

Motherhood is amazing and cooking/feeding my daughter has made me much more conscious about what I am putting in my body! I now tend to eat many more vegetables and good fats. I am less concerned with protein. When I was pregnant I had gestational diabetes so I couldn’t have any sugar. It was the most amazing thing because I couldn’t care less about sugar now and I learned a lot about keeping my blood sugar balanced. I really think that’s the key to feeling great. I follow the 80/20 rule as I don’t think depriving yourself is good either!

Namita Nayyar:

How many times do you workout in a week?

Anna Rawson:

Every day I do some form of exercise even if it’s walking to the coffee shop 1 mile away. I do pilates 3x a week and try to do yoga twice! I also play golf at least 3 times a week! I love to move! It makes me feel good.

Namita Nayyar:

One piece of advice you would like to give to new mothers.

Anna Rawson:

I believe that physical development helps brain development so I am all about giving my child the maximum opportunity to move! I also believe in trusting your instincts. There are so many different ways to parent but only you know your child. From watching and observing them they tell you everything they need.

Namita Nayyar:

Your definition of Women Fitness.

Anna Rawson:

Fitness for me is spending time taking care of my body so that I have energy and I remain pain-free to do all the sports and activities in my day. Fitness makes me feel good both physically and mentally. The aesthetics of fitness is just a bonus!

Namita Nayyar:

Your Favourite motivational quote?

Anna Rawson:

“It’s what you learn after you know it all that counts.” John Wooden

Namita Nayyar:

Biggest fitness/weight loss myth that needs to be busted?

Anna Rawson:

Fat does not make you fat. So many people would do better with high good fat (coconut, avocado, ghee, olive oil) diet! Sugar and lack of movement is what makes you fat!

Namita Nayyar:

Your advice for young girls interested in pursuing golf as a career?

Anna Rawson:

Find a great instructor and start to compete as early as you can. Even if you finish last you learn so much from competing.

Namita Nayyar:

Diet & Fitness resolution or goals for 2019?

Anna Rawson:

I would like to do the whole30 diet sometime in January. It’s 30 days of no sugar, dairy, gluten, legumes, and alcohol. Think it’s a great way to reset your body to start the year.

Namita Nayyar:

Message for our readers?

Anna Rawson:

Focus on the fundamentals when exercising. When I go to classes I see so many people doing exercises without correct form or using a weight which is too heavy. Don’t be guilted by the instructor. I always use the lightest weight and probably do the least reps but I make sure I am doing each exercise with the best form so I work the correct muscles and don’t get injured!
