Ms. Namita Nayyar: You started climbing at a very young age and won the silver medal in speed Youth B at the World Youth Championship in 2002. You reached the pinnacle of success in bouldering by winning four Overall Bouldering World Cups (I’ve won 22 World Cups) and two World Championships. Tell us about this spectacular journey and how it all began?

Ms. Anna Stöhr: My parents took me and my sister to the rocks at a very young age. They are both climbers, so climbing felt very natural to me. At the age of 8 I entered a kids climbing group in Innsbruck. The coaches were Reini Scherer and Rupi Messner (who is still my coach today). A group of kids climbed together and it was a lot of fun. Once we got older we entered regional competitions, national competitions and in the end a lot of us made it to international youth comps. In 2004 I was not allowed to enter the adult Lead Climbing European Championship, but was forced to do the bouldering one. I gained a silver medal right away and was able to travel to World Cups, where I regularly placed in finals from the beginning. Therefore I was hooked to bouldering.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine?

Ms. Anna StöhrI mainly do specific climbing exercises on the climbing wall.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Anna Stöhr: As an athlete, I folllow a healthy diet in general. But I do not limit myself a lot. I love chocolate and gummy bears! I think it is important to keep a weight where you feel comfortable and not restricted.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Rock Climbing requires a lot of outdoor training and activity. Share with us your skincare and haircare routine that you follow to cope up with the strenuous training?

Ms. Anna Stöhr: The skin is a crucial factor in climbing, since you are always holding on to the holds with your hands. There are various creams for one’s hands on the market like “climbon” or “climbskin”.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Other than climbing, are there any other sports that you like to indulge in?

Ms. Anna Stöhr: Yes. Since I live in Innsbruck, which is surrounded by mountains, I love mountain sports in general. In winter I love to go skiing and in summer I ride my bike.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding bouldering girls who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in field of Bouldering ?

Ms. Anna Stöhr: I think the most important thing is to be surrounded by inspiring friends and to have fun along the way!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: How did you feel before and after winning the World Championship twice in 2007 and then 2011?

Ms. Anna Stöhr: Winning a title always feels great! In 2007 I won as a rookie and did not really know what to expect from the comp. I just wanted to prove myself. In 2011 I was the favorite and almost did not make it to finals. This was a crucial point because I wanted to prove myself that I can win again.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Who has been your greatest influence and motivator in your success in the field of your career in competitive bouldering?

Ms. Anna Stöhr: There are a few people who influenced me a lot. From the very start it was my coach and mentor Rupi Messner. My parents had a great influence because they actually did not get too involved, which was important for me. From the beginning, I’ve climbed for myself. And last but not least my partner Kilian Fischhuber has a big influence on me, his relaxed and fun attitude made training easy and always showed me that there are so many other beautiful things in life.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What according to you are the Top 3 Fitness Tips for Rock Climbing?

Ms. Anna Stöhr: Pull ups, push ups, sit ups.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:  How did you feel when you achieved your highest grade on natural rock, with the ascent of The Riverbed, 8B (V13), which represents the second female ascent of an 8B boulder in history?

Ms. Anna Stöhr: As I said achieving something always feels great!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have won gold at the 2007 and 2011 IFSC World Championships, placed first at the 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Overall World Cups, and won gold at 2010 and 2013 European Championships. Tell us about the most memorable experience that you’ve had across all these Championships?

Ms. Anna Stöhr: There are so many things that I will remember. In 2007 I was a rookie, then I became a favorite and I always had to deal with this and adapt to the different situations. Maybe the most memorable achievement was in 2013 when my partner  Kilian and I both won the European Championship. That was very special to me.
