Ms. Namita Nayyar: You were born in Bayreuth and must have started taking part in sports at a very young age. You became a professional German triathlete and won National Duathlon Champion of the years 2008 and 2009, and vice Triathlon Champion of the year 2009. You have represented the clubs TV 1848 Erlangen, Team Icehouse, and LG Stadtwerke Munchen and reached the pinnacle of success by winning European Cup at Quarteira in 2011. What factors do you consider were responsible that made you achieve
that?

Ms. Anne Haug:
Sport was always part of my life, because my dad is a sports teacher. So I had the chance to try out every kind of sport I wanted to without any pressure. And I tried a lot (Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country skiing, Indiaca, Beachvolleyball, etc…). At the age of 20 I decided to become a triathlete. But I couldn’t swim. So I practiced as long as I could manage the 1500m freestyle in the 50m Pool. I think my versatile sport education in youngest age made my late success possible.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have studied Sports at the Technological University of Munich (TU Munchen). How has this educational background helped you in your achievements in the world of athletics?

Ms. Anne Haug:
I think it helped me in two different ways. The first one is, that I have a degree and a completed education. And that gives me a lot of safety and calmness. I always have a plan B deep at the back of my mind, if plan A won’t work. And the seconds one is, that my education helped me to understand my body much better. It provided an insight into special sports fields.

But the best one was, that I meet my coach there. He was a fellow student and he’s still coaching me (now as the national coach).

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you shall like to share?

Ms. Anne Haug:
I think the most important thing in every sport is to have a strong core. That’s why the gym work is a very important part of my training. You don’t necessarily have to lift weights, but you should work regularly on your core stability. It prevents from injuries and allows you to keep up your technic for a longer time.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Anne Haug:
When it comes to the very important races I follow a menu from my nutrition coach. But it’s nothing special or fancy. Just very healthy, natural and plain food.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding girl triathlete who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in the field of women tryathletics ?

Ms. Anne Haug:
Be hard working and believe in yourself and your way. I think that’s the most important thing. Don’t concern yourself with things you can’t influence (how good others are, what others do, etc…), but stay focused on your things and your progress.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: How did you feel on your memorable winning of the World Triathlon Team Championship 2013 ?

Ms. Anne Haug:
I think the two days in Hamburg 2013 were the most memorable days in my life so far. Winning back home is something very special and unique. I still get goose bumps when I’m thinking back. The home crowed was cheering so loud that I couldn’t do anything else but running for my life. The victory on Saturday in the Sprint race was overwhelming, but the Team race on Sunday has something special. You don’t fight just for yourself but for the Team, which gives you a little bit extra powers.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have won World Triathlon Team Championship 2013, stood 2nd at World Championship 2012, won 1st position at World Triathlon Series Hamburg (GER) 2013, 1st World Triathlon Series Auckland (NZL) 2012, 2013 and Duathlon: German Champion 2008, 2009. What additional responsibilities these winnings bestow upon you towards the community and the sports of ‘triathlon’ you competed in?

Ms. Anne Haug: If you do something in public, especially if you successful with that, there’s always responsibility coming with it, whether you like it or not. So you should be aware of your actions, because people now watching. But the good thing is, you can use it for good as well. My success in triathlon gave me a little voice I can use to inspire others. I have for example the unique chance to be an ambassador for a school project which motivates kids to do more sports and join sports clubs.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
While competing in the women tryathletics you do swimming, cycling and running. Which out of the three discipline you enjoy the most and why?

Ms. Anne Haug:
I’ve always loved running. Don’t know why, but it is something natural for me. It is easy, because you don’t need much equipment or time. And you can do it almost everywhere. To come home after a very good session has something satisfying, I can’t describe.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Who has been your biggest influence and motivation in your path to success ?

Ms. Anne Haug:
I think my family and boyfriend had the biggest influence and still have. They’ve always believed in me and encouraged me to live my dream. And although it was so unrealistic to turn professional when you learn swimming in the age of 20, they never had doubts or put any pressure on me.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?

Ms. Anne Haug:
Sport is one of the best things in life. It doesn’t matter if you do it professional or just for fun. I always makes you feel good and content with yourself.
