Ashley Doris is an American born actress from West Hartford, Connecticut, who currently resides in Los Angeles, California. Ashley’s theatrical and commercial agencies are NTA Talent Agency, and the Daniel Hoff Agency. Her recent movie credits include roles in “Fortune Cookie,” directed by Rob Pallatina (distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment) and “Little Dead Rotting Hood,” directed by Jared Cohn.

Ashley rapidly rose to popularity after being discovered by Playboy and featured as Miss March 2013. Since her relocation to Hollywood, Ashley has been featured in several major projects including commercials, movies, and music videos.

Apart from being a super-talented and beautiful model and actress, Ashley is so much more than meets the eye. To get to know more about her, Women Fitness’ President Namita Nayyar recently joined her over for a quick and candid chat. Let’s check it out below.

Namita Nayyar:

You like to begin your day with?

Ashley Doris:

I always begin my day with at least one cup of coffee, and yes I put real sugar in it as well as creamer. I don’t skimp on those things because they genuinely make me happy, the second my feet hit the floor I’m thinking about the aroma of coffee filling my living room, and taking a moment to myself first thing in the morning.

Namita Nayyar:

The best part about being an actor?

Ashley Doris:

The best part about being an actor is that you get to be different people in different situations on a daily basis. When someone says that they’re an actor no matter if they’re on a major TV show or if they’re just starting out, what they really mean is that they are a professional “auditioner.” After you book a job and you have finished on set, you will throw yourself right back into the fray of reading scripts and auditioning constantly. It doesn’t matter how many years that I’ve been doing this, when I get a new addition my heart always jumps and I’m eager to print out the script right away and get to work!

Namita Nayyar:

Your first reaction when you were told that you are going to be Playboy’s Playmate?

Ashley Doris:

When I first heard that I was going to be a Playboy Playmate, I was shocked. I came from the era when the show “Girls Next Door” was on the “E!” channel, watching these three beautiful blonde women and their antics around (what basically looked like) a castle, was a fun part of my teen years. This also subconsciously gave me the idea that Playmates were always blonde with bountiful “assets.” When I became a Playmate, Playboy was using the slogan “God given gorgeous,” and I think that really helped me out because I’ve never had any plastic surgery or injections (kind of a rare occurrence in LA) I’ll always look back at my time at the mansion fondly, and I’m so thankful to Hef for choosing me!

Namita Nayyar:

Your skin essentials?

Ashley Doris:

Right now I’m using a Black Tea firming serum after I cleanse my face with Cetaphil face wash.

I like to roll it into my skin with an Earth Jade roller. A jade face roller also helps with blood circulation and gives a lymphatic drainage effect (basically makes your face less puffy in the morning.)

Namita Nayyar:

Favorite food you like to eat?

Ashley Doris:

In the morning I always have bacon and eggs, sometimes with a piece of sprouted grain toast if I’m feeling really wild. (Lol) A meal that I always seem to be in the mood for is a bowl of miso soup, edamame, and avocado rolls with a ton of ginger. I view ginger as the Asian version of ketchup, because it’s sweet, yet tangy, and adds a fresh bite on top of the avocado roll. Dip that in a little bit of soy sauce and it’s the perfect dinner!

Namita Nayyar:

Your favorite health drink?

Ashley Doris:

The best health drink I can think of is water. I have a huge water bottle that I carry around with me during the day, and I am constantly refilling it.   I like to stay hydrated, and drinking a lot of water also makes you feel full so you won’t snack on anything bad throughout your day.

Namita Nayyar:

Pre and post-workout meals on an average?

Ashley Doris:

Before I work out I usually eat something with a fair amount of protein in it. After my work out I have a green smoothie, in which I’ll add a scoop of strawberry protein powder.

Whatever I do eat though, it always tastes good, I’ll never force myself to eat something that I don’t like, or drink a smoothie that tastes chalky but has a ton of protein. The trick to staying in shape is finding foods that you love and want to eat every day. If it feels like a chore just to get through your day of eating, it’s never going to be sustainable long-term.

Namita Nayyar:

What is your daily workout routine?

Ashley Doris:

I have a very simple workout routine that begins with 30 minutes of cardio while listening to my favorite music, or YouTube videos. Next I work on my abs, using a 20lbs weight, I do 90 Russian twists on the ground. After that I do a few sets of curtsy squats (they are easy on my knees) and three 30 second planks to finish up. Sometimes I’ll throw in different exercises so my body doesn’t get used to my usual routine.

Also, dancing is a great way to stay in shape, I take hip-hop classes with a friend, and by the end of each class I always say the same thing, “we must’ve burned 1000 calories just now,” while panting my way back to my car.

Namita Nayyar:

Top 3 fashion must-haves?

Ashley Doris:

The top three fashion must-haves for me include a form fitting simple black dress, the classic LBD can be worn during the day, at night, or to a formal event, it’s all about the accessories and the shoes you choose to wear with it.

Another fashion must-have are a few good choices of flat shoes. I know it’s expected in our society for women to constantly be in high heels, but to be honest my knees and feet just can’t take wearing high heels all the time. I am the girl who brings a small pair of flats in her purse, and directly upon leaving an event, I’ll put those flats on and take my heels off while walking to the Uber, and I’m unapologetic about it!

The third fashion must-have, might be kind of surprising. I’m really into baseball hats right now, this is a great way for me to not have to style my hair when I am doing simple errands about town. I’ll spray my hair with a little bit of water, let it curl up naturally and throw on a baseball hat. I think’s a really cute and athletic “girl on the go” look.

Namita Nayyar:

Favorite hairstyles when at home and when you’re at a party?

Ashley Doris:

My favorite hairstyle when I’m at home is to take the hair in front of my face and pin it up with a small clip the top my head. It probably doesn’t look very attractive, but it keeps it out of the way while I’m cooking, doing laundry, and re-filling my coffee cup.

I love wearing my hair down when I’m going to parties, I’ll blow it out, and add some big Victoria’s Secret style curls to it. My type of hair does not react well with humidity however, so sometimes it ends up looking like the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz, instead of The Adriana Lima look that I was initially going for.

Namita Nayyar:

What is the best compliment that you have ever received?

Ashley Doris:

One of the best compliments that I have received actually happened the other week. It was in an addition for a big television network that I’ve auditioned for before. The casting director is always lovely to work with, but this time she said “you truly were the part, you created a whole world.” That moment just can’t be topped.

Namita Nayyar:

Define Women Fitness?

Ashley Doris:

Women Fitness is not only a platform that talks about physical fitness, it is a tool for women to speak up about issues that affect us mentally. It empowers us when we read other women’s stories to have our own conversations that we would not have had before.

Namita Nayyar:

Your favourite dance styles?

Ashley Doris:

I have been trained in ballet and jazz from an early age, but now I love taking hip hop classes. The music in class is so much more motivating than someone behind a piano (no offense to ballet students!) You can learn a lot even when you’re not in class, by watching choreographers class videos on Instagram or YouTube. Through social media a lot of choreographers are taping their classes and letting thousands of people view them for free. It’s like when a football player reviews tapes of their competitors to analyze  each play. You can pick up on so many little nuances of dance, and then implement them into your own style.

Namita Nayyar:

Do you like to workout in a gym or outdoors?

Ashley Doris:

I enjoy working out in an indoor gym, I plug in my headphones, turn on some good music or a podcast and enjoy my time there. I use the gym at my apartment building, it’s important for me to not to have to drive somewhere every day just to be able to work out. Here in LA driving just a few miles can take up an hour of your time, and that just doesn’t seem practical to me.

Namita Nayyar:

Do you like being on social media? Why?

Ashley Doris:

I like being on social media to observe mostly, I like to watch videos that my friends make, and see what projects they’re working on.

Sometimes it’s difficult to come up with content for every day of the week, recently I’ve been posting less, and I find that while I’m not posting every day, I’m enjoying social media more. The days that I do post, the content has something directly to do to with my life, instead of choosing quantity over quality.

Fitness tip for young models and actresses?

Ashley Doris:

If you’re someone who has just moved to LA and thinks that there is an intense amount of scrutiny on your body as a woman, you would be correct. If you’re genuinely happy with your weight and size, you don’t have to bend to the expectations of others. There is a demand for your body shape in the industry, you just have to find your niche. If you do want to lose some weight, or just get healthy for your own reasons, I would suggest going hard for two months. By “going hard,” I mean eat sensible meals, and have plenty of protein as well as green, nourishing smoothies. Work out six days a week until you reach your fitness goals. Once you have attained your body goal, take solace in knowing that you can ease off your routine a bit. You can have pizza with your friends, or In N Out just because it’s a Tuesday and you feel like it. Keep working out and eat sensibly most of the time, and your fitness lifestyle will fall into place. It’s about a long term lifestyle, not short term weight loss.

Namita Nayyar:

Your favourite destinations to travel to in 2019?

Ashley Doris:

Las Vegas is only a short hour long flight from LA, but surprisingly I haven’t been there in quite some time. There is something about a daytime pool party in Las Vegas in the summer heat that I just love. The decadence and energizing sizzle in the air is so alluring, I hope to visit soon!

Namita Nayyar:

Extraordinary experience as a model?

Ashley Doris:

Being able to become friends with so many amazing and successful women in this industry has been the best experience that I could hope for. I’m friends with people who understand what I’m going through, whether it be audition woes, creating content for social media, or constantly being “on call” and available for potential auditions here in LA. These women understand certain things that perhaps other people who aren’t in this industry would have a hard time grasping. I’m so lucky to have people to call or text who truly understand me!

Namita Nayyar:

Any future projects that you’d like to tell us about?

Ashley Doris:

I have a film coming out with The Asylum called “Flight 666.” I have worked with this casting director and film director before and together they produce amazing work, I can’t wait for its release!

Namita Nayyar:

Message for your 122K followers on Instagram?

Ashley Doris:

Thank you so much for sticking with me whether you’ve been following me for years or you’re new to my page. I started putting out some short videos this past summer, and they evolved into my “here in the wild” series. I put out these videos because I realized when you look at my page you couldn’t see my true personality. When I became a Playmate, the company actually made my Instagram handle for me, as well as my Twitter handle. At the time, I thought that I should post photos that kept in line with the sexy girl next-door image. But sometimes the girl next-door just wants to put on a safari hat and make fun of all the stereotypical social media tropes, all the while acknowledging that she is one of them.

If you are one of my followers and you ever need advice, especially if you are a girl who is new to LA, feel free to message me with your questions. When I was new to LA, I wish I had someone who had been through the same situations so that she could give me advice and guidance. Don’t be afraid to ask me any questions that you may have about modeling, acting, or social media. Thank you so much, and don’t be afraid to be yourself, somehow everything’s gonna fall right into place.
