Devin Logan: Silver medalist Freestyle Skiing 2014 Winter Olympics : Tells her Mantra of Success

Devin Logan was born on 17th February 1993 in Oceanside, New York. She is an American free skier from West Dover, Vermont. She was the winner of a silver medal at the 2012 Winter X Games in the slopestyle contest. Devin also took home a silver medal in the first ever Olympic slopestyle competition held in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Devin grew up in West Dover, Vermont in a skiing family. Her brother’s Sean and Chris are both well known professional skiers. Devin hit the slopes at a young age and at first had dreams of being a racer. Her brothers soon talked her out of that and she began heading to the freestyle competitions her brothers were competing in. It was apparent that Devin was bound to be a great skier. By the time she was 16 she was being invited to international competitions like the Junior World Championships.

The year 2010-2011 was a break out season for Devin. She laid the groundwork by winning The North Face Invitational and then burst on the world stage with her outstanding performance at the Winter X Games. She followed this up by claiming first in Big Air, Slopestyle and Halfpipe at the Wintergames NZ.

The coming years should be even more exciting for Devin. She was named to the inaugural U.S. Free skiing Team for both Slopestyle and Halfpipe. This allows here access to the training facilities of the U.S. Ski Team as well as Team support at events.

Devin Logan, Silver medalist Freestyle Skiing 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You started skiing at a very young age, your brother’s Sean and Chris were your mentor’s. You reached the pinnacle of success by winning silver medal at the 2012 Winter X Games in the slopestyle contest and silver medal at 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. What factors you consider were responsible that made you achieve that?

Ms. Devin Logan:

I’ve always worked really hard to achieve my goals. At first it was my goal to go to X Games, but once the Olympics included slopestyle and halfpipe that became my goal. Since I started skiing at age two and competing at age six I really credit a lot of training and always trying new tricks. Some days you aren’t as motivated, but I really just try to keep it fun and ski with my friends. As long as I am having fun then I feel like the learning comes easily. It’s also important to be as strong as possible, so time in the gym is essential.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you shall like to share?

Ms. Devin Logan:

I liked to jump on the trampoline, it’s great for your core and a good way to work on your balance and quick twitch muscles. I use the medicine ball often for core workouts and try to incorporate activities like skiing and hiking into my workouts- it doesn’t feel like a workout then either!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Devin Logan:

Typically I do not, but when I have a competition I try to eat yogurt, cereal and a banana for breakfast and then for dinner I stock up on something hearty like a burger or pasta because I need to refuel. In training season it is important to have a healthy dose of vegetables and protein.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding freestyle skiing girls who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in field of skiing ?

Ms. Devin Logan:

Work hard and have fun! If you put your mind to something you can achieve your goals, the going won’t always be easy, but it’s good to keep everything in perspective and try your best.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

How did you feel before and after your memorable win of Silver medal at 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi ?

Ms. Devin Logan:

Before hand I was pretty nervous, I think my teammates and I all were. It’s a big deal, the Olympics. I tried to keep it fun and enjoy the beautiful views of Russia and hanging out with my teammates and meeting new athletes from all over the globe. The day of I was a little nervous, but I just kept taking deep breaths, listening to my music and hanging out with my friends. After I found out that I had received the silver medal, it was surreal. It really hit me when I was handed the United States of America’s flag and I remember being on the podium with my friends (from Canada) and saying “Oh my gosh! Is this really real?!”

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What kind of training you have with U.S. Ski Team as well as the Team support at the skiing events ?

Ms. Devin Logan:

The team has been a huge help. After I injured my knee in August of 2012 they provided me with great care from PT to an education at Westminster College. I could not have gotten to where I am now without their support. The team provides us with training camps and an awesome gym called the Center of Excellence.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Who has been your greatest influence and motivator in your success in the field of your career in freestyle skiing ?

Ms. Devin Logan:

Definitely my brothers, they have always been there pushing me and making me work harder. I am also pretty competitive too. While my competitors are also my friends, I want to be the best and it is cool to see how we all watch one another to see their take on a trick or rotation.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You compete in both slopestyle and Halfpipe for U.S. Freeskiing. Do you have enjoy one event more over the other?

Ms. Devin Logan:

I like them both. Halfpipe is such a fun feeling of being out of the pipe, but I like slopestyle because it is creative and cool to switch up runs and see what works best for you on the course. I can’t say that I like one more than the other. I was bummed that I didn’t make the Olympic halfpipe team and I am hoping that I will make both for the 2018 games.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
