Women Fitness President Ms. Namita Nayyar catches up with Elisa Tartler an exceptionally talented German Archer, winner of bronze medal at the 2024 European Outdoor Archery Championships; here she talks about her fitness routine, her diet, and her success story.
Namita Nayyar:
You live in Oberthulba, Germany. You started practicing archery in 2008. Later in the sports of archery you propelled your career to the height where you have been at the top of the world as an archery player. Tell us more about your professional journey of exceptional hard work, tenacity, and endurance?
Elisa Tartler:
Actually I am living in Berlin. I was born in Hammelburg and I grew up in a small town called Hetzlos. I started archery around 2008 and the big step into the national team was in 2015/2016. In 2015 I had my first ever World Championships. Since then I am part of team Germany. When I finished high school in 2017 I moved to Berlin as I started a job at the federal police sports group.
So I am a studied police woman but also a professional athlete, which allows me to focus all my day on training and competition. That’s really important because archery is a very time intensive sport. We shoot around 6-8 hours a day and do 1-2 hours of athletic training and additionally some mental training.
Namita Nayyar:
It is a dream for an Archer to participate in Archery World Games. You won a Bronze medal in the women’s individual recurve archery competition at the 2022 World Games took place from 10 to 12 July 2022 at the Avondale Park Historic District in Birmingham, United States. Tell us more about this spectacular achievement of yours?
Elisa Tartler:
My biggest dream is going to the Olympics in archery. Archery has the advantage that one discipline (70m target) is Olympic and another discipline (field archery) is at the world games. I am in both national teams and I participate in both. I haven’t been to the Olympics yet but 2022 was really special.
It was my biggest achievement at that point and kind of a relief. After not qualifying for the Olympic Games in 2021 I struggled with myself and winning an individual medal at such a big event was like everything finally paid off.

Namita Nayyar:
Antalya 2021 European Grand Prix was held in Türkiye from 7th April 2021 -11 April 2021 where you won a Bronze Medal. How does such winning honour being bestowed upon you act as a catalyst in your metriotic rise as a world leading Archer?
Elisa Tartler:
Winning a medal is always something special. Even when it’s only at smaller competitions. But I don’t think that only one competition is the reason why I got better and better. Sometimes you learn more from your “bad competitions“. It’s a mix of everything you experience and what you do with it.
Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you may wish to share?
Elisa Tartler:
We train everything a little but I would say. Most important is to do also like prevention training for the shoulders. Most of the times we do exercises like bench press, squats, deadlifts, rowing or some core stability workouts. But my goal is also to be all around healthy.
Namita Nayyar:
How do you train your abs? One secret to your toned body.
Elisa Tartler:
It’s not really a secret. I do a lot of sports and I try to eat healthy, I mean lots of vegetables and protein. Maybe the core training we do is also a good point in shaping the body.
Namita Nayyar:
Do you take a special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Elisa Tartler:
No, as I said I try to eat a lot of vegetables and my partner and me are eating very few meat. But we like cooking and like eating healthy foods so it’s not a diet it’s a lifestyle.
Namita Nayyar:
Five foods you absolutely love and five you keep to a minimum.
Elisa Tartler:
5 foods I love: avocado, cucumber, tomato, kimchi, and raspberry.
5 foods I keep at a minimum: meat, sweets, highly processed food, ice cream and fast food.
Namita Nayyar:
You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Share with us your hair care and skincare routine.
Elisa Tartler:
Thank you! That’s a first. I wash my face with soup haha and that’s pretty it. I have a day and night cream from Bebe young care. After long flights I like to do a face mask to get cleaned up again.
For my hair I wash them every two days normally, and I use different shampoos. And every other day conditioner. So nothing special here.
Namita Nayyar:
Viktor Bachmann who was awarded World Archery Coach of the Year in 2012 is your coach. How he has been a catalyst who helped you pave the way to rise in your career with discipline and a never stopping attitude. Elaborate about his influence on your professional life?
Elisa Tartler:
Viktor Bachmann was my national Coach from 2015-2017. In that time I started being an international athlete and I started to see where things can go with enough work and dedication. So I think at that time a lot of motivation for all of the following years builds up.
Now my coach is Oliver Haidn and he worked with me a lot both on technical skills and mindset skills so that helped me put these dreams into reality. Oliver has been my coach for a long time now so I learned a lot from him.
Namita Nayyar:
Five athletic leisure brands you love to wear.
Elisa Tartler:
Adidas, under armour, Nike, Erima, and Vans.
Namita Nayyar:
Five travel destinations on your wish list.
Elisa Tartler:
Australia, Indonesia, Norway, Kenia, and French Polynesia.
Namita Nayyar:
Quote you live by.
Elisa Tartler:
The magic you are looking for is in the work you’re avoiding.
Namita Nayyar:
Tell us about a day in the life of ‘Elisa Tartler’.
Elisa Tartler:
I usually get up around 7:30 in winter. In summer sometimes earlier because I go running in the morning because of the heat. I do some stretching while I am brushing my teeth.
Normally I eat breakfast with my boyfriend and we head out to training. We shoot from 9-16 and after that we go for athletic training such as running or weight lifting.
Of course we have a lunch break. The time of that changes with the daily plan but normally is around 12. After training and showering we prepare lunch for the next day and dinner.
We watch some Netflix and before bed I do some stretching and read a book. I go to bed normally around 22:30.
Namita Nayyar:
During the Covid pandemic. Tell us more about your routine to remain fit in those challenging times?
Elisa Tartler:
Actually it was quite easy because as a professional athlete in Berlin we were allowed to do our training even in covid times. Just with a lot of distance between each other and covid testing a lot. It was harder to see the purpose in all the training because there were no competitions in the near future to focus on.
Namita Nayyar:
How you were able to overcome any physical or sports injury setbacks and what advices can you give to those in a similar situation.
Elisa Tartler:
Knock on wood. I did not have any big injuries so far, but I think remember why you started doing what you are doing and know that you can come back stronger. You can work on your mental skills until your physical injury is healed.
Namita Nayyar:
What do you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and the message for its visitors?
Elisa Tartler:
I think it’s great! Women should stick together. (Well not only women but that’s what’s about). There is a lot of useful information in the website so go check it out!
Namita Nayyar:
Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding archery participating girls, who all are your fans and shall like to know from you for their climb to the ladder of success in the field of archery?
Elisa Tartler:
Even though we are striving for perfection, perfection doesn’t exist. Risk it. But the most important thing is to not forget who you are. You are more than just an athlete. Have fun, be kind, to yourself and others.
Namita Nayyar:
A message for your ardent Instagram admirers.
Elisa Tartler:
Thank you so much for your support! I try to share a lot of my journey, good and bad. So I am more than happy to have such a great community.
