Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have selected a sport which is a team sport and requires a lot of cohesiveness and family feeling between the players of the side to finally succeed, how do you achieve that?

Ms. Ellen Hoog: We spend a lot of time together so quite naturally we become friends. When you spend time with each other daily you become to know each others ins and outs.

You learn to respect all of sorts of personalities. With all our different qualities en personalities we make each other stronger.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you shall like to share?

Ms. Ellen Hoog: Our training program is very diverse, but all hockey related. An example-training week for me could be: two fitness sessions, two endurance sessions, five hockey training sessions and one match. One of my favorite exercise in the gym is the deep barbell squat where I put my feet wider than my shoulders.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Ellen Hoog: I try to eat as natural as possible. Lots of greens, fruit and whole grain products. Im blessed with a low body fat percentage so I dont have to follow a diet, but healthy food gives me lots of energy which I need for the sport. Before a match I always drink beet juice, which gives me extra power.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Advice and motivational words our inspiring and budding field hockey girls who all are your fans shall like to know from you for their climb to ladder of success in field hockey?

Ms. Ellen Hoog: I think pleasure is the key to success. Work hard and enjoy every hour on the field. When you want to distinguish yourself from your teammates you have to spend more hours on the field to practice. But never forget to enjoy the time you spent on the pitch or the gym.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: How did you feel before and after your memorable winning shot in 2012 summer Olympics semi-final against New Zealand?

Ms. Ellen Hoog: Surprisingly I wasnt very nervous for my shootout. I was very confident, because we rehearsed shootouts many times. After my winning shot I felt relieved and proud. It was the most exciting game of my life so I was extremely happy that we won in the end. After the game we were very happy off course, but when we got back in the Olympic village our focus was directly on winning the Final.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: It is told that as you lost your father to cancer a week after the European Championship victory in Ireland, an irreparable great personal loss, you with sheer determination against all odds returned to normal life again and started playing the new season started in October 2005. How you were able to overcome this emotional setback and what advice you can give to fellow sports person in a similar situation?

Ms. Ellen Hoog: Hockey was a distraction for me in a rough period. Training with my teammates and having fun on the pitch was good for me at that time. My father was always supporting me so I also felt I needed to go on for him. That thought gave me energy.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have won two Olympic gold medals, three European Championships, One World Championship and numerous other awards. How you remain so humble and lovable and success has not made you the least arrogant and proud which is mostly with all the celebrity stars?

Ms. Ellen Hoog: I am really thankful and happy to have this talent. I enjoy every tournament and I see many challenges for the coming tournaments. My role in the team is different and I’m very motivated to win the coming World Cup next summer in my own country. I think its important to have people around you who keep your feet on the ground. I have no reason to be arrogant, I have been lucky to have this talent and to be playing with the best hockey athletes in the world.
