Erica Cordie: Leading Fitness Model Reveals Her Workout & Diet Secrets

Erica Cordie: Leading and Exceptionally Talented Fitness Model Reveals her Workout and Diet Secrets

Erica Cordie is leading fitness model. She is 5’5″ in height. She grew up in Sturgis, SD. She used to love to snow ski and when she was 17 she blew out her right knee. That’s how she got into bodybuilding for rehabilitation. She has screws in her knee holding it together. She deals with excruciating pain on a daily basis while in the gym because of this. She did one bodybuilding show in 2001 and won it.

Since I grew up in Sturgis. She always worked at the motorcycle rallies there and around the country and love all her biker buddies. She has always bartender and been a shot girl at the rallies as well as some local places were she has lived. With exceptional hard work and courage she is now the leading fitness model.

Erica Cordie is leading fitness model, bodybuilder, media personality, fitness expert and a calendar girl. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar, President Women Fitness.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You use to do snow ski and when you were 17 years of age you had a serious injury in your right knee. That injury was instrumental in getting you to bodybuilding for rehabilitation. Tell us about your journey that took you to the top of the world of bodybuilding and being a fitness model?

Ms. Erica Cordie: A little background about myself. I from Minnesota and grew up in Sturgis / Rapid City, South Dakota. When I was young I did gymnastics, ran track, played basketball , cheerleading and snow skiing. I started skiing when I was about 8 yrs old. I loved down hill snow skiing and was starting to get pretty good at it when in 1997 I tore my knee in half skiing. I ripped my ACL, MCL & PCL in half. Doctors used my patella to make ligaments and hold them in place with permanent screws. Of course that was the end of my skiing career.

I had a brace and crutches for 9 months and took a couple of years of rehabbing to get somewhat back to normal. To this day I cannot train legs much more than bodyweight exercises because its never been able to handle too much and from compensation the opposite knee now is pretty painful. It doesn’t allow me to do much weighted exercise but I do what I can .:} The physical therapist introduced me to weight lifting after my muscle had deteriorated to 6 inches smaller than my other leg. I noticed quickly how my body was responding to the weight lifting and immediately was hooked.

I then moved to Denver, Colorado in 2000 and after 3 yrs of training I entered and won 1st place in the Mile High Heavy Weight Natural Body Building show. I decided to no longer compete because I didn’t like the extreme dieting and how I felt while doing it. Due to the lack of food and nutrients I had to sustain to get down to 7% body fat, the feeling wasn’t worth it to me.

I actually felt unhealthy. You don’t have to starve yourself to have a nice physique, you just have to avoid sugars and bad carbs. The world has been convinced that fat is bad for you and it’s not, sugar is. If you want to lose weight, cut out soda and fast food. If you want to double your results, get a gym pass. Unfortunately healthy food is more expensive than bad food, so you might rearrange your priorities. People always tell me, oh I like to eat to much so I could never look like that. Well no kidding, who doesn’t like to stuff their face. I could sit at home and eat all day, but it won’t help you achieve your fitness goals.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have an impeccable bodybuilder’s body. Share your exercise routine that you do to maintain such a perfect physique?

Ms. Erica Cordie: YOU DON’T HAVE TO GET READY IF YOU STAY READY. I’ve seen things on the internet about people asking if there are any “off season” pictures of me out there and the answer is no. I don’t have an “off season” like most bodybuilders. I look the same year around. How do I do it? Clean eating and healthy living.

My daily training regiment usually consist of doing an hour of cardio in the morning and an hour of weights and days that I can I will do another hour of cardio at night. I train on a 4 day split. Day 1 Back, Day 2, Shoulders, Day 3 Legs, Day 4 Arms. I don’t train chest because I don’t like the way chest muscles look on myself. I don’t have a set day off from the gym, it could be 1 day a month or it could be a week every few months. Just depends on if I fill I need it or maybe times if I’m on vacation. Although I just took a Bahama cruise and I worked out a couple of the days, so nothing is set in stone.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What is your diet? Do you take a particular fixed regulated diet comprising of nutrients and vitamins to keep you in perfect health?

Ms. Erica Cordie: Do I love pizza and donuts? Absolutely I do! Eating is one my favorite thing to do next to training at the gym. But what I love more than pizza and donuts are the daily complements people give me about my arms or shoulders or physique in general , as well as just seeing myself strong and fit ,having the body I love to have. It’s what motivates me to not eat bad.

I will have my cheat days, maybe a few days a month or every couple of months, and a few times a year I’ll take a week or so off. My cheat days,{Splurge days } will consist of pizza, cinnamon rolls, caramel frappacino’s , some donuts, cheeseburger or two, and reese’s peanut butter cups, those are a few of the foods I enjoy having when I’m having a splurge day.

Every other day I stick to a high protein and fairly high fat diet. Now I’m starting to have a few more carbs than I use to, like sweet potatoes and oatmeal. Not everyday but maybe every other day or every couple of days. I have a Ninja blender which I use daily. In it I will blend spinach, carrots, apples, ginger, chia seeds, coconut oil, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, pears, raspberries and occasionally a few different things. I will eat chicken, fish, red meat, turkey or tuna fish on a daily basis. My diet does have of a lot of cheese in it, I have always been the biggest cheese eater:} I take a daily multivitamin along with flax or fish oil, psyllium husk (fiber) , a calcium vitamin D, a probiotic (healthy bacteria) and a extra B-12.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have done bold photo shoots. What advice you wish to give to the women of today to be body confident in order to do such bold modeling?

Ms. Erica Cordie: So how do you get to the level of doing photoshoots in bikini’s or at least the confidence to do one. It really depends on where you are currently at. For women who have never worked out, the gym can be very intimidating. If you don’t know anything about working out, you should hire a personal trainer for your first month or two at the gym to learn how to properly workout. I personally believe in hiring a person who looks like they use their own advice. If you can’t afford a trainer, their are a million “how to” videos on youtube. I actually have some workout videos on my Youtube channel EricaCordieFitness.

My videos are not really tutorials, but there are plenty out there. Mine are mostly for entertainment, although I do plan on making more tutorials for people because of the high demand of questions and request I get. My youtube channel is fairly new.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Advice and motivational words for our inspiring and budding fitness models who all are your fans, what should they do for their climb to the ladder of success in field of fitness modeling?

Ms. Erica Cordie: When I first started working out, I had a poster of Timea Majorova hanging up that I inspired to have a physique like. I think if you see it, believe it, you can achieve it. But if you don’t have a goal or a road map, how will you know when you have arrived.

Destroying my knee helped my realize a life long passion in bodybuilding. I recommend if your goal is to become a fitness model or just have a more muscular physique, find a picture of the type of physique you want and hang it up some where that you can see it daily. Maybe hang is up on the refrigerator, so when you go to get that late night snack and you see your goal, you choose something healthy or simply just close the door back.

My late night snack is usually string cheese of maybe some nuts or peanut butter. I was raised by a mother who didn’t let us eat junk food or drink pop. So I don’t really have bad habits to break. She taught me to eat healthy and organic fruits and vegetables. We always had a bowl of fresh fruit on the table instead of candy. The bottom line is you are what you eat. I know its and old cliché, but it can’t be more true.

Erica Cordie on WomenFitness: I think Womenfitness.net has a plethora of information and countless success stories for inspiration. This website is no doubt a one stop shop for all your health beauty and fitness tips.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us about your endevour of your website http://www.ericacordiestrong.com?

Ms. Erica Cordie: As far ericacordiestrong.com, I wanted a way for people to be able to contact me for events. Due to the demand of photographs and calendars, I decided to start selling them on there. After having my website for a year, I am now revising and improving a new site that I will be launching at the beginning for 2015. This site will be a exclusive membership site and will focus more on videos of my workouts and worldly travels. I love traveling and one day play on parlaying my website into my own travel channel. The theme will be “Where in the world is Erica Cordie”.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: How did you inspire and motivate yourself that led you to your success in the world of bodybuilding and fitness modeling?

Ms. Erica Cordie: If you can avoid going to the gym around 5pm, that’s the prime time and the most frustrating in my opinion. I prefer to go to 24 hour gyms and I love to go around midnight. Usually at those times I have the gym to myself, there for I don’t have any interuptions and there’s no waiting for equipment. I just bought a stationary bike for the first time for my house and I can ride it while watching movies at home.

It makes it easier on those days that I want to do cardio twice a day. I prefer doing my morning cardio on an empty stomach after I’ve had my coffee. I choose to do fasted cardio in the morning because I feel like my body gets the best fat burning results that way. The thing about working out is it will seem tuff and grueling until the day you look in the mirror and starts seeing result. Once that happens you will be hooked, then other people will start noticing like friends and family and then you’ll be on fire and there’s no looking back.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: With exceptional hard work you are credited with all your achievements. Do you believe that does the hand of Providence (Supreme Being) played a role in your success?

Ms. Erica Cordie: I have a relationship with Jesus Christ and I attribute my blessed life and genetics to him.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?

Ms. Erica Cordie: I think Womenfitness.net has a plethora of information and countless success stories for inspiration. This website is no doubt a one stop shop for all your health beauty and fitness tips.
