Federica Brignone is an Italian World Cup alpine ski racer. Brignone made her World Cup debut in December 2007 at age 17, and her first full season on the World Cup circuit was in 2010. At her first World Championships in 2011, Brignone won the silver medal in the giant slalom. In December 2012, Brignone underwent surgery on her right ankle to remove a bothersome cyst, and missed the rest of the 2013 season. Through February 2019, she has ten victories and 27 World Cup podiums, with nineteen in giant slalom.

Women Fitness President Namita Nayyar talks to Federica Brignone about her incredible journey below.

Namita Nayyar:

Coming from a sports background with your mom being a former World Cup racer, was she the motivation behind your inclination towards sports? What attracted you towards skiing as a sport?

Federica Brignone:

I have to say NO! For sure all my family was always into sports and especially skiing (my father is a coach) but when I was a kid I tried a lot of different sports and having fun with my family playing games and been into nature moving! At the end I choosed skiing because I loved it since the first time I put some skis on! The thing I love most is being in the mountains, going fast, adrenaline and never be bored: I will never do the same turn twice.

Besides competing, since 2017 I have been committed in my social project of environmental responsibility “Traiettorie Liquide” that aims to raise public awareness of marine pollution because of plastic waste by emphasizing the value of water as a limited and not infinite resource. For more information visit my website http://www.federicabrignone.com/traiettorie-liquide/ and watch the video of the project: http://bit.ly/TraiettorieLiquide

Namita Nayyar:

Three World Cup wins and a 5th place in the Overall ranking, How does it feel when you look back & were your eyes always set on this goal?

Federica Brignone:

For sure it has been a good season, but I didn’t reach my goals: as a world championships medal or a podium in the final world cup standing. So yes, now I’m already working hard to improve and do more for the upcoming season!

Namita Nayyar:

How do you like to kick start your day. What does your first meal of the day look like?

Federica Brignone:

That’s very important, breakfast is my favourite meal and if I don’t do it right I can be really nervous all day and without energy. In my menu I start with a big cup of hot water with squeezed lemon, followed by a bowl with seasonal fruits, greek yogurt, seeds, whole grain, almonds and goji berrys; all with a big cup of green tea and 1 espresso! I can also have eggs with plain bread sometimes. During the day, both if I train or if I have some free time, I enjoy having a Noberasco Bio Break to get some energy between meals.

Namita Nayyar:

Before starting skiing training, what are the key points to keep in mind? 5 essentials for a beginner.

Federica Brignone:

Be fit, choose the best material for your skiing level and body, warm up, eat breakfast and have the right clothes and accessories.

Namita Nayyar:

Three components that are a must in your fitness regime? 5 exercises to build full body strength and can be done while travelling?

Federica Brignone:

For my training I use Technogym equipment.

Namita Nayyar:

Define Women Fitness website for our viewers.

Federica Brignone:

A great fitness website, where you can find interesting tips for being healthy and learn to love yourself. It’s good that there are some sport athletes who share their habits.

Namita Nayyar:

As a sportswoman, what skincare and hair care routine do you follow to combat the stress of the sport?

Federica Brignone:

My skin is really sensitive and I’m always exposed to sun and wind. I use a lot of Vichy Aqualia Thermal cream to keep it smooth and hydrated and some Vichy Ideal Soleil sun protection especially on my face. I sometimes use colour lipstick to protect my lips even more. For hair I do some mask in winter once a week; I use L’Oréal Professionnel Nourishing Mask made with 99% of natural ingredients.

Namita Nayyar:

Social media has before a huge platform to connect with like-minded people across the globe. How has it helped you in building boost?

Federica Brignone:

I’m not addicted to them and I don’t work for them. I like to show and share my athlete life on them but not much about my private.

For sure I found some small partnerships but for now I am working to be an athlete and win races, not an influencer.

Namita Nayyar:

Resolutions or goals for 2019? Motivational quote you live by?

Federica Brignone:

My goal is to win a small globe on the World Cup circuit and I’m really motivated to achieve it! What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!
