Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Being a fitness coach, you are an example of the new generation of Saudi women who are changing the course of things in the country. You coach women much older and younger in your bootcamp classes in Jeddah. Walk us through your incredible fitness journey and tell us how it all began?

Ms. Haya Sawan:

Fitness has always been a big part of my life growing up.

It is after I had my first baby that I was approached by my trainer at the time who told me she saw how passionate I was about fitness and that I should consider being a fitness trainer.

That to me was an eye opener, I truly realized that this might be possible.

I worked hard and got my certifications and as I started training I felt so happy doing it, the best part is seeing people change, become stronger, prouder and happier!

But the one person who encouraged me to start and who has been my true supporter is my husband.

He believed I was able to do it! and for him I am thankful!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You are a Wife, Mom, Certified Fitness Trainer and businesswoman. Introduce us to a day in your remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle.

Ms. Haya Sawan:

Being a mother has taught me so many things. When you are a mother you learn how to multitask, and perform at your best under stress and tough circumstances because you have the people you love most counting on you! My husband on the other hand, has been super supportive of my work and I am very thankful for that.

I will be very honest it took me a lot of work and so many ups and downs to get to where I am today. This wasn’t easy! Thankfully, I can say that I am finally able to manage my work and and family well… Do I still struggle? YES! Sometimes more than other, but I make it work! Every time! Let me take you through my daily routine, Most of you don’t know but I am an interior designer and this is where my job managing a furniture business started.

I have a huge passion for fitness health, workout and empowering women by setting a good example. I had started training about 4 years ago, I started my public Instagram account almost two years ago during my second pregnancy, I wanted to use it as a blog to motivate myself and keep myself going, turns out I was motivating other pregnant women along the way!

Now I give workout sessions after work, What makes my sessions different than others is that I make sure it works well for all moms. Same as myself a lot of the ladies I train have young kids. So I came up with an idea to have a little play area close to my workout area, Kids are entertained through circle time, sing along and crafts while their moms get an hour of workout. In the end its win win situation and no body has to feel guilty leaving their kid home!

I have also started a healthy snack business a year ago when my husband decided he wanted to loose weight but didn’t want to sacrifice the yummy snacks and his morning granola!

So I came up with my own homemade granola and coconut chips both with no refined sugars and all organic natural ingredients and too good to be true!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine?

Ms. Haya Sawan:

My Workout is a combination of cardio and strength training. I like to change up my routine to make it exciting for the ladies and yet challenging at the same time. I do high intensity circuit training using a lot of different kinds of equipment, I like to introduce the TRX (suspension trainer), Bosu, stability ball, rings, Parallets and of course weights and Kettlebells. My Training also includes interval training, Tabata and Crossfit WODs.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Haya Sawan:

I have made so many research and tried so many eating patterns. I would not call it a diet, rather so I would call it a lifestyle. I have established a very clean and healthy eating routine/ lifestyle that is applied to our cooking at home and my kids love it as well. It’s the choices of ingredients and oils that we use, the all natural sweeteners (honey and maple syrup) rather than refined sugars and I make sure it tastes delicious!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Share with us your haircare and skincare routine.

Ms. Haya Sawan:

I am flattered!! Thank you!

Honestly I pretty much keep it simple, I make sure I take off my make up have a clean moisturized face before I go to bed. I have learnt this from my dermatologist, “give yourself half an hour every night before you go to bed to take care of your skin/ face and you will thank yourself for it later!”

Also, keep yourself hydrated!! So important, the type of food you choose will also reflect on your skin so make sure they are all good choices!

As for my hair, I use a good shampoo and mask and make sure I have hair treatments every month.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Would you like to enlighten us about the role of social media in the fitness industry today?

Ms. Haya Sawan:

Social Media has a huge role in everything these days! But in fitness I feel people get motivated by what they see.

My Instagram @pregnant_and_fit   along with my Snapchat haya_sawan were great tools for me to reach out to many people giving them more awareness and motivating them to make better choices in their eating habits and workout/ fitness.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Who has been your greatest influence and motivator in your success in the field of fitness?

Ms. Haya Sawan:

I honestly have had a lot of support from my family and friends. But my greatest motivator is my husband, and I must say its not easy to balance family and work but his support makes it a lot easier!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

How do you think has the role of fitness changed for women in Saudi Arabia?

Ms. Haya Sawan:

Health and fitness has come along way in Saudi Arabia, there has been so much more awareness regarding health and fitness and it is only getting better!

Fitness gyms are opening everywhere, with many different types of exercises! Fully equipped and with great creative designs.

TRX, Circuit training, Crossfit…you name it!

Yoga and Pilates are also becoming very popular here with highly qualified Saudi instructors.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding models who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in field of modelling?

Ms. Haya Sawan:

Believe in yourself, know – and appreciate – your style and your niche and go for it. Try to shoot with respected photographers and don’t take being turned down for things personal. Many big names got plenty of “no’s” before they got a “yes”. I definitely think its easier for aspiring models to get spotted now because of social media, which is fantastic.
