Ms. Namita Nayyar: You did graduation with Magna cum Laude from University of Maryland and graduating Summa cum Laude from Emperor’s College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. How this educational background has helped you in the profession you are pursuing?

Ms. Heather Lounsbury: My bachelor’s in Russian Linguistics and German Literature opened my eyes to different cultures. It made me curious to want to learn more about different countries and their ways of living and eating. I was already interested and studying nutrition on my own since high school. So food and diet was a big focus for me.

My degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine prepared me for much of what I do today. I had and still have some incredible teachers. They’ve taught me countless ways to treat my patients and get the best possible results. On top of my Masters Degree, I have taken dozens of courses to help me be the best physician I can be.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: The women of today live a stressful, time stretched and very demanding lifestyle. What advice you have for them in case they are in search for weight loss and what they should do to de-stress themselves?

Ms. Heather Lounsbury: Eating nutrient dense whole plant foods will give you the energy you need and help you decompress. The fiber in those foods will fill you up, so you’re not feeling hungry an hour later. Avoiding sugar and caffeine is important, because they cause energy and emotional crashes, making you more dependent on them. Drink plenty of water to fill your belly and aid in detoxification. Take a day off from the internet, TV, and ideally your phone at least once a month. I promise, it’s possible. Do exercise that makes you happy. I personally love Zumba. I burn hundreds of calories and always walk out of class with a huge smile on my face.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Share your exercise routine that you do to maintain such a perfect physique?

Ms. Heather Lounsbury:
I work out 5-6 times per week. I try to mix it up. Zumba, of course. Yoga, swimming, spinning, hiking, riding my bike along the beach are all part of my regular routine.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What is your diet? Do you take a particular fixed regulated diet comprising of nutrients and vitamins to keep you in perfect health?

Ms. Heather Lounsbury: I’m 100% plant based, so I don’t consume any animal products. I limit my sugar intake. I don’t ingest any caffeine except for the rare dark chocolate. I drink at least 2 liters of water per day. Almost all of my diet is organic. I start my day off with a few supplements, including probiotic and a B complex. I drink those down with a large glass of lemon water. My breakfast is a smoothie with unsweetened hemp milk, kale, spinach, carrots, bananas, blueberries, mango, chia seeds, and blackberries. This way I start off my day with tons of nutrients, giving me energy that last several hours. Lunch and dinner vary. But I always have a huge salad with several veggies, greens, beans, and sprouts.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What is your motivation to take a multifaceted personality of an acupuncturist, herbalist, nutritionist, reiki master, motivational speaker, physician, vegan spokesperson and an author?

Ms. Heather Lounsbury: My motivation is to help empower as many people as possible to take charge of their health and heal naturally.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What advice you can provide about dietary habits for the new mothers wishing to have a fit post pregnancy body?

Ms. Heather Lounsbury: It’s not much different from my regular weight loss advice. Adding get as much rest as you can. Fatigue is unavoidable with a newborn. But do the best you can. Fatigue leads to a release of stress hormones that cause weight gain. Also, keep taking a whole foods, organic prenatal even once you’ve finished breast feeding. You’re likely to skip meals, so make sure your getting all your nutrients.

Veggie soups, juices, and smoothies are quick and filled vitamins and minerals. Make soups that will last the week to cut down on prep time, since you probably don’t have much spare time for cooking. Getting enough calories is also important. If you’re body is starving, your metabolism will slow down and cause more weight gain.

Ms. Heather Lounsbury: Thanks for the compliment! My skin and hair is the direct result of my lifestyle and eating habits. Our skin and hair need certain vitamins and minerals just like the rest of our bodies. My skin care products are mostly from a company called The Vital Image based out of Los Angeles. Their products are organic and 100% natural. Same goes for my hair.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us about your successful endeavor of company “Breathe”?

Ms. Heather Lounsbury: “Breathe” has been a lot of fun for me. I’ve worked on tour with bands, in studio, at private homes, and on location with dozens of people in the entertainment business. Every day is an adventure. Breathe is also a referral source for other types of physicians and healers, including chiropractors, physical therapists, and chefs.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us about your book “Fix Your Mood with Food” and who are the targeted audience who shall benefit the most on reading it?

Ms. Heather Lounsbury: Fix Your Mood With Food is really for everyone. Because as you pointed out, everyone is stressed. Anyone who wants to eat better and feel better emotionally and physically will get something from my book. It’s a great resource for people who are worrywarts, anxious, heartbroken, dealing with grief, PMSing, frustrated, or depressed. You might think you’re stuck feeling a certain way, but that definitely isn’t the case. Eating the right foods for you can alleviate or completely get rid of whatever ails you.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You are vegetarian and have been advocating the same. Tell us the benefits of being a vegetarian?

Ms. Heather Lounsbury: There are so many benefits to eating and living a plant based life! Make sure you’re eating whole foods, because french fries, pizza, and ice cream can all be vegan. You’ll have more energy. Your skin will look younger. You’ll get sick less often. You reduce your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. So what’ s not to love about it?

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You advise natural selections for mood enhancement with dietary awareness. A lot of women report drop in their sex drive with progressing age and a busy lifestyle. Do you advise any foods or herbs intake or lifestyle change for such women to boost low libido?

Ms. Heather Lounsbury: I only prescribe herbs if I’ve actually done a consult with the person. But I can say with supplements, take a B complex and adrenal support to aid in energy levels and reduce stress and anxiety. Foods to eat- dark leafy greens such as kale, spinach, and watercress, walnuts, leeks, and quinoa are wonderful for getting your mojo back.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: With exceptional hard work you are credited with all your achievements. Do you believe that does the hand of Providence (Supreme Being) played a role in your success?

Ms. Heather Lounsbury: I’ve definitely worked hard to get to where I am today. But I’ve had a lot of support from family, friends, teachers, and my patients. My spiritual beliefs keep me grounded and staying focused and grounded. I meditate daily and always ask for guidance.
