Holly Rilinger: Fitness Expert Reveals Her Workout, Diet and Beauty Secrets

Holly Rilinger is a fitness expert who is changing the game, delivering expertise and tough workouts, wrapped up in motivational shout outs and impromptu dance parties. She is all about taking control of your life without ever taking yourself too seriously. She lives every day with purpose, always looking to inspire change and reach for greatness. Coach, trainer, and 10-year veteran of the fitness world, Holly Rilinger delivers doses of inspiration bundled up in high-intensity sweat sessions. A Nike Master Trainer, Flywheel Sports Master Trainer, Certified Personal Trainer, and Group X Instructor with numerous certifications, Rilinger channels the same drive and discipline it took for her to make it as a professional basketball player internationally, into every one of her clients. She runs seasonal outdoor Training Camps, Destination Training Camps around the globe, club-themed After HRs workout parties, personal training services, and a popular fitness blog at HollyRilinger.com.

The ultimate coach, Rilinger uses a true team approach she learned in the real life locker room, moving shoulder-to-shoulder with her clients as she encourages them to focus and take charge of not only physical goals, but life aspirations too.

On her brief profile on her website it says ” Picture a childhood bedroom: posters of Michael Jordan, motivational quotes plastering the walls, sneakers and gear piled everywhere, and a young girl lying in bed, tossing a basketball into the air. Picture the chart this girl pinned to her garage wall to keep track of her daily workouts, percentage of shots made, and areas for improvement. Now, picture this young girl as an adult, one who turned hesitations about her 5′ 4″ frame into fuel for making her basketball dreams come true. But this is not a story about dreams – it is one about reality. This is the story of Holly Rilinger “.


Holly came to be named the #1 Freshman Pointguard by USA TODAY, the All-Time Leading Scorer at James Madison University, and a Strength and Conditioning All American. After all, her talents on the court were undeniable. However, things took a turn when reporters and coaches wary of her height aired their doubts about whether she could “wow” in the pros. After being turned down consistently by US agents, Rilinger discovered a New Zealand coach who had watched her game tape and wanted to give her a try. Rilinger drove his team to the National Championship that year. Finally attracting the attention she deserved from agents, Holly was quickly signed for her first pro gig in Germany, and subsequently for a cameo appearance on the WNBA team Phoenix Mercury.

Today, Rilinger channels the same drive, discipline, and heart it took for her to make it in the pros into every one of her clients. “Sharing the hope,” Holly says, “that is where the magic lies.”

Holly Rilinger is a leading fitness expert. She is an exceptionally talented and accomplished fitness trainer. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You defied all odds with your “anything is possible” attitude and with thorough commitment and discipline realized your greatest dream, a successful Pro Basketball career. Tell us about your journey that took you to the top of the world of fitness training?

 

Ms. Holly Rilinger:

I knew I wanted to play pro basketball when I was 6 years old. I feel so lucky to have known what I wanted to do at such a young age. No one had to tell me to practice. I loved the game and I decided that I would do whatever it took to make it. It wasn’t an easy road. I failed time and time again. It’s what made me a a great player and it’s what now makes me a great trainer.

If there is one thing I do well, its inspiring and motivating people to be their best. It starts in the spin room or gym and it’s something they take into their daily lives. My dad says I have the gift of knowing exactly the right thing to say at just the right time. He’s right. I know when you are just about to give up. I know when you feel defeated. Because I have been there time and time again. I didnt’ give up and I won’t let you give up either. I will push you to be the best you can be.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

How your education and background of BS in Kinesiology/ Exercise Science, AFAA Certified Personal Trainer and as a AFAA Certified Kick Boxing Instructor has helped you in your present profession of Fitness Trainer, Fitness Expert and Fitness Model?

Ms. Holly Rilinger:

Having a degree in Exercise Science sets you apart from the pack. It’s not just a certification it’s and education. I knew I was most interested in sports when I was in college. I wanted to understand how that body works. Continuing your education is the single most important thing a trainer can do.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Share your exercise routine that you do to maintain such a bikini perfect physique?

Ms. Holly Rilinger:

I spin 11 hours per week because I’m a spin instructor. I also follow a weight training program 3-4 times per week. In the summer you can also find me surfing as much as possible. You can find my program BeachFIT on my website. It’s a 90 day program designed to get you a beach body!!!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What is your diet? Do you take a particular fixed regulated diet comprising of nutrients and vitamins to keep you in perfect health?

Ms. Holly Rilinger:

I eat organic all natural foods 90% of the time. I eat well sourced meats, and organic vegetable. I try to stay away from processed foods, sugar, starches and most dairy and grains. Don’t get me wrong. I am all about balance, I love my tequila and chocolate as well. My favorite cheat meal is pizza and spaghetti.

What is your motivation to take a multi-faceted personality of a fitness model, fitness trainer, media personality, contributing editor and nutritional expert ?

Ms. Holly Rilinger:

I love to inspire people. I’m very good at self motivating. When I was a kid I knew what I wanted and I went after it. I was able to visualize what I wanted, set goals and work hard to get what I wanted. No one ever had to tell me what to do. This is my gift to share with the world now. Fitness is something I believe in so it makes it easy. Of course I want everyone to be healthy, but in the end I believe movement and fitness makes you HAPPY. And happiness is the key to life. Everyone wants to be happy.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hair to make them look so stunning?

Ms. Holly Rilinger:

Thank you! I really don’t do anything special. I don’t really even stay out of the sun!! I love being outside. I eat right and that helps keep all parts of your body healthy. I moisturize in the morning and evening as well.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Your endevour and newest creation is an outdoor boot camp-style program called “Training Camp” which is modeled after a pro athlete’s preseason training period. Tell us more about your this successful venture?

Ms. Holly Rilinger:

This is a one month outdoor boot camp program. I believe in the power of team, goal setting and commitment. With a team, you have people that will support and push you. Setting goals are the only way we can measure our success in life. And by committing a one month program, you can create momentum and habits.

You have been associated with and has been volunteering in the Congo to teach African girls physical education. This is all dear to your heart, tell us how you have been able to achieve and quench your thirst of giving back to the society through this endeavor of your?

Ms. Holly Rilinger:

I collaborated with The George Malaika Foundation and created a PE program for their girl’s school in The Congo. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I met 150 young girls and although we could not speak the same language, we could communicate with exercise. It was powerful. Giving these girls the gift of physical education will help them with their self confidence and help shape them to be strong women. They won my heart.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You are Pre and Post Natal Certified Fitness Expert. Tell us more about this training and expertise of yours for curious pregnant and also for new mothers?

Ms. Holly Rilinger:

It’s important to know what you can cannot do during your pregnancy to keep both your baby and yourself healthy. Staying in shape during your pregnancy will not only help you during your delivery, but will help you recover and lose that baby weight. You should always consult your doctor before taking on any workout program during your pregnancy.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
