Namita Nayyar:

Your father was also a singer and worked with legendary 80s producer King Jammy. What inspired you to take up singing was it your father?

Ishawna:

I always loved singing it just came natural to me, I always knew this was my career path. 

Namita Nayyar:

Introduce us to a day in the life of Ishawna, the artist.

Ishawna:

My life is very simple. If I don’t have work I’m home spending time with myself and family. Other than that I’m in the Gym then off to the studio to write and record.

Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine that you may like to share? 5 must-do everyday stretches?

Ishawna:
Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ishawna:

I don’t follow a specific type of diet other than I just try cut out bread, rice, flour, sodas etc and try my best consume mainly protein, veggies, good fats and plenty of water. 

Namita Nayyar:

How do you cope with stress while traveling for performances?

Ishawna:

I enjoy traveling so I just make the best of it. I love traveling to new places. 

Namita Nayyar:

You have written songs for honest lyrics like in 2017 your controversial viral hit “Equal Rights (Explicit)” bluntly addressed one of Jamaica’s most taboo topics igniting a firestorm in the process. Tell us about one of the most memorable experiences that you may have had creating this song.

Ishawna:

When I was creating the song Equal Rights it was just fun. I knew that the Topic would cause Damage but I didn’t expect it to go as far as it did. It’s a topic I wanted to address for a long time so I did.

Namita Nayyar:

Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding female singers who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in this field?

Ishawna:

My advice to them would be to put God first, have faith and most of all be patient. Build your craft and work on being the best version of yourself. Also relationships are often times a huge distraction, stay focused.

I write songs based off my experiences as well as the experiences of other women. I try to be their voice, I represent for them. I sing about the things that they don’t get a chance to say or express. No topic is ever off limit. 

Namita Nayyar:

With over 734K followers on Instagram, how do you stay real for your audience?

Ishawna:

I just be myself 100%, ignore negativity and when I get overwhelmed I take a break.

Namita Nayyar:

What do you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?

Ishawna:

It’s great and especially because it highlights and supports women and that’s what I stand for.
