Izzie Merey: An Expert & Connoisseur of Classic Cars Reveals Her Exercise, Diet & Beauty Secrets

Izzie Merey

Isabelle “Izzie” Merey is an avid car enthusiast with a passion for classic automobiles. She parlayed her love for cars into a TV series sizzle reel, “Operation: Drive By”, a TV and web reality series. Izzie heads onto the highways of America, driving cross-country to destinations so unique that it merits an equally special classic car to make the road trip complete – a pristine cherry red 1973 Corvette Stingray named ‘Vanessa Darling’. Izzie and Vanessa were seen cruising together in the 82nd Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade this year.

Izzie isn’t just a driver behind the wheel, attending auto shows all over the world to see the latest trends and the most exotic cars. Heads turn weekly as she rolls in with her Stingray at Bob’s Big Boy Friday night car show in Los Angeles, where gear heads gather to share their passion for classic cars (though not JUNK) at the oldest Bob’s Big Boy in America.

Her first induction into the automobile world was through her father, learning to drive a stick shift at the age of 15. She would sit with him and watch the F-1 and Grand Prix together, fanaticizing about their dream cars together. She has since become a certified defensive driver, teaching others these useful skills. Her auto expertise led Izzie to work as a test and delivery driver for a Beverly Hills exotic car import firm.

Izzie explains her fascination and love of cars as, “…a way of life. They bring people together and signify adventure and new beginnings. It is a known fact that cars are the number one most mass-produced machines in the world, yet so many people develop such an emotional connection to them. They also stand for history and art. The way I really take in a car might be compared to the way an artist looks to their muse for inspiration. I aspire to find out about the story behind every car and its owner. This is why I particularly love classics.”

Born and raised on the island of Cyprus, Izzie and her two rescue dogs (Nola and Roxy) live in Southern California. She is expanding her skill set by starting pilot lessons for small single-engine planes in the coming new year. Izzie keeps herself physically active outdoors through hiking and horseback riding, as well as mentally fit by reading as often as possible. She works closely with charities such as OXFAM and UNICEF, looking into pairing up with more children’s organizations such as Make-A-Wish and Share for kids.

Izzie Merey is an expert and connoisseur of classic cars and TV star of the TV series “Operation: Drive By”. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President of Women Fitness.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Your love for automobile world came through your father, learning to drive stick shift at the age of 15. Now you have become an expert and connoisseur of classic cars. This unique expertise and profession requires a lot of hard labor, technical soundness and excellence in different faculties to finally succeed, how do you achieve that?

Ms. Izzie Merey: I achieve that probably because I am a hard worker and over-achiever. Motivated by my genuine passion for classic cars, I’ve been fortunate to learn so much just by spending as much time as possible in restoration shops and working closely with my own mechanic. The next step for me is actually building a classic from the ground up with my own hands. Right now I’m considering a 1937 Chevy Pick-Up.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us about your endeavor TV series “Operation: Drive By” a TV and web reality series?

Ms. Izzie Merey: The whole series has its backbone based on my fans. It is a classic car documentary which will bring what would otherwise be a typical car program to a whole new audience and demographic. The uniques aspect of my series is that there is a surprise twist which nobody will ever see coming. I’m very excited about the series and can’t wait to share my experiences with the world.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You do hiking and horseback riding to remain fit. What other exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you shall like to share?

Ms. Izzie Merey: I do! I also take spin cycle at my gym twice a week as it’s the best all around cardio workout there is, while focusing on the legs. I get to have fun, keep the weight off and keep my legs lean at the same time. So much fun!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Izzie Merey: I do, yes and it’s really quite simple. Breakfast is two hardboiled eggs, and a cup of Greek Yogurt, honey and fruit. Lunch is usually roast chicken or turkey with no additives, quinoa and tomato salad. For dinner I usually do something like brown rice pasta with arugula and light tomato sauce.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have glowing skin and gorgeous hairs. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hairs to make them look so stunning?

Ms. Izzie Merey: Thank you very much! I sleep with fresh lemon spritzed on my face for a natural peel and cover that up with Egyptian Magic lotion (which you can find in any WholeFoods store.) Then twice a year I go in to get my Derma Roller treatment on the face and neck at the renowned Beverly Hills clinic, AMA Skincare. For my hair, my trusted stylist Bryan Cummins keeps my conditioning treatments up to date while touching up my hair color and forcing me to do hair cuts to keep my hair healthy year round. Very important!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us your experience when you drove your pristine cherry red 1973 Corvette Stingray named ‘Vanessa Darling’ in the 82nd Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade this year ?

Ms. Izzie Merey: It was such a blast and very surreal driving Vanessa down the red carpet on Hollywood Boulevard. It was true Hollywood glam at its best and I got to drive with two of the cast members from the Disney Channel Show, Austin & Ally. What a proud moment being able to show off your car live on TV and in front of thousands of screaming fans!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You are a certified defensive driver. What role and expertise does this knowledge bestow on you and how you use this to empower and teach others about driving and automobile technicalities?

Ms. Izzie Merey: The interesting thing about driving defensively is that you get to understand and honor the rules of the road, which most drivers ignore. Therefore, you are always a few steps ahead of other drivers and can avoid accidents

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have been associated with specially OXFAM and UNICEF and a number of charities, which are all dear to your heart, tell us how you have been able to achieve and quench your thirst of giving back to the society through this endeavor of your?

Ms. Izzie Merey: Causes that I am involved with right now are natural disasters, the child sex trade and Sudan. So what happens is I keep a close watch on specific charities to see who is doing what to help. A lot of charities have yet to distribute the funds they raised to those who were promised aid and this is nothing new. So I do my research and ask a lot of questions then I set out to spread the word via my social media. By encouraging my fans and followers to donate money, my thirst of helping people around the world is partially quenched. The rest I do personally as true charity comes from the heart and does not need to be announced to anyone but yourself.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Every classic car has a story. Tell us about any experience about a car, which was different, unique, interesting or thrilling to know that you wish to share?

Ms. Izzie Merey: Yes it does, well said! One inspiring story I have been working on recently actually is about a broken father/son relationship. The father traveled across the country to find a classic corvette for his son who just finished serving in Iraq. Via the car, the two have bonded after several years lost between them. It’s a very emotional and unique story which I’m very proud to be bringing to my audience.
