Jennifer Jo Cobb is highly accomplished professional race car driver, NASCAR team owner, public speaker, entrepreneur and a corporate spokesperson. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Your love with racing cars began at the age of 8 years, which was the starting point that latter propelled your professional career to the height where you have been at the top of the world of professional car racing by women. Tell us something about this journey of success?

Ms. Jennifer Jo Cobb:

When I said I wanted to be a race car driver when I was 8 years old it seemed that nobody believed me. Reluctantly, my Dad helped me start racing cars at Lakeside Speedway at NASCAR’s grassroots level when I was 18. I dreamt of winning and when that happened I dreamt of racing in bigger and faster cars. Over 10 years later, I had the opportunity to race at the Kansas Speedway. It was a long journey to be able to race full-time in the top levels of NASCAR but I have learned a lot about racing, business and grown so much stronger as a person along the way.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have selected a sport which requires a lot of cohesiveness and absolute understanding between your team of technicians, your machine and you to finally succeed, how do you achieve that?

Ms. Jennifer Jo Cobb:

Communication is key. I have a great relationship with my crew chief, Steve Kuykendall and knowing that he believes in me is essential. I know that it is important for me to relate to him what my car or truck is doing so I have to have an awareness with what is going on in every part of the race track. It takes a lot of focus and mental clarity.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you may wish to share?

Ms. Jennifer Jo Cobb:

I love to lift free weights. I do reps to absolutely exertion and I think because I was a dancer and in gymnastics as a child, my muscles have great memory.I tend to get bored easily so I really mix up my workouts between cardio and strength classes, yoga, Pilates and some days I do 30 minutes cardio on the gym machines (usually treadmill or elliptical) and then 30 minutes of free weights.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Jennifer Jo Cobb:

I do not have a strict diet but I take things in moderation. I try to limit pasta to once per week and I try to eat fish at least once a week. I really limit sweets and I am not a big snacker as I would rather have small meals. I don’t think that what you eat gets you in trouble but what you do not eat. If I am eating enough fruits and vegetables then my body does not crave carbs and I tend to be overall healthier and clearer mentally. I will often blend spinach, water, banana, mixed berries and a splash of orange juice into a smoothie to get many nutrients at once.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have glowing skin and gorgeous hairs. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hairs to make them look so stunning?

Ms. Jennifer Jo Cobb:

Thank you! I have to be honest and admit that I do have hair extensions mixed in with my real hair. Drinking a lot of water, sunscreen on my face and working out are really great for my skin and hair. I go to Rajeunir Medical Spa a few times a year for a few injections to keep the wrinkles away and I like to look the best that I can at 40 years old. A lot of people don’t believe that I am almost 41 and that makes me very proud.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding professional car racing girls who all are your fans and shall like to know from you for their climb to ladder of success in field of car racing?

Ms. Jennifer Jo Cobb:

There will be several points where you will think about giving up. For a lot of people a professional racing career is just not meant to be because it really takes away from family life and other aspirations. It is hard to have balance because racing takes so much time and energy. But if she finds that it is really what she wants to do she must view the difficult times as necessary to strengthen. There were so many times I thought about giving up but after I pushed through I raised to another level. I rely on my faith in God to get me through, knowing that he can bring good through any bad situation.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

How did you feel before and after you became first female in NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series to achieve and become highest finishing female driver in the overall points for a season (2010) ?

Ms. Jennifer Jo Cobb:

It was an incredible accomplishment. I am amazed that the record still stands and it feels nice to want to beat myself to have an even better finish!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Your are a professional race car driver, NASCAR team owner, public speaker, entrepreneur and a corporate spokesperson. How you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?

Ms. Jennifer Jo Cobb:

With God, all things are possible. He places such wonderful people in my life who help me get through all of the responsibilities and challenges and most of these people are volunteers!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?

Ms. Jennifer Jo Cobb:

A healthy and active lifestyle is the key for success and happiness. It is truly amazing how being physically fit affects your mental state and once you believe you can achieve something – with enough work and determination – you will accomplish things you once never thought possible.

Somewhere along my journey I realized that this was not “all about me” and I wanted to take the platform that I had being unique in the world of NASCAR and deflect the glory to other worthy women so I started an organization called Driven2Honor (www.Driven2Honor.org) to honor female military members. I have met so many wonderful and strong women since the program began and I hope to continue to honor and empower these wonderful women.
