Lets read through Jennifer Van Barneveld-Pe’s spectacular journey in her exclusive interview with Namita Nayyar, President Women Fitness.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You are a Fitness Expert, Nutritionist, Health/Wellness Writer, Diet Coach, Contest Prep Specialist, Entrepreneur, and Mommy Blogger. Walk us through this spectacular journey and tell us how it all began?

Ms. Jennifer Van Barneveld-Pe:

My fitness journey actually began at a very early age when I became a Certified Personal Trainer at the age of 18 working Part-Time at a gym growing a client base while I went to University. One-on-One Training gave me such a solid foundation on how to work with clients and also very early teaching on how to be an Entrepreneur. Of course I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the amazing Trainers I worked with at the time that helped mentor a little 18-year old that had yet to move out of her parents home and see the world because if it wasn’t for their generous teachings of sharing their wisdom (and their patience with me Hahaha!), I would not have been able become the Trainer that I am today.

Of course after university I landed a dream job by working at one of the world’s biggest Sports Supplement and Weight Loss company (at the time) as a Customer Service Representative which gave me my formal first introduction into the Fitness Industry.

This role eventually evolved to assisting the Marketing Department with Before and After Transformation campaigns for our weight loss products which eventually paved the way to my specialty as a Transformation Consultant for various companies eventually to working for myself with my own clients.

I am so blessed for the amazing experience I had in the fitness industry and also forever grateful to the many people that I was able to work with sharing their wisdom and experience. Without them, I would definitely not be where I am today.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Introduce us to a day in your life, preparing for the Championships.

Ms. Jennifer Van Barneveld-Pe:

My day begins slightly before sunrise to get a head start ahead of my 2-Year Old Son – it’s Mommy time for a few hours before my son’s Nanny arrives before I begin my work day.

From there it is Email and Social Media Marketing sharing Exercise and Nutrition information along with data analytics followed by writing a daily Client Success Story.

After 2 hours of marketing, I spend the rest of my work day on Client Responses and Programming.

I’m also fortunate enough to be able to work from home so get plenty of Mommy Time in-between my work day too which is why I love the ability to work from home with today’s technology and speed of exchanging information.

I always try to fit in a workout. I either go to the gym for an hour and a half or I head outside for a walk or some HIIT.

After my workout, I’m usually back at my desk by 2:30 where I finish up the next days marketing. By 4:30pm I start making dinner for my family, it usually consists of BBQ chicken, steak or baked fish, I also love to make spaghetti or tacos as they are a big hit in my household.

By 6pm, I start bedtime routine with my son and he’s usually sleeping by 7pm.

I sometimes have to finish a little extra work from 7-8pm but I usually like to shut down around 8pm and spend quality time with my husband.

I’m always in bed and usually sleeping by 10:30pm and I usually love to read before bed. Right now I’m reading – The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck …which is quite interesting.

My day-to-day during the week is usually the same. I like order and I feel like my son does better with it too. Weekends are usually packed with fun family activities and visiting a lot of extended family. No order, just fun and quality time.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine that you may like to share?

Ms. Jennifer Van Barneveld-Pe:

My exercise regimen consists primarily of Weight Lifting and explosive Kettlebell Work.

Day 1 – Heavy Lower Body Day – Hip Thrusts, Squats, Bulgarian Split Squats, walking lunges followed by Kettlebell Tabata – KB Swings 30 seconds, KB Goblet Squat 30 seconds. Repeat 6-8 times

Day 2 – Upper Body – Shoulder Press, Lat Pulldons or Pull-ups, Rows, Face Pulls, Push-ups. Followed by Tabata Battle Ropes – 30 seconds on, 20 seconds rest. Repeat 8 times

Day 3 – I walk with my son (in stroller) – 45 minutes to 1 hour

Day 4 – Kettlebell Full Body Circuit a. KB Swings b. KB Snatches. c. KB Turkish Get-Up d. KB Presses e. KB Stif-Leg Deadlifts f. Goblet squat to Press. Perform 20 reps of each. AMRAP – As many rounds as possible in 25 minutes.

Day 5 – I walk with my son (in stroller) – 45 minutes to 1 hour

Day 6 & 7 usually fall on the weekends. I like to keep my weekends open with my son but if I can squeeze in a gym date with my hubby I’ll either chose an upper body split or lower body split, whatever is less sore.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Jennifer Van Barneveld-Pe:

There is no special diet or specific menu that I adhere to.

But, as a Nutritionist, I stick primarily to whole foods and an abundance of fruits and vegetables for the majority of the week.

I’m well aware of my Protein requirements and fill in the rest of my daily calories with carbohydrates and dietary fats that I enjoy often indulging with my husband but staying within my calorie ranges through responsible portions.

This is a very similar approach I take with my clients encouraging them to move away from behaviors that no longer add value to their health and to embrace habits that are more in line with their fitness goals.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Share with us your haircare and skincare routine?

Ms. Jennifer Van Barneveld-Pe:

I used to use a lot of high end skincare products but from some recent research I did, I decided to ditch them because of all the chemicals and parabens used to preserve the products. So I only use organic skincare lines now.

I really love Sukin. Great quality and all the products are reasonably priced. Win win!

1. Wash my face morning and evening with Sukin Foaming Facial Cleanser
2. Exfoliate 1-2 times per week with Sukin Revitalizing Facial Scrub
3. Vitamin C serum daily – right now I’m using vitamin C from the Body Shop
4. Sun Kiss SPF 50 – Day
5. Sukin night cream – Night

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

From where did the idea of launching your own brand stem up?

Ms. Jennifer Van Barneveld-Pe:

What a great question! As a Transformation Consultant I was working with so many clients but the rights to their images and testimonials were owned by the companies that were contracting me so, over time, I really wanted to showcase the work I do with my clients because of the relationships we were forming as I helped them with their Fitness Goals.

Because of the years I spent in photo and television studios capturing Before and After Stories, my husband and I decided to invest in our own camera equipment and start building my own client base – this opened up so much freedom for me in terms of how I showcase my clients and the way I got to share their fitness journey through Social Media.

I pride myself on putting together high quality images of my clients helping them unleash their inner Fitness Model at their photo shoots. To work with a client formerly frustrated with their weight loss initiatives and to watch them come out of their shell and be so proud of their body and new lifestyle is such a delightful feeling as a Coach.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

So how has your journey been so far? What tips would you like to give to fitness trainers who wish to launch their own business?

Ms. Jennifer Van Barneveld-Pe:

The best advice I can give to a budding fitness professional is to figure out what makes you unique as an individual – and to never forget that. There are way too many imitators and not enough originators out there because no matter how “in shape” you might be, it’s unlikely that alone will ever be enough to influence people. Make no mistake having sharp abs and shapely gluten are great and all, but that certainly doesn’t tell the whole story about an individual.

As a fitness professional, I think it’s important to let others know that there is struggle in success, and that it takes true courage to share vulnerability with others.

Also, don’t wait! I remember being so nervous to start my own thing. If you have information you know will better someones life, take action and make things happen.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Who has been your greatest influence and motivator in your success in your life?

Ms. Jennifer Van Barneveld-Pe:

My husband – Vince Pe. He has always believed in me from day 1 even when I didn’t believe in myself. He thinks BIG which I always had a problem doing and sometimes still do, he pushes me to think outside the box and take chances I wouldn’t normally take which is what makes us such a great team.

He also sacrificed a lot in his own life to help me get my business and vision off the ground but it has paid off because now we work so closely together. He’s my behind the scenes with marketing strategies and the tech side of things…which is not my forte.

Besides my hubby, I would say Jillian Michaels. She is such a STRONG woman who has definitely made her mark in the Fitness Industry and (in my opinion) is currently the voice of Women’s Fitness. She’s not afraid of telling people what they need to hear, she’s direct and to the point. I really admire everything she’s accomplished in her career both as a Fitness Professional and Business woman…and I know there’s definitely more to come.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Tell us about your program that focuses on Fat Loss.

Ms. Jennifer Van Barneveld-Pe:

My coaching philosophy has always been to enjoy food flexibility, lift weights to shape the body and avoiding long boring cardio sessions.

Here are my JVB Methods:

I also have a Mom Only program called LoseTheBabyWeight.com – this is an 8 week program designed for moms who want to lose the baby weight and feel confident and energized for themselves and their expanded family. I use the same coaching philosophies with Mom Life in mind.

Throughout the last 10 years of helping women I’ve also designed some “Done For You” fat loss programs and ebook products with you can find here – https://www.coachjvb.com/programs/

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Share with us some of your Prenatal and Postnatal Exercise Tips for new mothers.

Ms. Jennifer Van Barneveld-Pe:

All new moms should focus on retraining their core first and foremost. I get all my New Mom clients to perform a series of Diastasic Recti/core exercise to help with the ab separation caused by pregnancy. A lot of moms don’t know about this issue and when they notice that their tummy isn’t responding and is still very descended despite losing the baby weight they become frustrated and start doing tons of crunches, sit-ups and planks…which should completely be avoided at all costs.

Once Mom has rebuilt strength in her core and has the go-a-head from the Doctor we can move onto body weight exercise and soon after resistance training.

When I design a program for a new mom I focus on primary functional movements:

1. Squat variations
2. Deadlifting variations
3. Over head presses
4. Rows
5. Lat Pull downs
6. Hip thrusts/glute bridges
7. Core work (Diastasic Recti Specific Exercises)

I also suggest Mamas get out and enjoy the fresh air and quality active time with their babes. Go for a walk or hike, whatever they feel they can handle with their child or children.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

With a massive following who look upto you and follow you, how does it feel that you are able to influence and inspire the healthy lifestyle of so many individuals?

Ms. Jennifer Van Barneveld-Pe:

It feels absolutely incredible.

When I started coachjvb.com I had a vision where women exude confidence with their bodies, are passionate and relentless about achieving more out of their life and are informed and fearless about their food choices. When I became a mom I added to this vision – I wanted to help moms learn to put their health and happiness first again and teach them that it’s not selfish to do so.

My motto is a happy and strong mom, equals a happy and strong family.

When I see my clients grasp a hold of these life changes and get in control of their lives, their bodies and their own happiness, I am beyond ecstatic for them. I often cry reading their testimonials…that’s the emotional Mama-Bear in me haha!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What do you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for our visitors?

Ms. Jennifer Van Barneveld-Pe:

I feel Womenfitness.net is an incredible website and a big resource for women’s health and wellness. The content is always fresh and interesting and there’s such a wide variety of information. You could spend hours on the site, I have to give myself a time limit or I would never get any work done haha. If you’re not subscribed I suggest you do so.

I’m honored to have been interviewed. Thank you 🙂
