Katherine Jenkins is highly accomplished mezzo-soprano artist and popular classical-crossover singer, she is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You are a mezzo-soprano artist and popular classical-crossover singer, who performs across a spectrum of operatic arias, popular songs, musical theater and hymns. It is unknown in the history of classical music to become so popular that you sold more than seven million albums. What factors you consider are responsible for your such a spectacular success?

Ms. Katherine Jenkins:

That’s always such a hard question! I come from a very normal background & I discovered classical music through my love of singing & church music. I wanted to show people that opera was not an elitist art form which people sometimes feel excluded from but a music form for everyone. I hope that people can see how much I love what I do also.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You came to wide public attention in 2003 when you sang at Westminster Cathedral in honor of Pope John Paul II’s silver jubilee and this propelled your singing career to the height where you have been at the top of the world as a singer. Tell us something about this professional journey in the world of music?

Ms. Katherine Jenkins:

My journey in the professional world of singing has been a very steep learning curve. Whilst I studied at the Royal Academy of Music, they prepare you for the performance side, not necessarily for navigating your way through the business side of things. I got my record deal at the age of 22 so have had to learn as I go. 10 years on, I’m happy to have been involved in all my musical & career decisions.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

How did your react when your fifth album, Rejoice that was released on 19th November 2007 entered the pop album charts at number three, beating the Spice Girls and Girls Aloud ?

Ms. Katherine Jenkins:

10 years ago, the term classical crossover didn’t really exist. No one could have imagined how things could change and how popular this music could become with a little image update. To see my album up in the pop charts was unbelievable to me & I felt incredibly blessed.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Your love and commitment to the British Forces Foundation is well known, newspapers has coined your name as ” Forces Sweetheart”. Tell us about this passion of yours?

Ms. Katherine Jenkins:

I have huge admiration for the men & women who risk their lives, day after day, month after month, away from the families, in not the best of surroundings in order to give us our freedom. As a trustee of the British forces foundation, I go out to places like Iraq & Afghanistan to boost morale through shows aimed to send a message of thanks from home. It’s become a real passion and I will continue to do it for as long as they want me to.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You are leading women classical-crossover singer, model, writer, TV star and a dancer. How you are able to manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional, multi-faceted lifestyle?

Ms. Katherine Jenkins:

I guess it’s always been about challenging myself and taking myself out of my comfort zone. For example, I really didn’t consider myself to be a dancer but after 3 months of 12 hour a day training sessions on Dancing with the Stars, I can now add that to my resume!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Tell us about your autobiography “Time to Say Hello”?

Ms. Katherine Jenkins:

I wrote this when I was 27 and it is very much just the first installment. I wanted to share certain things with my fans like how I got my break in to the music business and going through losing my father to cancer at a young age.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

In 2010, the Sunday Times Rich List placed you at the joint 11th in the Top 20 Young Millionaires list. How you remain so humble and lovable?

Success has not made you the least arrogant and proud which is mostly with all the celebrity stars?

Ms. Katherine Jenkins:

Whilst I know I am very lucky to have things like a nice house, car etc, I honestly do this because I love my job so much. That is what makes me happiest.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit. Specially with regard to your throat?

Ms. Katherine Jenkins:

Diary products are very bad for the voice so I don’t have those on days when I am singing. Alcohol is also not good so I avoid that for a week prior to any performance. Apart from that it’s about being as fit and strong as possible so I eat lots of fish, fresh fruit & veg & drink at least 2 litres of water a day.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You with Darcey Bussell appeared in a stage song-and-dance production, entitled Viva la Diva, You learned to tap dance, spending eight hours a week learning the choreography and running three miles a day to get fit. What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you may wish to share?

Ms. Katherine Jenkins:

I separate my workouts into cardio & strength. On a cardio day, I either run or take a class like Barry’s Bootcamp or Soul Cycle. On a strength day, I work at home with my trainer Mel Deane using weights, TRX, bands etc.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have glowing skin and gorgeous hairs. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hairs to make them look so stunning?

Ms. Katherine Jenkins:

Thank you! My dad always told me to look after my skin. I have an amazing skin care specialist in London called Sarah Chapman. Her treatments are incredible plus I love her product range. I also love the triple oxygen facials at bliss. My hair gets styled a lot so it’s important to try my best to look after it… I use Shu umera hair masks & take Viviscal supplements daily.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have been appointed as Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) this year for services to music and for charitable services. What responsibilities you feel on this honor being bestowed on you?

Ms. Katherine Jenkins:

It’s something I never thought would happen, especially at 33 years! I feel so incredibly proud and humbled to have received this award. I was able to take my mum & sister with me to collect it at Buckingham palace… It was a very emotional day.
