Check out as Kayden Kross reveals her fitness tips and spills her beauty secrets, in a candid interview with Namita Nayyar, President Women Fitness.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You started out in the adult entertainment industry at the age of 18, eventually making a leap into performing in explicit movies by signing an exclusive contract with a top adult company Vivid in November, 2006. You have won multiple awards for your adult film work. Tell us about this incredible journey and how it all began?

Ms. Kayden Kross: Like most things, it was incremental. I began working in a strip club at 18 for reasons that made a lot of sense to me at the time, and then a couple of years later an agent approached me for some nude modeling. From there it wasn’t long before the adult contract offers were on the table. At the time I don’t think I realized that it was such a controversial career choice. I knew what I wanted out of the industry though, and I knew that the more conventional options didn’t interest me. That hasn’t changed.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You were born and raised in Sacramento, California. Tell us about your life as a child, growing up in California?

Ms. Kayden Kross: There wasn’t anything particularly telling about my childhood. I was raised in a pretty normal way, mostly in the country just outside of Sacramento. At one point I had a pet goat and a horse. Our family would take camping trips and Thanksgivings and Christmases were always large gatherings. I was quiet and good in school. I think the thing that maybe stood out in my character back then and remains constant today is that I didn’t see “No” as an invitation to quit trying. It was just a signal to go back to the drawing board and revise the question or the method until I got to “Yes”. It was not my mother’s favorite quality of mine.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine?

Ms. Kayden Kross: I have to switch it up or I get bored. I’ve always ridden horses, which has been a great core and balance exercise (and amazing for the butt and inner thighs), but I didn’t start exercising for the sake of fitness until I signed with Vivid. At first I just did some of the hamster wheel stuff—ellipticals and treadmills and such—and then I realized it wasn’t sustainable for me and started working with a trainer. I had one very good trainer who I worked with for a few years and I like to think that a lot of the physique I have today is just muscle memory from the time he trained me. I was always very displeased with my butt and very pleased with my stomach, so we worked on really building up the definition in my waist with some creative sit ups that today still shock me.

After a while I burnt out on the trainer routine and took up Bikram Yoga, which I’ve now been practicing for more than 6 years. Bikram has been amazing for my butt, though being a mother now has been terrible for my regularity with the practice. My new exercise is chasing a toddler around, with a random Bikram class thrown in for color.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Kayden Kross: Yes and no. I feel like I’ve been trying to diet for twelve years now. After some extreme trial and error I’ve landed here: avoid sugars that don’t come from fruit as best you can. Avoid high fructose corn syrups at all costs. Fit plant based foods into whatever you can. Eat slowly. I try to eat foods with fewer than five ingredients, or at least packed with ingredients that come from things I can name, like the ocean, or a chicken, etc. But it’s not just about naming the things you will and won’t eat and then sticking to it religiously.

There is a psychological component that affects one’s ability to have that discipline in the first place. I make the best choices with what I eat when I am getting enough regular sleep and I am at peace with myself and with my life. Where I am today is probably the happiest I have ever been and it’s not surprising that I find it easier to make healthy food choices daily.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what do you do to your hair to make them look so stunning?

Ms. Kayden Kross: My hair finally got to the place I wanted it when I was pregnant. Of course pregnancy helped it grow, but what’s helped it stay this way is I stopped washing it so frequently and rarely put heat on it. I used to wash and dry it nearly every day and was often in the make up chair, which was hell on my hair. I could never grow it out back then because it was always being dried out and broken off with all of the styling. Now I wash it twice a week, then pull it into a French braid while it’s still wet. Once it’s dry I can let it down or pull it back into a loose ponytail, etc.

It’s been sort of the same education with regards to my skin. I wear very little, if any, make up these days, and try to mess with my skin as little as possible. One thing that took me forever to realize is that hydration comes from the inside out. Of course I use moisturizer as part of a regular routine, but my skin retains moisture best when I consume less sugar and eat more vegetables, and, of course, drink plenty of water.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Share with us your Top 5 Fitness Tips to stay in shape?

Ms. Kayden Kross: Top 5 Fitness Tips:

  1. Get enough sleep.
  2. Find a regular time that you can commit to each day for exercise so it becomes a part of your daily routine and fits into a part of the day where you’re not feeling fatigued.
  3. Limit the intake of sugars that aren’t naturally found in fruit
  4. Find a sport or routine that engages and excites you
  5. Don’t try to find your energy in extra coffee or diet pills, etc. Your body will only end up craving more food to compensate.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us about your Top 3 Fashion Absolute Must-Haves?

Ms. Kayden Kross: I’m not much into fashion, but I’ll tell you what I invariably wear every day.

  1. Lululemon black crop pants
  2. Hanky panky low rise thong
  3. Monochromatic racerback sports bra

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Share with us your experience as a writer for publications such as Complex magazine, XBIZ magazine, and a blog for xcritic.com ?

Ms. Kayden Kross: My experience is mostly that I’m a much better writer without a deadline. That said, I adore writing regularly for publications. These days I have an advice column for NYLON and try to keep up with turning in monthly articles for IB Times. I hope to spend more and more of my time writing as time goes on.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have won several awards for your work in adult fare like the Hot d’Or for Best American Starlet in 2009, both a Venus Award for Best Actress International and an Erotixxx Award for Best U.S. Actress in 2010, and many others. How did you feel after being awarded these accolades?

Ms. Kayden Kross: It’s of course deeply flattering. I think that’s one of the things I miss now that I’m not performing regularly. There was a lot of excitement in making big budget films and attending the awards shows and doing the press around the projects. It felt like a very shiny time in my life.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us about your experience of working in the film Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance as Milena/Jennifer and later in Enter the Samurai as yourself which is a documentary film that follows the making of the feature film Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance ?

Ms. Kayden Kross: That was a hell of a shoot. It was one of those movies that I constantly thought was not going to be made, and then by the skin of its teeth it was made. It was fun to make something that made so much fun of itself. There’s no pressure in performing in a sequel to a movie that is famous for being terrible.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?

Ms. Kayden Kross: Fitness is something you can never stop working at if you hope to achieve or sustain it, but making small changes in habit made to a daily routine is the difference between reaching a goal and not. It’s a lifestyle, not a miracle potion. Best of luck to everyone who is trying for it!
