Luci Romberg, Professional Free-running Athlete & Award-winning Stuntwoman, walks us through her incredible professional journey in an exclusive interview with Namita Nayyar, President Women Fitness.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You were a national champion gymnast and an all-conference soccer player in college. As a Professional Stuntwoman, you have appeared in numerous films, TV shows, commercials, and freerunning competitions. You have also won a Taurus World Stunt Award for Best Overall Stunt By a Stuntwoman in 2014. Tell us about this spectacular journey and how it all began?

Ms. Luci Romberg:

Both of my parents were exceptional athletes. They both played tennis in college. I grew up playing every sport I could possibly fit into my schedule. My dream was to always do two sports in college and when I got the opportunity to do soccer and gymnastics (division II National gymnastics All-Around champion -2003) I was so excited!! When I graduated from college, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my degree so a good friend of mine, Tascha Hopkins told me about stunts. I had no idea what it entailed or how to make it happen but I grew the courage and moved to LA to pursue this crazy dream. To break into stunts is a long, frustrating process that requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and patience! But overtime I was able to figure out how to get work and now I am so fortunate to be able to be doing what I love!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine?

Ms. Luci Romberg:

To be honest I just do a lot of freerunning and parkour. When I’m not freerunning, I do a lot of circuit, interval training. The stronger you are in this business the less likely you are to be injured.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Luci Romberg:

It took me a long time to realize but diet is so important! Your body truly is your temple and whatever you put into it, you’ll get out of it. For the last 3 years I’ve been a vegetarian. I know not eating meat is not for everyone but for me, it helps me to eat more fruits and vegetables, I feel cleaner and I’m not contributing to killing animals. I’m able to get enough protein and I’ve never felt so strong and fit in my life!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Performing stunts requires a lot of outdoor training and activity. Share with us your skincare and haircare routine that you follow to cope up with the strenuous training?

Ms. Luci Romberg:

I’m definitely a tomboy and don’t put much thought or attention into my hair and skin care. I do my best to stay out of the sun and wear sunscreen but other than that I don’t put much thought to it.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have worked in many movies like Ghostbusters reboot, Spy, Zombieland, Transformers 4, The Conjuring, and Indiana Jones 4, to name a few. Share with us your experience of working in these movies?

Ms. Luci Romberg:

Getting to work in the film industry in general is such a crazy realization. Growing up on a small farm in Colorado I never dreamt I’d be working in film and TV. Every day I’m at work I’m truly blessed and am so fortunate to get to do what I do! It took a lot of hard work, dedication, patience and sacrifice to get where I am and I am so grateful for it! I love working on movies. Being a part of the creative process for the action is so much fun! A lot of the time the stunt team is literally deciding the direction of the action.

Ms. Luci Romberg:

My advice to people is to never give up!! If you have a dream or goal set your sights high and don’t stop until you reach it! It takes a lot of hard work and dedication but if it was easy everyone would do it. I truly believe that if you set your mind to something you can accomplish anything!!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

How did you feel before and after winning a Taurus World Stunt Award for Best Overall Stunt By a Stuntwoman for Identity Thief?

Ms. Luci Romberg:

It’s a very special and cool thing to be recognized by your peers. There are so many amazing, talented, hard-working stunt people in the business and I’m so honored to have received  the Taurus Award.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Who has been your greatest influence and motivator in your success in the field of your career?

Ms. Luci Romberg:

It’s very hard to say who has been the greatest influence because I’ve had so many amazing mentors. I’m so fortunate and grateful to have had the support and guidance early on in my career. When you don’t understand the business its easy to make mistakes but I had so many positive influences in my life and I’m so grateful to have been pointed in the right direction.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You are a world leading stuntwoman, freerunner, champion gymnast and martial artist. How do you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?

Ms. Luci Romberg:

I just do what I love and what inspires me. I surround myself with positive, motivated, like minded people and they push me to be better than I was. I simply follow my heart, train hard, and do what I’m passionate about.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have appeared on the Japanese TV show and athletic competition Sasuke twice, where you represented the U.S. and became the first woman to clear the Jumping Spider. Share with us your experience on the show?

Ms. Luci Romberg:

It was truly one of the most memorable experiences of my life!! I’m so proud and grateful to have had the opportunity to compete in Japan. Japan is one of my favorite countries and to get the opportunity to compete on Ninja Warrior there once, much less twice was more than I could have ever imagined!!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have also appeared and performed on numerous TV shows including NCIS, Criminal Minds, Suburgatory, True Blood, Monk, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Raising Hope. Tell us about the most memorable moment that you’ve had across all these shows?

Ms. Luci Romberg:

I have had so many amazing, incredible and memorable jobs but I have to say, getting to hang from a helicopter on Spy doubling Melissa McCarthy was probably the most fun thing I’ll ever get to do in my life!!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What do you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?

Ms. Luci Romberg:

Your body is a temple. Treat it that way. Exercise by doing something you enjoy and put things in your body that are organic and come from the earth. If we don’t have our health, we don’t have much so we might as well eat healthy and give ourselves the best chance possible.
