Natasha Blasick: Exceptionally Talented Actress Reveals Her Workout, Diet & Beauty Secrets

Natasha Blasick

Natasha Blasick was born in the city of Odessa, Ukraine on the Black Sea. Her first language is Russian. She grew up in a Soviet style apartment that housed two families. She made her debut as a lead actress in the film Death of Evil (2009). She is the oldest daughter of Sergei and Ludmilla and has a younger sister, Marina. Natasha is the first member of her family to pursue a career in acting.

Life in Ukraine saw Natasha wearing homemade clothes and attending Young Pioneers of the Soviet Union camp. Interested in studying English from the age of six Natasha waited many winter hours for the most affordable public transportation to ferry her to and from her language classes. At the age of 14 she and her father, Sergei, were visited by a UFO.

Natasha studied dance, acted in many plays and competed in several beauty contests. Eventually earning a masters degree in marketing Natasha bid farewell to family and Odessa on a voyage of love, to marry her American husband Martin Blasick.

Natasha immediately embraced both Los Angeles and the craft of acting where she studied technique with several coaches, melding the training into her own acting style. Her leading role in Notes from the New World (2010), based on Dostoevsky’s Notes From The Underground screened in festivals across Europe. In The Black Russian (2012) Natasha traveled to India to shoot the title role of the multi-layered Francesca, a Russian ex-patriot caught up in a deadly game of love. Mockbuster Paranoid Activity 2 (2011) starred Natasha in a battle against an Alaskan poltergeist.

She was the swimsuit winner in the Mrs. World contest and appeared as Sasha the secret agent on “Days of Our Lives” (1965). She also appeared in Meet the Spartans (2008) and (as herself) in “Battle of the Bods” (2008). She had the chance show her comedic talents doings sketches for a season of Spike TV’s “MDN” (2004) and on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” (2003).

Natasha co-produced Death of Evil (2009) and Vampiro (2009). In 2012 Natasha released Live In Your World, an EP of her own brand of pop-electronica music. She play bass guitar in the pop duo Snowflakes and is endorsed by Daisy Rock Guitars.

Natasha Blasick is an exceptionally talented actress. She has been the swimsuit winner in the 2003 Mrs. World pageant. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar, President Women Fitness.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You were interested in studying English from the age of six years and studied dance, acted in many plays and competed in several beauty contests and later began to pursue acting. You made your debut as a lead actress in the film Death of Evil (2009). You reached the pinnacle of success when you were in the lead role in Paranoid Activity 2 (2011) battling against an Alaskan poltergeist. Tell us about your journey that took you to where you are now in the world of acting?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: The first time I was ever in a play I felt the magic of transformation, that is, qualities I was too shy to show in regular life I was able to access onstage. I must have been six or seven years old. I played the part of a school principle. A boy in the play was very intimidating to me. In my role I was supposed to be stern with him. Onstage I was able to look him in the eye and tell him, his character, what to do. I had thought since I was a shy person I didn’t have those powerful qualities. But, I was able to access them. I felt the power of my character. It was around that time I felt a strong connection with an audience as well.

Studying and performing dance and participating in pageants was something I really loved. But I never considered it as something I might really pursue. As much as I loved it there was no vision of that. I went on to get a Masters Degree in International Economy. I felt very fortunate to have studied something I liked. I choose that degree very carefully to be useful. Language was my first love. I had been studying English since I was a child. I just really liked it. And I though it would be helpful in economics.

After moving to Los Angeles. I started doing modeling and acting. I realized there was a possibility of doing that for a living. All the love I’d felt for it as a child came back to me. It really struck me how many artists in Los Angeles have a dream and really love what they do even when they aren’t rich and famous. It was fascinating to me. I didn’t have a shiny dream like that when I got my degree. Going into the arts has been an unexpected and meaningful journey.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have selected a profession of being an actress in films that requires a lot of hard labor, technical soundness and excellence in different faculties to finally succeed, how do you achieve that?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: What can I say? It’s tough but it’s also rewarding doing what I love and trusting that I’m on the right path. Besides working on my craft it’s very important to keep healthy both mentally and physically. Sleep is powerful in staying healthy and focused. Patience is a real virtue for actors. There’s a balance of being fully vested in the moment and then flexible enough to let it go at any time. Things unfold the way there are going to unfold and you have to trust that the best is going to happen. So many things aren’t up to me. I think the secret it to be grateful for the good things at any point in what we are doing.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You are a leading actress, singer, producer, model and bass guitarist. How do you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: I show up. I’m not sure if I am the greatest time manager. In fact I’m pretty sure I’m not. But I do show up prepared. To hear the question it sounds diverse.

But it doesn’t feel that way at all. It’s like different walls of the same building.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What exercises comprise your fitness regimen or workout routine you shall like to share?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: I really enjoy exercising. It’s a chance not only to work on my physical body but also my emotional self. I do yoga. I enjoy hiking because it’s social. Most recently I’ve been doing Tracy Anderson’s routines at home. I’ve also enjoyed kickboxing. I vary exercise routines all the time. I will get bored if it’s the same thing all the time. I’ll try to push myself even when I don’t feel like doing it. There are problem areas I want to improve. And it’s like a type of meditation to go through a whole class. One of my little secrets is to do routines I discover on YouTube. I’ll do a whole program along with the laptop and a yoga mat in my living room. I really love it. One of my favorites is Pavla. Her YouTube channel is called Pavla Perfectleanbody. I’ll like her because I think she understands what is right for a woman’s body. She says ‘You’re going to get sweat and lose fat”. It makes me happy.

I’m lucky to have William “Mayhem” Romeo of American Gladiator fame as a friend. He is so positive it’s truly infectious and inspiring. He shows me things about kickboxing and constantly encourages me to be my best. He’s putting together his own fitness routine called Funk-NFitness. I’m sure it will be as amazing as he is.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: The way I was raised was to eat healthy, low fat foods including lots of greens and vegetables. For that I’m lucky. Something that helped a lot, and this happened fairly recently, was getting the Nutri Bullet. Right after I started making juices I started get more compliments on my skin. I never had a juicer before. But this one is so easy to use and clean.

Having these juices everyday has reduced my cravings for the worst sweets. Plus I feel like I’m doing something good for my body. I want to surround my body with foods that are good neighbors to the palace of my body. I don’t wonder now if I’m getting enough greens and fruits. Plus it encourages me to eat healthy the rest of the time. But by making juices, even if I have pizza now and then, I don’t feel I’ve lost touch with health. Also, I don’t feel guilty if I eat a dessert that I really love. But if I don’t love a dessert so much, I feel really guilty about eating it. It’s not worth the calories. Also I try to reduce carbs at night. It really seems to help keep my weight steady.

It’s been a process for me to find what works. I used to skip meals thinking I was reducing calories. But now I eat at least ever four hours. It keeps me balanced and not so moody. It’s been a big, powerful change for me.

I just wrapped a movie that has a fitness related theme. It’s called The Martial Arts Kid. It was amazing and inspiring to be surrounded by a great number of martial arts champions and legends. It’s a positive story about values including fitness.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hair to make it look so stunning?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: Thank you so much, first of all. Taking care of my skin is something I really enjoy. It’s the biggest organ in our body and it would be really disrespectful not to take care of it. And I just love creams. Clean eating and juices are a big part of it, too. I have regimes for night and day. No matter how much time I do or don’t have, I always put on sunscreen. It’s a huge part of taking care of skin. I drink water because we need to be hydrated. I love masks. I grew up thinking about skin. My mother and sister and I would have spa days at home where we would squish fruits on ourselves. We enjoyed it. I still love it. So it’s normal for me, like brushing teeth. Also, the steps are fun. I exfoliate, hydrate and protect. I read about creams before buying. I believe that if I truly believe in a product it will work. I really need to love my cream to have a good relationship with it. I also take Biosil for hair and nails.

As for my hair, my hair is quite fine and frizzy naturally which can be quite frustrating. It’s dry on the ends. I’ll give my hair a break from processing now and then because I think it needs it sometimes. But those are not my favorite hair days. I’m excited to try a flat iron I just got. My hairdresser recommended it. I’m afraid I’ve burned my hair too much with my curling iron. My hair is an ongoing experiment and challenge. I’ve had some amazing hairdressers work on me for shoots, and they can do such amazing things with what looks like very little effort. I am in awe their talent. Hair is not my strongest area. Or at least that’s how I feel about it. Lately I’ve been putting warm coconut oil on my ends and working it about half way up the length of the hair to keep it healthy.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Advice and motivational words for our inspiring and budding women actresses who all are your fans, what should they do for their climb to the ladder of success in field of acting?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: Be authentic. Be passionate about it. Believe in yourself. I have to remind myself of these things all the time. Make sure it’s what you really want to do. There are difficult times. The acting part is wonderful. I love it. It’s amazing, But there can be some rough steps along the way. Trust yourself. If something doesn’t feel right, it most likely isn’t. Work hard. Keep learning. Surround yourself with good people. Surround yourself with people that inspire you. Bring your best. Whether it’s a big project or a little one give it 110% effort.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us about the experience of working in the leading role in “Notes from the New World (2010)”, based on Dostoevsky’s Notes From The Underground?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: First of all, being on the set of any movie is a gift for which I’m grateful. And this script gave me the chance to work on material based upon some of the world’s best literature. I really loved the idea of taking characters created in an earlier time and putting them into today’s world. I read a lot of classic literature to prepare. I spoke four languages in the film. It was a low budget production. And, what impressed me most was how even under some difficult conditions that both cast and crew forged ahead to make it the very best they could. People really do want to bring their best to every project. That movie has had a pretty good run winning awards at European film festivals. I still haven’t seen the finished movie, but really want to.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You were the swimsuit winner in the 2003 Mrs. World pageant. Tell us about this experience of yours?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: I loved it! It’s one my most memorable experiences. It really pushed me out of my shell and opened up the world to me. I do have my insecurities. And I was insecure about expressing myself in English, which is not my native language. I was shy to talk. Meeting all the other contestants from all over the world was wonderful because I could see how great they were, shining through no matter what their native languages were or how they might have been feeling. It really helped me to open up. It was the first time I met so many people from all over the world all in one place. It was very inspiring.

There was a part of me that didn’t feel there was any point for me to even go because of all the beautiful and talented ladies taking part. When I won the swimsuit competition it taught me that sometimes the doubts echoing in my head might not be a good guideline for limiting my possibilities. There are countless opportunities waiting for us to show up to meet them. I was so scared. I thought I knew who would win. But at this point I just dropped everything and had the time of my life, let go of my worries and won. It turned out completely differently than I had expected.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Who has been your inspiration and motivation that led you to your success in the world of acting, modeling and singing?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: My husband, Martin. He is my biggest rock. I don’t know how someone could make it in this business alone. He inspires and motivates me. I believe he makes me a better person. We are currently co-producing our first feature film together titled sexwithghosts. It’s a girl vs. poltergeist horror movie.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You in 2012 released Live In Your World, an EP of your own brand of pop-electronica music. You play bass guitar in the pop duo Snowflakes and are endorsed by Daisy Rock Guitars. Tell us about this endeavor of yours?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: Here’s an area where Martin’s encouragement really made this happen. He’s a musician and songwriter and producer with lots of movie credits including writing for Lindsey Lohan and with Matthew McConaughey. He encouraged me to try singing even though it’s not my most effortless gift. It’s something I really love. I love the recording process. And growing up in Ukraine, electronica is in my veins, I think. As for Snowflakes, again it was Martin. But this time he was asking me to play bass so we could have the fun of playing live shows together. He taught me to play. I couldn’t believe how fun it is to play live music in a rock and roll band. I never in a million years would have foreseen this for myself.

It’s really liberating. And it’s different from acting because you can look the audience directly in the eye. So if, anyone ever thinks it’s too late in life to start playing a musical instrument I am living proof that it isn’t. And the endorsement from Daisy Rock guitars is something I treasure. They design guitars and basses especially for girls. Founder Tish Ciravolo is all about empowering women, and does it using the magic of music as the medium. She found out online about me playing their Butterfly bass with Snowflakes and reached out to me. I’m proud and honored to be a Daisy Rock endorsee. Once again it’s a lesson in not limiting our futures with artificial mental barriers. The first Snowflakes album is almost all recorded.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us about your experience at the age of 14 when you, along with your father, Sergei, were visited by a UFO. Kindly elaborate on this experience of yours?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: It’s true. We were walking through a deserted farmer’s market at night. A shiny object zoomed down from the sky. It looked like a ball but I realized it was spinning. The spinning slowed as it descended. When it had slowed enough I saw it was really cylindrical with something larger on its ends, sort of like a dumbbell. When it stopped spinning it floated in the air maybe 1 meter away from my father and myself, and stayed for a while. I’m not sure how long – maybe a couple of minutes. Then, it spun faster and faster as it rose higher and higher. I’ve had to ask my father a few times if it really happened because it seemed so unreal. But we both were there and experienced it.

There’s an in depth video interview about it on YouTube titled “Natasha Blasick Interview – UFO radar”. The URL is http://youtu.be/eIblB9fqGs8

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Speaking on ITV’s “This Morning”, you have claimed that you once had a sexual encounter with a ghost. Kindly tell us about this unique experience of yours?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: I did have those experiences. My friend Patti Negri is the number one psychic in the US and number one medium in the world. When she heard my story she told me it was a case of spectrophilia, sex with ghosts. She invited me to do an interview on British morning television. Right afterward #sexwithghosts trended at #2 in the UK and the story spread around the world, getting picked up by news outlets including Entertainment Tonight and Huffington Post. I can’t describe it any better than I did in the original interview. Here’s the URL: http://youtu.be/Vjr-hfT3LaA

I am interested in what’s beyond our world. My experience gave me a good feeling to know there is something beyond this physical existence. The movie I’m co-producing is titled sexwithghosts. It’s not just a replay of my experience. But inspired by true events it’s giving me a great vehicle to explore some of life’s biggest questions in a fictionalized story. The movie goes way beyond fooling around. It’s paranormal horror where my character at first has a pleasurable experience with a ghost who then gets way out of hand and, well, let’s just say it’s a very naughty ghost. We’ll be going into production very soon.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: With exceptional hard work you are credited with all your achievements. Do you believe that the hand of Providence (Supreme Being) played a role in your success?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: I do believe in God. I believe miracles have happened to me.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?

Ms. Natasha Blasick: It’s a beautiful place to be inspired and gives us the tools to be healthier. Womenfitness.net reminds us we aren’t alone in our journey.
