Neghar Fonooni is a Lifestyle and Fitness Coach, Writer, Entrepreneur, Veteran, Mom, Feminist and Woman on a mission.
As a coach, speaker, and writer, Neghar’s mission is to help women stand in their power. What that means is really unique to every woman, but it essentially revolves around practicing authenticity, ownership, and self-love. She teaches women that we all have the power to define ourselves and to change that definition anytime we choose.
Neghar has worked as a personal trainer and fitness coach for over 15 years, served as an Arabic linguist in the United States Air Force, has been writing since she was eight years old, and birthed a witty and hilarious baby boy ten years ago. Her central focus is to help empower women through strength and bring wild and warm energy wherever she goes.
Lets take some fitness & motivation tips from Fitness Enthusiast Neghar Fonooni as she catches up with Namita Nayyar, President Women Fitness.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have been a personal trainer and fitness coach for over 15 years, served as an Arabic linguist in the United States Air Force, have been writing since you were eight years old, and have birthed a baby boy ten years ago. Walk us through your incredible journey and tell us how it all began?
Ms. Neghar Fonooni:
I started working at the YMCA as soon as I graduated high school, realizing early on that I had a strong interest in fitness. After 9/11, however, I felt called to drop out of college, leave my job, and join the Air Force.
For four years I served, studied, and connected with some amazing people from all over the country. When I had my son, then a civilian again, I decided to go back to work part-time as a trainer. As a single mom, I enjoyed the flexibility of a trainers schedule.
I never imagined it would take me to where I am today, but that decision certainly shaped my future.
A few years after returning to the gym world, I realized my passion for writing and the lack of it in my life was creating a void. It was then that I started my blog, and 8 years later, here I am! I’m currently blogging and writing my newsletter about body image, fitness, mindset, and issues that women face today.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You are a Lifestyle and Fitness Coach, Writer, Entrepreneur, Veteran, Mom, Speaker and a Woman on a mission. Introduce us to a day in your remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle.
Ms. Neghar Fonooni:
I usually wake up between 5-6 am to get some much needed solitude before the day begins. I light candles and burn sage, read, journal, and pull tarot cards. This time is so important for me because it allows me to fill my cup.
My husband and I take turns getting our son ready for school, and afterwards I walk the dogs and do a little yoga before getting ready for work.
A typical work day includes writing, recording my podcast, posting on social media, and/or recording videos. By 4pm I’m usually shutting down my laptop so that I can pick up my son from school and head to the gym.
After the gym I cook dinner for my boys, or, if I’m exhausted, we order out. We usually unwind as a family with a TV show we’re enjoying together. I’ll sometimes have a glass of wine or take another walk with the pups.
I’m in bed no later than 10, often reading before I fall asleep.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine that you may wish to share?
Ms. Neghar Fonooni:
My workouts usually include pull-ups, pushups, squats, deadlifts, bench pressing, and sled work. I also do yoga every day, even for just 5 minutes.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Neghar Fonooni:
Nope! I actually am a recovering dieter and I think it’s important for women to avoid restriction in favor of moderation and listening to their own bodies. While calorie counting can be a wonderful short term strategy to understand portions and such, it doesn’t work in the long term.
I eat lots of protein and veggies, and try to eat starchier carbs around my intense workouts. But I am pretty free and comfortable around food in general. I love wine and chocolate, but I love broccoli and salmon too!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Share with us your skincare and haircare routine.
Ms. Neghar Fonooni:
I actually rarely wash my hair! I would say I probably wash it once a week at most. I think this might be what keeps it healthy, but I mostly do this because I have so much to do in my life, I can’t be bothered with washing and drying my hair.
As for my skin, I use a skin product line called Mad Hippie every morning and evening. It’s all natural and helps keep my skin glowing.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding fitness trainers who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in field of fitness?
Ms. Neghar Fonooni:
The best thing you can do is consistently and authentically create solid, actionable content. Create, create, create—and so with the heart of a giver, without entitlement, and with the best intentions.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You are the author of the 12-week total transformation system, Lean & Lovely. Would you like to enlighten us about this spectacular transformation plan?
Ms. Neghar Fonooni:
I wrote this program to help women see that fitness and nutrition can be fun, efficient, and effective—meaning you don’t have to spend hours obsessing over this stuff in order to see results.
I also included a lot of deeper mindset work because I think that while fat loss is a great goal, there are a lot of women struggling to love and accept their bodies. This mindset work is the most important thing we can do, more important than any exercise or diet.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Who has been your greatest influence and motivator in your success in the field of fitness?
Ms. Neghar Fonooni:
I have a sisterhood of female peers who inspire me and motivate me daily, such as Jen Sinkler, Jill Coleman, and Erin Brown.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What according to you are the 5 most important fitness and nutrition facts for a person to keep in mind while looking for healthy weight loss?
Ms. Neghar Fonooni:
Consistently under eating can actually lead to binging.
Fitness needs to be fun, otherwise whats the point?
Consistency and momentum are always more impactful than pursuing perfection.
The scale rarely tells the full story—pay attention to how you feel, how your clothes fit, and don’t stress out over the scale.
You are just as worthy of love and connection RIGHT now as you are -20 pounds from now.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have built a very fantastic chiseled physique after having a baby, so what advice do you wish to give to the new mothers who want to get back into shape post-pregnancy?
Ms. Neghar Fonooni:
First, take your time. Be with your baby. Cherish these limited moments. You do not need to be fixed and getting in shape doesn’t have to rule your life.
Second, talk to your doctor and look to fitness professionals who specialize in post partum fitness. Birthfit and Jesse Mundell are both great resources. You want to be sure you pay attention to your pelvic floor and that you ease into exercise.
Lastly, make exercise and nutrition work for you, not against you. 15-30 minutes of exercise and easily prepped meals are best. This is a busy and emotional time for you—there’s no need to make it more hectic!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You also seem to have a massive following on your social media accounts, which has made you a social media sensation and an internet fitness star. How does it feel that you are able to influence the healthy lifestyle of so many individuals?
Ms. Neghar Fonooni:
It’s a massive responsibility that I don’t take lightly. My aim is to empower women to give themselves permission—whatever that permission means to them. Maybe it’s to feel more alive and at home in their bodies, maybe it’s to make a career leap, or to make significant lifestyle changes.
I see my role as an influencer as one that helps women find their own power, and I’m honored to occupy that space for as long and as best as I can.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What do you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for our readers?
Ms. Neghar Fonooni:
The most important thing you can do in this world is to show up fully and authentically. Fitness and nutrition are such wonderful endeavors, but they don’t need to control your life. Find ways to eat and exercise that add to your life, and never detract from it.
And never ever forget how powerful and worthy you are.
