Hospital to “Go Red for Women” With Health Fair Friday

Reported January 30, 2010, (OSF St. Mary Medical Center)

In honor of “National Go Red for Women Day,” Friday, February 5th, OSF Saint Mary Medical Center is hosting a Women’s Health and Fitness Fair. February is American Heart Month, during which the American Heart Association raises awareness of heart health and heart disease prevention. “Go Red for Women Day” was designed by the American Heart Association to embrace and elevate the cause of women and heart disease.

According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one killer among women in America. Everyone is encouraged to wear red on February 5th to raise awareness of heart disease and empower women to reduce their risk.

In support of this nationally recognized effort, OSF St. Mary Medical Center will host a Women’s Health and Fitness Fair, from 7-11am in the Cardiac Rehab Center, located on the ground floor of the hospital. Participants can have their blood pressure, BMI, blood sugar and cholesterol checked. There will be booths offering information on heart health, healthy eating, walking and fitness programs that have been proven to reduce the risk of heart disease. There will also be door prize drawings throughout the morning and give-aways. The event is free and open to the public.
