Marijuana in Medical Care?

(Ivanhoe Newswire) — Does marijuana have a place in medical treatment? Researchers say they now have science-based information with which policy makers can begin discussing the place of marijuana in medical care.
Researchers at the University of Californias Center for Medical Cannabis Research has found evidence that marijuana is an effective treatment for some pain-related medical conditions.
Five clinical trials have been completed focusing on illnesses where medical treatment didn’t provide “adequate relief or coverage of symptoms,” Igor Grant, M.D., director of the Center for Medical Cannabis Research, was quoted as saying.
Researchers say the studies show marijuana can be helpful in easing pain in certain syndromes caused by injury or nervous system diseases and that it may also be helpful in treating muscle spasms due to multiple sclerosis.
Similar clinical trials are still in progress.
