Protein-Heavy Breakfasts Can Curb Appetite

– Reported, November 19, 2013

(Ivanhoe Newswire) – Breakfast meals high in protein help control appetite and eat less throughout the day.

Researchers from the University of Missouri either gave participants breakfast meals which consisted of 300 calories worth of sausage and eggs, each meal had 30 to 39 grams of protein, or a breakfast meal of 300 calories worth of pancakes and syrup. Both meals had similar amounts of fat and fiber. Participants filled out questionnaires about their appetite before breakfast and at 30 minute periods between breakfast and lunch. They were then provided with lunch and told to eat until they were full. Participants who ate the protein-rich breakfasts had better appetite ratings throughout the morning before breakfast and ate fewer calories at lunch.
