Sara Galimberti is exceptionally talented and accomplished Italian track and field athlete. She is winner of Miss Lombardia, Italy beauty pageant. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You must have started at a very young age to run long distance and latter started competing in 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, 10000m & Half Marathon and reached the pinnacle of success by winning in number of competitions you took part. Tell us your journey of success in athletics running long distance?

Ms. Sara Galimberti:

I started racing at the age of twelve after having won the first races at school. It all started as a game, to stay in shape, but then running has become my greatest passion and I have not stopped yet.

The first big success came a few years later when I saw the chronometer on the 1,000 meters goes down. Then over the time I increased the workout and so the first medals in the 1500 and 5000 meters came. Today I’m trying to specialize on longer distances as the 10000 meters and I ran several international competitions. It has been and it is right now a long and hard journey full of sacrifices and fatigue, and it requires lots of determination and passion especially when you are tired or fail a competition.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you shall like to share?

Ms. Sara Galimberti:

Currently athletics is my main business and my daily routine is scheduled according to the workouts. Usually I train twice a day: I get up early and run every day and then alternate the gym to running and gymnastics in the water. Stretching is crucial to protect themselves from injury: I do it just as I wake up in the morning and after each training session.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Sara Galimberti:

For an athlete nutrition is crucial, perhaps more than training! I eat a little bit of everything trying to prefer carbohydrates (such as whole pasta and rice) before a strenuous workout, and protein (such as white meat and fish) at each meal. I really like vegetable and fruits. I do love sweets especially ice cream and occasionally I give them to me. I have never been on diet because since I was a child I have been eating in a healthy manner and in small portions 5 times a day. Obviously never fried foods, chips, fast food and all the junk food. The secret is finding your own healthy food routine! But sometimes I have a cheat meal too!!

Sara Galimberti on Women Fitness: I think website like this are really useful to motivate fit and sporty people to give even more, and to encourage those who aren’t yet, to follow the example of athletes. Everything can be your motivation: a book, a website, a fitgirl, an athlete… When you train yourself at the end of each workout you discover that a healthy and active life improves your mood, mind and body.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have glowing skin and gorgeous hairs. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hairs to make them look so stunning?

Ms. Sara Galimberti:

I believe that food is our medicine to get shiny hair and glowing skin. Unfortunately I have to wash my hair almost every day, that’s why I use natural and gentle products in order to not ruin them. If I have to use hair dryer and iron too, I try to protect my hair with a thermal protector. I really like the Moroccan Oil treatment because it makes my hair so silky!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding girl athletes who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in the field of women athletics ?

Ms. Sara Galimberti:

I always say that if you have a dream you have to chase it and never give up. You know in life there will always be so many difficulties in anything you do, so do not be demoralized if you fail but go on forever. At the end of every success, however small, it erases all the fatigue and hard work! That’s my motto and that’s why I’m always trying to help people, give advice and motivation with my social account on Facebook and Instagram! They give me the opportunity to be close and support people and friends!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

How did you feel before and after your memorable win in Outdoor 5000m with time of 15:55.00 on 4th May 2014 at Stanford CA ?

Ms. Sara Galimberti:

The American experience has been a dream! Training in Albuquerque for one month and racing at the Payton Jordan in Stanford has been the most exciting experience in my life! In US there is a totally different conception of sport than in Italy and it is amazing to see that in each school there are athletic teams with so competitive and young athletes. Winning that race with my best time on 5000mt was an incentive to do even better to me!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have done bold photo shoots, how you are so body confident and advice to your compatriots?

Ms. Sara Galimberti:

Honestly I’m shy…maybe because I’m not a professional model, but however I am comfortable with my body and posing for photo shoots helped me to be always more and more self confident.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You was crowned Miss Lombardia (one of the northernmost provinces in Italy, which includes fashion mecca Milan). Tell us about your experience and this endeavor of yours?

Ms. Sara Galimberti:

In 2009 I was seventeen and Miss Italy was exciting and a funny game. It opened so many opportunities to work in tv and fashion business. It would have been certainly easier and less tiring to be a model than an athlete, but sport is my passion and my business now so often I have to give up shooting and fashion jobs if on my schedule I have a train or a competition. But I do it with pleasure!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You participate in 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, 10000 m & Half Marathon which one is your favourite and why ?

Ms. Sara Galimberti:

I prefer to run long distances so no doubt that 10,000 meters and half marathon are my favorite! Even though workouts are longer and more challenging…

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Who has been your biggest influence and motivation in your path to success ?

Ms. Sara Galimberti:

My family and especially my mother, former athlete. But I don’t have a sport idol. I respect all those who have been able to realize their dream! I’m very stubborn and if I want something I have to get it, even at the cost of sacrificing vacations, outings with friends and my hobbies!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?

Ms. Sara Galimberti:

I think websites like this are really useful to motivate fit and sporty people to give even more, and to encourage those who aren’t yet, to follow the example of athletes. Everything can be your motivation: a book, a website, a fitgirl, an athlete… When you train yourself at the end of each workout you discover that a healthy and active life improves your mood, mind and body.
