Ms. Namita Nayyar:

At the age of 16, you won a hair modelling contest in Portugal called Cabelos Pantene 2007. It was your dream to work for Victoria’s Secret, which was realized in 2013. Walk us through your incredible modelling journey so far.

Ms. Sara Sampaio:

It’s funny to think about my journey, because a lot of people think it all happened very fast, but quite the contrary. I started modeling when I was 16, and was still in school so I was only modeling part time in Portugal. I decided to give modeling a try full time at 19 while I was still at the university studying math. My International career started in London when I booked my first big job, the commercial for AXE body spray.  After that I went to Paris, but when I moved to the USA that is when my career really took off.  I did a catalog shoot for Victoria’s Secret and booked Calzedonia, which I was the face of for 4 years. Even though I was shooting catalog for Victoria’s Secret it still took me three tries to get the Victoria’s Secret fashion show and almost 4 years to become an angel.

Commercially, I was doing very well, but I always wanted to do runway and high fashion campaigns. That was the hardest to get because I’m not as tall as the runway girls. Only this year I had a full fashion week season where I walked 19 shows and now I’m shooting for magazines and brands that I’ve always dreamed of. It’s been a 9 year process and it’s been tough, but I’m not the one to give up and I never shy away from challenges.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You are a world leading media personality, fashion model and a brand ambassador. How do you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?

Ms. Sara Sampaio:

Ahh thank you, your words not mine. 🙂 I think nowadays with social media you get to be more than just a pretty face and for me that’s so much more fun. I love to be a spokesperson for brands because I have so much to say and I love having the platform to do so.

I think as long as you stay true to yourself and work hard, you can build your own brand and that’s what I’m trying to do. My interests go much further than just modeling and there is so much that I want to create and explore.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine that you may wish to share?

Ms. Sara Sampaio:

Part of my job is being fit, strong and the best version of myself all year long. I try to work out about 3 to 4 times a week, and I like to change up my workouts. I do SLT, I run, I work out with personal trainers at Dogpound and Justin Gelband for more resistance training. If I’m by the ocean I love to swim or surf, so for me it is really about changing it up and making it fun.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you adhere to a specific diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit? Also, tell us about your diet prior to a Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Ms. Sara Sampaio:

I don’t have a strict diet, it’s really all about moderation. I work out quite intensely so I need to eat according to that so a lot of proteins, good carbohydrates like rice, lots of vegetables and fruit. At the end of the day I’m a big fan of pizza, bread and pasta, so I won’t restrict myself from eating these things, I just make sure I eat them in moderation. I think if you’re stressing about all of the things you can’t eat it actually has the opposite effect so I allow myself to eat a bit of everything.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Share with us your skincare and haircare routine.

Ms. Sara Sampaio:

When it come to my hair I am truly fortunate to have strong healthy hair so I don’t have to do much with it, I just need a good haircut. My stylist Danielle Priano is the only one aloud to touch it. 🙂 I wash my hair and use conditioner daily, and maybe do a mask once in a while. I like to use Pantene shampoo and conditioner. I’ve been using it for years, and I’ve tried so many different brands (high end, affordable, etc.) and I always come back to it. The mask I really love is the Morrocan oil mask and lately I’ve been using the Morrocan oil treatment on my ends for maximum hydration.

When it comes to my skin, I wish I could tell you I have a miracle product but I really am still trying to figure out the best routine.  I make sure I stay hydrated since what your skin looks on the outside comes from inside so it is important to hydrate and eat a lot of antioxidant rich foods. If I had to name a few products I like to use I’d say Charlotte Tilbury’s magic cream and I use the Sisley hydration mask after every flight as I travel often.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You’ve won Portuguese Golden Globes in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016 for Best Female Model. Share with us your 5 Fitness Secrets to stay in shape.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

We’ve seen how strongly you’ve spoken out against skinny shaming. What advice would you give to young girls who often face these issues?

Ms. Sara Sampaio:

My advice to girls that suffer any kind of shaming is to first of all be strong. Everyone is beautiful, and we are all so different and that is what makes us so special.

Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help and to talk to your family and friends. If you are being bullied or attacked and you don’t know how to deal with it ask for advice and ask for help from others. You don’t have to go through this alone. For every person that says something bad about you, trust me, you have 10 people that love you, and you should always focus on the people that love you, because they are who matter.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Any advice or motivational words to the inspiring and budding fashion models, who are all your fans and would like to hear from you as they climb the ladder of success in the field of modelling?

Ms. Sara Samapaio:

Definitely to never give up. I know it sounds cliché, but this industry is about persistence. It’s about the girl that heard “no” hundreds of times, but is still standing up every single time. Talk to your agent, be vocal about what you want and work with them on how you can achieve it. If there’s a problem, then find solutions. If someone said you will never do something, then show them they are wrong and do everything to achieve what you want. It takes hard work, perseverance, sweat, tears, laughs, professionalism and never letting anyone limiting you! If you want something, go and get it – that’s my motto. And that’s not just in modeling, but with everything in life.
