Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You started with a lot of hard work to make a career in television, tell us something about this professional journey?

Ms. Storm Uechtritz:

I always knew I wanted to be involved in the media world and after finishing high school I went to university to study Film & Television. I completed 3 years of my degree in Brisbane (Australia) before receiving an international scholarship to study abroad at UCLA (University of California Los Angeles) for my 4th and final year. While in Los Angeles I managed to score an internship with HBO (Home Box Office) in the Original Programming Department and got my first taste of the “real world” of television. I loved every single second! This whole experience cemented my commitment to a career in television.

After graduating with Honors from UCLA I returned to Australia and started at the very bottom like everyone else. To be honest it didn’t really matter about my HBO experience or excelling with my degree – it’s a hierarchical industry and you have to do your time just like the rest. And so that’s what I did – I worked hard, didn’t take holidays, committed myself 100% to my career and crawled my way up the ladder.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have selected a profession as Producer & Director of television programs, that requires a lot of hard labor, technical soundness and excellence in different faculties to finally succeed. How do you achieve that?

Ms. Storm Uechtritz:

You work hard! I come from a family of grafters and learnt from a very young age that this was the key to success in whatever field you choose. I guess I was also one of those particularly driven kids who wanted to be the best at everything – academically; on the sporting field; on the stage; and even at home as the only daughter. I think this innate instinct has served me well over the years and allowed me to push myself when sometimes others may have given up.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine?

Ms. Storm Uechtritz:

I have never been one for gyms or intense fitness regimes – if it feels like a “workout” then I lose interest and my motivation. I guess I get bored. So I tend to run outside in the sunshine where I can take in sights and breath in the fresh air. I’m always travelling so it’s actually a great way to explore cities and the local culture – it’s amazing how much you can discover in one 5km run!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you have a special diet or strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Storm Uechtritz:

Two major facts about my childhood can answer this question a) I grew up on a cattle farm and b) I have three older brothers. Strict menus are not an option for someone like me as I’m a total carnivore and I love food (plus copious amounts of it). Trying to restrict any aspect of my diet would make me unhappy and I wouldn’t go there unless absolutely necessary for medical reasons.

Having three big brothers made me very competitive when it came to stamping my place in the family pecking order – I wanted to be just as big and just as tough as them and this meant I wanted to eat just as much as them too. When it came to dinner time and my mum was serving out our plates, all hell would break loose if I ended up with less food on my plate than my brothers haha. I’ve now ended up with an extraordinarily large appetite for a female and eat more than all of them!

In fact I eat more than anyone I know. But I would say I have a well balanced diet though – I eat loads of veg, meats, salads, breads, and sweets. The only things I wouldn’t eat a lot of are seafood (I have red meat 6-7 nights a week, mostly steak) and pasta. I have a major weakness for chocolate but as far as I’m concerned, that’s ok because I don’t have any other bad habits haha. Every girl deserves a bit of choc!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly, what do you do to your hair to make it look so stunning?

Ms. Storm Uechtritz:

The only secret to my hair is I rarely do anything with it – I let it dry naturally and I don’t use products. I get blonde highlights put through my hair every 2-3 months so I try to make up for that by leaving it alone the rest of the time. When I have red carpet events then of course I will get my hair blow-dried (or styled) but otherwise it’s just all natural. My hairdryer at home would get used twice a year – if that!

As for my skin I’m super cautious about the sun (like most Aussies are). I wear a pharmaceutical grade sunscreen every single day and I drink loads of water. I then alternate between a good moisturizer and a Vitamin A serum at night. It’s an easy & cost effective routine so I’m hoping this routine will get me by as long as possible.

Overall I don’t like fuss and I don’t like wasting time in the bathroom – I’d rather use the extra time catching up on sleep and saving the extra pennies for other things. Quick beauty routines and quick makeup applications are my forte.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Any advice and motivational words for our inspiring and budding women who wish to make a career in acting and television production, who all are your fans, what should they do for their climb to the ladder of success in the Television Industry?

Ms. Storm Uechtritz:

Be sure you have the passion because that’s what gets you through the 16hr days and endless weeks with no days off. It may seem like a glamorous industry to work in, but it’s really a lot of hard work too. It’s a very competitive industry also and so you want to be sure you’re ready to make some personal sacrifices to ensure you’re a cut above the rest. In saying that, I absolutely LOVE what I do and it is worth the fight if that’s what you love also.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Who has been your inspiration and motivation that led you to your success in the world of production and direction in television?

Ms. Storm Uechtritz:

There’s no one person in particular that I take inspiration from – loads of people in my life have inspired me and in different ways. In terms of motivation, I think I get that from my own eagerness to succeed. Ever since I was a little girl I’ve been very independent and driven to be the best that I can be. And I hope this comes out in me no matter what I’m doing.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have been associated with and your fans look forward to your public appearances at Fashion Shows, for the ultra-fashionable dresses you wear. Who are your dress designers or do you give your personal inputs to make you look so stunning?

Ms. Storm Uechtritz:

I am very particular about what I wear and I don’t just wear something because it’s in season. I take inspiration from seasonal looks or trends & then work those elements into my own individual style. Because of this I tend to choose everything myself but I do sometimes get tips on new & different designers from a good friend of mine, Anne Stringer, who is a stylist in Australia. She is great because she’s always throwing names around of people I haven’t heard of before and then I go off and Google their collections.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have been associated with Marie Keating Foundation and a number of charities, which are all dear to your heart. Tell us how you have been able to achieve and quench your thirst of giving back to the society through this endeavor of yours?

Ms. Storm Uechtritz:

I wouldn’t say my thirst has been quenched just yet – it’s just the beginning. There is so much more I want to do (and plan to do) in the future, because I’m lucky to be in a position where I can. I feel so incredibly fortunate to have lived the life that I have up until now: my childhood, my family, my partner, my experiences, my health, my friends, my achievements etc.. so I guess I want to balance the scales a little and show my gratitude by doing my bit and giving back.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You are a leading female TV Producer, model, traveller and a fit woman. How are you able to manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional, multi-faceted lifestyle?

Ms. Storm Uechtritz:

When you’re truly happy in your heart and in your own skin, you can manage anything. Not everything in life is as simplified and as perfect as it looks in the press and you do have to work hard to keep up with it all. I consider myself so blessed to have one completely perfect thing in my life and that is my love & relationship with Ronan and I get an extraordinary amount of strength from this.

I think it’s also important to keep things in perspective and keep your feet firmly planted on the ground – my dad used to always say to us kids.. “good things happen to good people” and I have lived by this motto my entire life. I guess that kind of faith can always get you through the most difficult tasks and emotional challenges.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What do you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?

Ms. Storm Uechtritz:

Happiness doesn’t come from “things” – happiness comes from your heart and being truly honest and happy in yourself. No amount of wealth, beauty or intelligence can “make” you happy so I think it’s important to find balance in your life. No one’s perfect and those that spend most of their time trying to pretend that they are (or that they have a perfect life) often are the ones that really aren’t. So keep it real and remember that beauty is on the inside.

I think womenfitness.net is a good source for women who want to improve their health and boost their confidence no matter what their varying goals are.
