Tarah Gieger: World Leading Female Professional Motocross Racer Talks Fitness

Tarah Gieger was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. She is a Puerto Rican female professional motocross racer. Her special talent is surfing. Her favourite food is fried bananas and her favourite music is Megadeth.

As one of the most recognisable names in women’s motocross, Tarah Gieger’s success can be measured in podiums. Since her pro debut in 2003, Tarah has claimed a podium position at every major contest and in 2008, took home the gold medal at the X Games very first Women’s Moto X event.

She switched to motorcycles when she was 10 years old. She began riding them in the mountains of San Sebastián where crowds gather to practice.

In 2003, Gieger began racing professionally. Gieger won Loretta Lynn AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship titles in 2004, 2006, and 2007. Also in 2007, she became the first female racer ever to compete in the Motocross des Nations. In 2008, Gieger won the first women’s supercross event at the X Games XIV.

Her dedication, on the other hand, is measured in broken bones; Tarah has bounced back from almost-catastrophic injuries so many times it’s unlikely that there’s much that could keep her down. She has been instrumental in sparking a phenomenon that has blown open the doors of the motocross “boys” club. “My goal is to win everything I enter,” Tarah says. “I am not going to be satisfied until I dominate the sport of women’s motocross.”

In 2009, despite a broken wrist, Tarah still managed to compete in many world championship races. In 2010, she picked up the silver medal at the X Games in Super X and successfully defended her piece of silverware the following year. 2012 brought more success when Tarah stood atop the podium at different Women’s Motocross Championships across America. More success followed in 2013 with X Games bronze medals in both Enduro X and Moto X.

Tarah has also got her sights set on the women’s race series in Europe, where Factory teams and prestige prevail amongst women’s racing. She sure is excited to load her bike up already and head there (Check Shark Kage Youtube Profile to learn more about folding truck ramps to load your bikes on pickup trucks.) Breaking down more barriers and picking up a world championship along the way are on her “To Do’ list.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Your love with motorcycles began at the age of 10 years and later propelled your professional career to the height where you have been at the top of the world of Motorcycle racing and reached the pinnacle of success when in 2008 you took home the gold medal at the X Games, the very first Women’s Moto X event. Tell us about this fairy tale journey?

Ms. Tarah Gieger:

I wouldn’t call it a fairy tale journey by any means but it has been a pretty amazing ride so far. I have worked very hard and come back from some very serious injuries but that is also what has made me the competitor I am today. I have made the most of every opportunity I was given and that has lead me to some great things. Like my dream of competing at x games and winning a gold there and many other medals since then.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have selected a sport which requires a lot of cohesiveness and absolute understanding between your team of technicians, your machine and you to finally succeed, how do you achieve that?

Ms. Tarah Gieger:

It’s all about having respect and confidence in each other. I need to know my mechanic is giving me the best possible bike I can have and they need to know I am going to give it all I have in the race. That together is what gives us a good relationship.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you may wish to share?

Ms. Tarah Gieger:

I do a lot of cross training with other sports. There are so many other things I love doing like surfing, mountain biking and riding stand up jetskis. I also spend 3 to 4 days a week in the gym with Titus sports academy and ride my road bicycle if I feel the need for some extra cardio.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Tarah Gieger:

I do not have a specific diet plan I follow. I mainly try to eat things that will give my body the energy and nutrients to keep up with the physically demanding nature of this sport. If I have a few days where I don’t eat the right things my body can feel it. So try and stick to a lot of grilled chicken, fruits and veggies.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding motorcycle racing girls who all are your fans and shall like to know from you for their climb to ladder of success in field of motorcycle racing?

Ms. Tarah Gieger:

The most important thing is to have fun with it. There are a lot of ups and downs in this sport that can make it very difficult to stay committed to it. If its something you are passionate about then you need to use that to keep you focused and motivated to do the work to reach the top level.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have done bold photo shoots for ESPN body issue. How you are so body confident and advice to your

Ms. Tarah Gieger:

At the end of the day it is important to me to just be happy with myself. If there is something that I am not happy with I take the steps to change it. You don’t have to be perfect but if you are happy and confident with who you are then others will notice.
