Achievements of Tiffany Boydston

Tiffany Boydston is talented IFBB Pro Bikini competitor and fitness expert. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You were diagnosed with hypoglycemia and began to cut out highly on processed and fatty foods and soon realized that nutrition was responsible for 80 percent of your overall results. Tell us about your story how you transformed your body and found confidence with fitness?

Ms. Tiffany Boydston:

In 2008, I had a rude awakening with hypoglycemia. I will have to back it up for everyone to understand how this all began. In 2005, I had started following unhealthy ways with foods and inactivity. I came from a very athletic background growing up. My mother put me in every sport imaginable because, I wanted to do them all or maybe I had so much energy she needed to dispense somewhere. Regardless of which it was, it molded me to be health conscious since I could remember.

The only issue was I was never taught the proper way of nutrition what foods did for you to help you perform and function. As I entered into my teens, is when I started to notice dips in my energy and well being from not eating the best choices and would go hours with out even a snack to help stabilize blood sugars. After years of not being well educated in nutrition I hit a wall.

I was heavy for being so petite at 5’2 I was my heaviest at 140. I had stopped sports at 17/18 and had no idea how to work out or even where to begin. All I knew about being physically active was playing softball, soccer, Taekwondo, cheer, basketball, and even volleyball for a year. I went to a very small catholic school and played sports there as well as outside leagues.

When all of that came to an end I truly was lost. This is when in inactivity kicked in and foods were chaos. Around 19-20 is when I started to get more involved into sports again but it wasn’t the same. I would get horrible vertigo after training and practices. I felt as if the room was spinning and felt ill every time. I didn’t know I was about to spiral into what I was diagnosed with a few years later. Severe hypoglycemia. I have been able to control it with wholesome foods and meal timing. I never use the excuse of it taking over my life. If it’s something as simple as a diet to fix then what do I have to use excuses for. Health is always first! Food is medicine!!!

The one thing I was also diagnosed with at 25 was hypothyroidism. With all the foods, holistic practices and naturally trying to boost my thyroid – it never seemed to want to kick on and I caved into taking medication because it was a never ending battle with weight gain, hair loss, irregular cycles and depression. I am to this day eating all the minerals, foods and exercises to in hopes wean off my medication one day. Until then I give no excuses and fight daily for my progress! I love this lifestyle and wouldn’t change it for the world. I teach the importance of hormone balancing now with clients to ensure their optimal internal health.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You were encouraged & motivated to compete in fitness competitions. You reached the pinnacle of success by winning many professional bikini competitions including 2011 NPC Junior National Championships. Tell us about your journey that took you to the the world of fitness and as a winner in Professional Bikini competitions?

Ms. Tiffany Boydston:

I actually had no idea what I was doing in the Beginning! I started out by seeking nutritional help from my coach Kim Oddo at the time and he saw potential in myself to compete. I was actually afraid to and said that if I could just do the diet and see if I can from that point on. Sure enough, 4 months later I was doing my first show and was so calm not knowing what I was doing and ended up placing 2nd in my very first show and 1 week later winning the Sacramento NPC show and this was a special show because my family was able to attend. Which placing in those two shows qualified me for nationals! Again, I had no idea really how the process went, I trusted my coach to guide me as an NPC athlete.

When I went to nationals, I remember just not caring and having such a blast! I earned my pro card that very show in Chicago of 2011! Then I skyrocketed from there! I went on a spiral of shows to get me to the Olympia and unfortunately I was shy just a point. In 2012, I never fell out side the top 5 of every show I attended. This earned my spot at the 2012 Olympia where I placed in the top 15! For my very first Olympia this was huge! There were about 40 of the best veteran IFBB Pro Bikini athletes.

These were the girls I saw on magazines and here is little me beating those gorgeous women. It was a humbling moment and still am to this day inspired by those women! I then continued my streak in 2013 being my best year yet and again qualified for the Olympia! I ended up placing 10th! Top 10 in the world – and I couldn’t be happier! This was my last showing due to getting my health back in order!

I took a hit internally from not allowing a full break for two years in a row! I felt that this showing would be a great note to take a break on! I have since been able to teach proper breaks, reverse dieting and proper nutrition with my clients. So that they never make the mistake of over training and under eating for extended period of times!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

How your experience as a CPT, CN, CSN, CLC, health & wellness expert coach and background of many years in Professional Bikini competitions has helped you in carving your present profession of being a fitness model and fitness trainer?

Ms. Tiffany Boydston:

My first training position was at Tapout Las Vegas and was their 1st female trainer. I really focused on conditioning for athletes along with, one on one with clients as well. I have became a personal trainer right after I turned PRO. I wanted to educate more in what had become of my life 24/7. I wanted to teach myself about nutrition which makes up 80% of our results. This helped me understand the process of which had consumed all of my interests and hobbies! I then continued my education as a life coach, cert. sports nutritionist, health and wellness coach and master plus trainer. Applying all this knowledge along with my career only furthered my success all around.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Share your exercise routine that you do to maintain such a bikini perfect physique?

Ms. Tiffany Boydston:

My training is always evolving! I really take note of switching up my routines! The body is so smart to adaptation. One needs to make sure you have fun and really test your limits. After all, this is our playground (any style of training in gyms, crossfit, athletic training and sports). With that being said I can somewhat breakdown a sample week!

Monday: Legs with a 12 min HIIT session

Tuesday: Upper body Shoulder focus with an upper body condition round (10 min of burpees, pushups, Plyo pushups and Double Unders)

Wednesday: 25-35 min of HIIT followed by Yoga Practice

Thursday: Chest, Triceps Core boxing/bag work

Friday: Back, Biceps with 10 min HIIT warmup before weights

Saturday: Full body pilates and bootcamp in 105 degree heat! I love this class they are 45 min each with a break in between of course! IT really challenges my mental and physical self. It pushes you beyond your comfort zone and really tests your core and mental state. Right when you think you can not finish you somehow dig deep and continue to push through!

Sunday:
The hardest day.. yet- the most important day.. REST DAY or I’ll do a meditation or yoga practice to really zone out and relax the mind and body.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What is your diet? Do you take a particular fixed regulated diet comprising of nutrients and vitamins to keep you in perfect health?

Ms. Tiffany Boydston:

This too is always evolving. I never consume the same thing and really have been experimenting with foods. I was use to the same thing every single day and was too afraid to experiment and this was a concern. I had become afraid to eat foods I didn’t know how my body would respond too.

I went from having egg whites, chicken, and all lean meats. I was barely consuming any fats low carb and lacked variety of vegetables and fruits. Sad I know… I was too afraid to eat sugars and fats because I was sucked into thinking these would make me fat.

I now juice every morning to get all my vitamins and minerals in a glass. I then have a shake post work out with ACAI berries, banana, maca, cacao, MRM super food sacha inchi powder and young coconut meat.

Depending on my workout day I will have a big bowl of GF oats or cream of rice with berries. This would follow my shake!

Lunch: Salad, Vegan GF wrap with avocado, micro greens and rice or soup, salad and sweet potato. This is always changing up as well!

Dinner: Large Salad steamed Veggies and Salmon ( whole organic eggs, any lean fish or Tempeh I switch this up constantly on what I am feeling like)

Dessert/snack before bed: MRM Veggie elite Chocolate mocha shake topped with Almond butter

As you can see I cut out meat significantly and am enjoying more colorful foods, Healthy fats and really balancing out the body has been my goal now! So I have a few extra curves yet I am still in shape and workout everyday. To me being healthy means being beautifully whole inside and you will shine on the outside! I consume more organic plant based foods to replenish my microbes (Healthy bacteria living in our guts).

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What is your motivation to take a multi-faceted personality of a fitness model, professional figure and bikini competitor, an ISSA Certified Personal Trainer, Crossfit Certified Trainer, Tapout Personal Trainer, certified nutrition specialist and the fitness manager?

Ms. Tiffany Boydston:

The amazing part about having all of this behind my name is the education that comes behind it. I love changing someone’s life for the better, helping them internally and externally and showing them that there are no excuses when it comes to being the best YOU that one can be! I am so passionate about my work and embrace each client in as if they are family and really help them achieve their goals! I always tell my clients their goals are my goals because, I want them to succeed just as badly as they want to! We are a team! MY motivation is just that, showing someone the way to health in internal and external success. I Love my job and wouldn’t change it for the world.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hair to make them look so stunning?

Ms. Tiffany Boydston:

WOW! Thank you! My hair and skin didn’t really start “glowing” until the last few years. I have been really focusing on making sure I eat all colors of the rainbow, getting plenty of omegas and replenishing my gut flora with probiotics. That really is the secret. Also, I do a few cleanses a month to give my digestive track a break and help the process of elimination “flush” out of my system.

The cleanses, are basically consuming tons of veggies, juices and take a break from grains and meats. I never consume dairy and when I do it’s only unpasteurized organic ghee (so many health benefits with ghee I keep this in as a staple). I will do this for about 7-10 days and take liver support (MRM Liver X) and flushing teas.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Fitness modeling is about bold photo shoots. What advice you wish to give to the women of today to be body confident in order to do such bold modeling?

Ms. Tiffany Boydston:

The funny thing is we all have our insecurities with shoots especially how they are risky and BOLD. To have confidence is purely beautiful and rare. I didn’t start out as the most confident person as I was teased by mean girls growing up and was never the pretty girl. Which created a lot of self doubt and to this day feel like I pressure myself to look or be a certain way to be held accountable for my line of work.

However- I have also learned to embrace every flaw in the process and let me tell you it has taken 29 years for me to finally just let go and except me for as I am and continue to progress as best I can. To me this is confidence in knowing you are doing your best and you go strut it and pull your inner diva out! Mine is always JLO she has this I don’t care attitude and embraces her curves! Between her and Beyonce it doesn’t get any more beautifully confident than that! Embrace your curves and any shape you are in for that matter!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding professional bikini competitor girls who all are your fans and shall like to know from you for their climb to ladder of success in field of professional bikini competitions?

Ms. Tiffany Boydston:

Remember to all – progress not perfection is the key. Start out with a realistic goal and know that this is for fun! It will really make you shine in the fitness realm. I had fun and smiled the whole way through. My last year was a bit rough but I embraced it and knew it was time for a change. When you get to that point set a new goal and conquer what your heart leads you towards. Not what your mind thinks you should do. Follow your heart.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Tell us how you felt before and after winning the 2nd place at 2013 IFBB St. Louis Pro Bikini?

Ms. Tiffany Boydston:

Wow, what a great question and interesting one. Not many people know about the struggle of this show but I will be 100% honest about my feelings and even how I ended up doing this show.

I will never know the true story about what happened leading up to the St. Louis pro. I do know what happened at the show before. I was in a healthier place in my life. I was fuller and tighter than ever. I had taken a 6 month break prior and was rejuvenated! I went into my San Diego show ready to win it (August 2013)! I hadn’t placed out of the top 3 in these southern California shows and was really excited for this particular show because it to me was my personal best.

The show went on and looked as if I was winning the show! RX Muscle at the time as well, was very confused when the final call outs came. I was dead center in pre judging and Finals (this usually means you won or are competing for 1st & 2nd).

Well, when the final names were called out for trophies, I didn’t even make the top 5 and went home empty handed. I was told I was too soft, my posing was off and you get the picture. I was so upset mainly because I felt as if I were being teased. The fact that I was in first call outs and battling for 1st&2nd place to go home empty handed was something I will never forget and I know the truth of how this was all played down now looking back and the ugly truth of people pre determining your placing to either please someone else or if someone is sending a message to an outsider.

Regardless, it was a very emotional time and was lied to by those I thought had my back in this sport. I then called my manager and one of the head judges of our organization and said, “what was it I did wrong?” Well they were just as upset as I was and said, I need to do a comeback to prove to myself I did nothing wrong and it was a horrible thing to do to a competitor.

I had never done a show outside the west coast and I said screw it let’s do it! This was the last show I could do to qualify me for the Olympia! SO I went on to do it and this show was stacked with beautiful IFBB pros and over 40 competitors. I kept positive and knew this show was my comeback. I remember doing sprints with tears rolling down my face because of how hurt I was from the show prior and knew St. Louis I would come back better than ever.

Not only did I do that I came in 2nd to one of the best physiques in our IFBB pro bikini organization – Justine Monroe. Who is a dear friend of mine to this day. Rounding out the top 5 in that show were actually my closest friends in our sport today. Jessica Arevalo 3rd, Brittney Tacy 4th… This was a realization moment for me that my time was soon coming to end and needed a big break from all of this. I than went on to compete at the 2013 Olympia immediately after this show.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Who has been your biggest influence and motivation in your path to success ?

Ms. Tiffany Boydston:

In one word my sis… Danitza Freigher… I met her during my second show at Sacramento Pro show (my hometown) and I swear since the first day she was sent to protect, guide and be my best friend. I call her my sis to this day because we are more than friends. She is my soul sister and really truly believes she was sent for me in my life as my angel. I have a few angels in my life and she is one of them. I never have met some one who is literally a walking super woman. She is caring, loving, hardworking and inspiring.

She is a mother of two gorgeous girls, a wife, has two full time jobs (in marketing and an exec. Asst), works out every day and still competes at 41! She to me makes me look at my days when I think I’m overwhelmed and say, “wow she truly is superwoman!” TO me this is motivational, inspiring and influential on those who always have excuses. I simply think of her and I dig deep!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Tell us about a memorable experience you still remember about one of the fitness competitions that you wish to share?

Ms. Tiffany Boydston:

My last show being the 2013 Olympia placing top 10! I knew this show was special. I knew that no matter what happened I was having fun! I made the decision a few weeks later after everything I had been through prior to this show that it was time for me to rest and recoup. I remember even seeing a clip after that show of all the girls backstage and I was running around dancing and laughing with all the girls!

It really took all the stress away and knowing that these are the best competitors in the world. NO matter what – we made it to this prestigious stage. I ended up placing top 10 in the world and to me this was such a great accomplishment. Also, that making the decision to take a break after this show was the right thing to do.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You at USA Bikini championships won 3rd place, at Sacramento Pro 2011 3rd place (olympia qualified), Tijuana Pro, IFBB Bikini Pro earned (Jr Nats) 1st place at Jr Nationals Chicago, 1st place at NPC Sacramento, 2nd at Place Border States San Diego and so on.. What additional responsibilities these winnings bestow upon you towards the community and the sports of professional bikini competitions you compete in?

Ms. Tiffany Boydston:

There were never any responsibilities we had to have. The one thing I did make sure is to share my passion and drive on how I was able to achieve this all in a short time. Having these winnings behind my name shows the determination and hard work I have had to do to achieve this. My community recognizes this and supports me as I continue my endeavors.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?

Ms. Tiffany Boydston:

When starting out any fitness goal stay true to yourself and personal goals. Never try to be a fitness model you see or famous person for that matter. Things aren’t always what they perceive and filters/airbrushing has been done to most photos. These women (including myself) all have flaws and things we work on daily. Really accept who you are and progress with small goals for yourself. Baby steps are key! I wish I could turn back the clock sometimes and really slowed down. I wish I would of just embraced most of my preps and shows.

Instead I was always rushing and pushing myself to the point of exhaustion. I really paid the price for it. I am pouring my heart out to you all and in hopes this will make you all understand it isn’t always what you see in the magazines and social media. We all struggle with insecurities, fogged mirrors and always second guess things. So know that we are just like you and have to work for our results. What you see takes years to accomplish so patience is key with all work put in. Remember, to stay authentic and true to yourself! That is so beautiful to see when you do! Beauty will ooze out of you when you are genuine and hardworking towards your goals!
