WF brings you inspiring words straight from the female athletes interviewed by our team, who fought through every challenge to rise and shine against all odds.

1. Gabrielle “Gabby” Daleman, Canadian figure skater & 2017 World bronze medalist “It’s ok to fall. It’s okay to fail. It’s not okay to give up. Failure is a part of the journey to winning. We all have moments where we face adversity and hardship and its one’s ability to persevere that make’s a champion. I have failed over and over again and that is why I succeed. It’s also important to dream and believe. You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them and if you put the work in, the results will come.”

2. Ellen Hoog (Field Hockey) “I think pleasure is the key to success. Work hard and enjoy every hour on the field. When you want to distinguish yourself from your teammates you have to spend more hours on the field to practice. But never forget to enjoy the time you spent on the pitch or the gym.”

3. Amanda Bisk ( Fitness and Yoga Expert)Stay true to you and your passion. Never feel like you have to look like someone else or do what they are doing. If you stick to what you believe in and the true person you are it can only lead you in the right direction.”

4. Mary Jepkosgei Keitany( long distance runner)In her words “Commitment, discipline, motivation and also to enjoy on the fatigue what you are building every day. Whatever is your goal. Having near you people that understand how important is what you are doing and supporting to achieve it. You don’t know how long your career is. Just have challenges in front of you and try to achieve it.” She is the world recorder holder in a women-only marathon, having won the 2017 London Marathon in a time of 2:17:01.

5. Emma Coburn, an American (middle distance runner): She specializes in the 3000 meter steeplechase. She became the World Champion in London 2017 on steeplechase 3000 metres in a time of 9.02.59, breaking her own American record. She believes in “Train hard, take care of your body, believe anything is possible!”

6. Tori Bowie (American athlete): “Always want more..be more..and expect more from yourself.” She further adds “We only have one body…and you should treat it like gold! Being healthy doesn’t mean the same to everyone. Do whatever makes YOU feel good and powerful!.. That’s healthy to me!”

7. Genevieve LaCaze: I live by the wise words of Steve Prefontaine – “to give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift”. She is an Australian athletic competitor who specializes in the 3000 metre steeplechase.

8. Laura Massaro (squash player): presently rated No. 5 “dedication day in, day out is hugely important. So is an attitude of never giving up and fighting to the last point. You never know what can happen. My motto is – You get out of life what you put in.”

9. Jamie Anderson (Snowboarder): She has this to say on inspiration, “Follow your passion! Whatever field you’re in if you really love what your doing you will excel! Have fun, be light, spread the light, stay in tune with yourself and your power and you can achieve anything you want!”

10. Michelle Carter (shot putter): “Work hard and never give up and think outside the box. Don’t let people box you in especially for a sport that women are not known to do. Muscles are beautiful, you are beautiful and your body is beautiful. Work with what you have and master it.”
