Women Fitness President Ms. Namita Nayyar had a candid interview with Cassandra Lang, winner of won Mrs. Arkansas 2018, Mrs. North Continent 2018, and Mrs. USA 2020 where she talks about her workout, diet, and success story.

Namita Nayyar:

You graduated with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree with top of the class in 2016 and also hold a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry. You loved competing in pageants. You have won Mrs. Arkansas 2018, Mrs. North Continent 2018, and then reached the pinnacle of success by becoming Mrs. USA 2020. Tell us something about this fairy tale journey?

Cassandra Lang:

I knew I wanted to be a pharmacist since I was 17. I love helping people and I was really good at chemistry and math. I grew up on a farm in rural Arkansas. My parents didn’t have a lot of money and I started doing pageants at a young age to win scholarships for college. I was the first member of my family to attend college.

After graduating and having my son, I wanted to get back into pageants to inspire mothers everywhere that they can still be beautiful after having a child and can still chase their dreams. I was blessed to win Mrs. Arkansas, then Mrs. North Continent Globe and finally Mrs. USA World of the Galaxies 2020.

Namita Nayyar:

You are an international model. You move from the United States to Europe and to Asia for your professional career. For a model adjusting to new countries with their own cultures, it must be difficult and then to adjust with modeling career in the new foreign land, what advice you can give to fellow models in a similar situation?

Cassandra Lang:

When I’m traveling to a new country, I research the culture, the language and the food. I love learning about new places and people so when I arrive I have a good understanding of their values and languages. I even try to learn enough of the language to attempt to speak to locals. You just have to embrace the culture and be adaptable. I recommend reading a book on the country you’re traveling too. I have dozens of Rick Steve’s Travel books and they are amazing.

Namita Nayyar:

You are pharmacist, personal trainer, wife, mum, international runway model, and currently Mrs. USA 2020! How do you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?

Cassandra Lang:

I am ‘on the go’ a lot with everything I’m involved with in my career. I work in the pharmacy weekly and then prep for runway shows in the spring and fall. My family travels with me to most photo shoots and runway shows so we get to spend time together and share those moments as a family.

Getting to fitness, tell us about your workout routine that you follow on a day-to-day basis with all that traveling?

Cassandra Lang:

Even with traveling, I always find a gym. I try to focus on muscle groups and I work each muscle group twice a week.  For example back and biceps on Mondays and Thursdays, Legs on Tuesdays and Fridays, then shoulders, chest and triceps on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I also incorporate some type of cardio at the end of my weight training sessions and lately my cardio has been boxing sessions.

Namita Nayyar:

An optimum balanced diet is a significant factor to look and feel your best. What is your diet routine while preparing for a competition or not. Foods you love to eat, would advise women to eat? 5 foods you avoid in your diet?

Cassandra Lang:

When I’m prepping for a shoot or a runway show, I stick to a high protein and low carb diet. I also watch sodium levels in my foods to reduce water retention and I avoid gluten-containing and dairy foods during prep. I love eating avocado. I make a lot fresh guacamole and salsa for healthy taco bowls.  I drink a lot of protein shakes; eat a lot of eggs, veggies, basmati rice and chicken. Five foods I never eat are 1) Soda, 2) Cereal, 3) Fruit Juices, 4) Frozen Meals, 5) Processed Foods.

Namita Nayyar:

Modeling as a career can be both demanding and stressful along with the glamour factor. How have you coped with that, do share five tips with upcoming models?

Cassandra Lang:

Modeling can be demanding with all the traveling, shows and maintaining a fit physique while looking glamorous all at once.

My Five tips are

1) Even if you have just flown 14 hours for Milan Fashion Week with no sleep, always show up with a smile and ready to work despite being tired.

2) Keep your social media clean. This can really hurt you in modeling and getting brands for representation.

3) Try to get signed with an agency.  My agency XLNT Models has booked me for so many shows and it helps take a lot of work and stress of you as a model.

4) Be yourself and have confidence even if you have to model a clothing item that’s completely not you.

5) Network, Network, Network.  This will only help build your brand and always have your comp card ready to hand out.

Namita Nayyar:

Health Supplements you take and feel are important?

Cassandra Lang:

I don’t take a lot of supplements but I do take BCAAs which help build muscle and whey protein. I also take elderberry, vitamin C and a multivitamin for overall health and immunity. The best supplement is water. I try to drink a gallon of water each day.

Namita Nayyar:

With your flawless skin & shining hair, share with us your daily skin & hair care routine?

Cassandra Lang:

I love make up and skin care but I don’t wear a lot of make-up.  I use a daily hydration serum from Ciate London brand, No More Bags from Dr. Brandt’s, and Murad Night Cream. My favourite make up brands are Huda Beauty, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Morphe, Too Faced Cosmetics, and Kylie Cosmetics. I also get my lashes done and use Olaplex treatments on my hair.

Namita Nayyar:

Now after becoming Mrs. USA 2020, what social issues do you wish to work upon?

Cassandra Lang:

The world is a very complex place today. As Mrs. USA, I want to work promoting unity among our people and sharing love to everyone. I hope to inspire women especially moms to get involved in their communities and let their voices be heard.

I want to work with low-income and minority families to help their children get an education and have opportunities for college rather than be creating scholarships or just making sure they have school supplies and lunches. I plan to do a lot of charity work for this social issue.

Namita Nayyar:

Five things we will always find in your gym bag?

Cassandra Lang:
  1. Water Bottle, 2) Hair Tie, 3) Body Mist, 4) BCAAs, 5) Sugar FREE Red Bull

Namita Nayyar:

You have done bold photo shoots in the April 2020 issue of MAXIM Australia and many others. How you are so body confident and advice to your compatriots?

Cassandra Lang:

In April 2020, Maxim named me their Woman of the World and I received a double feature in Maxim Australia and Maxim New Zealand. This honour was a dream comes true for me. I’ve wanted to be in Maxim since I was a little girl.

I’m a mother and my body changed in many ways after having my baby boy. I wanted to be in Maxim to show moms that they should embrace their body changes postpartum and that they can still be sexy and fit as a mother. Love yourself, accept yourself and the confidence will be there.

Namita Nayyar:

Top three travel destinations that you absolutely love?

Cassandra Lang:

1) Europe, 2) Bora Bora, 3) The Bahamas

Namita Nayyar:

What do you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?

Cassandra Lang:

I think the message is so true for everyone.  Hard work will get you to your goals and dreams despite where you came from or what you’ve been through in life. Set a goal and don’t take no for answer. Never give up because someone will say yes if you work long and hard enough.

Namita Nayyar:

A message for all your lovely fans and followers on Instagram?

Cassandra Lang:

Thanks to all my loyal fans that have followed my journey over the years.  I hope to inspire each of you to challenge yourself and make your dreams come true. Always remember to spread love not hate.
