Playboy Model Dana Taylor Agrees That “Life is All About Balance”

Dana Taylor

An all-American beauty with a wide smile, Dana Taylor has walked the catwalk for designers like Monique Lhuillier, Adam Selman and Dior Cruise. In July 2017, she landed on the cover of Playboy magazine in what was dubbed “The Adventure Issue.” She grew up in the Chicago suburb Downers Grove. She aspired to become a model at an early age, staging fictional runway events in her driveway.

You can check out Dana Taylor is in conversation with Namita Nayyar, President, Women Fitness.

As mentioned by you “When I was first asked, ‘Are you calling the right number?’ was your first reaction when you discovered that you have been chosen as a Playmate? Why did it look unbelievable?

Dana Taylor

I had always seen myself as a fashion runway girl. I never thought my career would transition into the sexy swim commercial girl. Then it slowly hit me, I was. When I was younger, I was always envious of playmates or the girl next door. I thought to myself that they have confidence and poise through the roof. They also had a strong image of what they wanted to project as a woman. So, realizing that I was about to become a playmate, was surreal. I had to step back, take a deep breath, and try to digest that this was happening. I was overwhelmed and excited! It did not seem real until the magazine came out and I saw myself on the cover.

The best part about being in the modeling industry?

Dana Taylor

My favourite part is getting to travel to exotic places around the world. I never imagined I would see such amazing sights, meet so many wonderful people, and experience so much of our world’s history and cultures.

What is your workout routine like?

Dana Taylor

I work out 4 to 5 times a week normally, sometimes more. I love to do interval training, kickboxing, and weight training. I’ll throw in a spin class here or there to kick up the cardio. Since I ice-skated for years when I was younger, I still like to hit the ice rink on occasion.

Namita Nayyar

A healthy breakfast for you includes? What do you like to have for dinner? And on the weekends?

Dana Taylor

I usually have eggs or oatmeal with fruit for breakfast. I feel like it keeps my energy up all morning long. Dinner is usually some combination of a protein, grain, and a vegetable. I like to eat something like a sweet potato, lean turkey, and some quinoa with broccoli on the side. On the weekend I meet up with friends and do dinners, so I splurge a bit more. Life is about balance!

Namita Nayyar

Name your all-time favorite fashion model?

Dana Taylor

This is a hard one to answer. There are so many gorgeous women, but if I had to pick one it would be Christie Turlington.

Namita Nayyar

What is your most favorite body part to train? And how do you train it?

Dana Taylor

I like to work on my abs and lower body, focusing mostly on the booty.  For my abs, the moves I like are body saws and plank variations. My favorite move lately has been kettlebell leg lowers. For the booty, I love lunges, squats, deadlifts of all kinds, and resistance bands until you can’t handle the burn anymore.

Namita Nayyar

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Dana Taylor

Outgoing, spontaneous, caring.

Namita Nayyar

What’s your reaction on “body shaming” becoming popular among teenagers?

Dana Taylor

This makes me sad to know it’s happening and is such a relevant topic.  When I was growing up, I was bullied and picked on. I was always very tall and super skinny, so the girls would make fun of me. I have always stuck up for the underdog, it is not cool to make fun of anyone for any reason. Now with social media, I think it has got worse. Everybody sees something that’s not always realistic and if you don’t fit that your being shamed. Everybody is born unique and different and that’s the beauty of it. We all need to look in the mirror and appreciate who we are and know everyone is beautiful in their own ways. There is no normal or standard so be you and love yourself. Stand up for yourself and who you are.

Namita Nayyar

What’s a day off look like?

Dana Taylor

A day off definitely involves sleeping in a bit. I go work out, run some errands, then try to meet up with some friends. My friends and I usually walk around the city for the most part just being social butterflies. Probably includes going to a pool or a group get-together for a dinner.

Namita Nayyar

Your favorite activewear brands are?

Dana Taylor

Alo activewear, Outdoor Voices, Lululemon, and Carbon38.

Namita Nayyar

Social media channel you look up to? What do you love the most about it?

Dana Taylor

I use Instagram. I like how you can capture an actual moment of your life and tell a small story. I like that I can connect with my fans and show them my true self. I feel I get to express my personality there.

Namita Nayyar

Best memory from your first ever photo-shoot.

Dana Taylor

I was so excited to be picked to do a photo-shoot it seemed unreal. Getting my hair and makeup done to model a designer’s clothes was incredible. The most exciting part of the shoot was seeing the first pictures of myself and in the end, knowing that I can really do this and that was me. That was the moment I realized that it had all come together with the help of the team. It was such a great experience. I felt so proud of myself.

Namita Nayyar

Your morning beauty ritual before a photoshoot? Your hair care routine includes.

Dana Taylor

Usually, before a shoot, we are told to show up with clean hair and a clean face. Before the shoot, I wash my hair, put a conditioning treatment on it and then apply a heat protector to have it ready to be styled. I’ve had a lot of heat on my hair from shoots, so I try to not blow dry my hair to prevent more damage. As far as my face I just wash it and make sure I use a good moisturizer and then I am ready to go out the door to work.

Namita Nayyar

After a long hard-working day, you relax with?

Dana Taylor

After a long work day, I usually still try to get a workout in. It helps me relax and destress after a long shoot day. I head home, get comfy on the couch with my boyfriend, order some good food and put on a movie or murder mystery series. I’m currently watching Castle Rock, if you haven’t seen it, you should.

Namita Nayyar

Five things that are a must in your gym bag?

Dana Taylor
Namita Nayyar

3 songs that are on top of your workout playlist?

Namita Nayyar

If not a model, what would you be?

Dana Taylor

I have always been fascinated by the human body. I would love to be in the medical field and study the body to its fullest. Possibly, a plastic surgeon. I want to help people feel good about themselves and work on disfigurement cases.

Namita Nayyar

3 Best destinations you have shot at. And, 3 you wish to shoot at?

Dana Taylor

This is really a hard one since I have been so many wonderful places. The 3 best destinations were the Bahamas, Capri, and Buenos Aires. The other places I would like to shoot at would be Bali, Morocco, and Capetown.

Namita Nayyar
