The 70’s Hairstyles Rock at the Met Gala 2021

Celebrities finally made their return to the Met Gala on Sept. 13 after a short hiatus and considering all of the show-stopping beauty looks that took over the red carpet upon their arrivals, we’d say that the year-long wait was well worth it.

While many stars used this as an opportunity to wear throwback hairstyles like the flipped bob, pinup bangs, and disco hair to pay homage to specific decades. At the Met Gala, voluminous ’70s hairstyles that resemble the musical icons made their way onto the red carpet.

First up is our lovely host Keke Palmer. Palmer arrived in a bedazzled black dress with it giving Diana Ross look with her hair giving a textured volume. We love the layers in the hair and how it falls a few inches below Palmer’s shoulders. It pairs well with her smoky makeup and dark long-sleeve dress.

Taraji P. Henson shows another way to emulate Diana Ross’s style with this big hair on the red carpet. The deep side part pairs well with the big curls sprouting from her head. These curls are more defined than Palmer’s, and this hair stops right around Henson’s shoulders. The sparkly, bejeweled jumpsuit and shimmery eye shadow complete this disco look.

But it doesn’t stop there. Kehlani also stepped onto the red carpet looking like a disco dream with this two-piece silver jumpsuit. To complement the one-piece, hairstylist Kahh Spence gave them a Farrah Fawcett-inspired haircut, bumped perfectly at the ends. The layered cut and bangs are full of volume and bounce.

It doesn’t seem that the ’70s nostalgia will be going away anytime soon, and we’re not mad at it. The decade is full of amazing beauty moments, and who doesn’t love big, voluminous hair?
