Charlize Theron Health, Diet, Fitness Unveiled

– Reported, November 06, 2012

Charlize Theron was born on 7 August 1975, is a South African actress and fashion model. She started her acting career in the United States and rose to fame in the late 1990s following roles in The Devil’s Advocate , Mighty Joe Young , and The Cider House Rules . Theron won the Academy Award for Best Actress and Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Drama for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster , becoming the first South African to win an Academy Award in a major acting category.
She received further Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for her performance in North Country in 2005, and a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in Young Adult in 2011. In 2012 she appeared in Snow White & the Huntsman and Prometheus. Theron became a US citizen in 2007, while retaining her South African citizenship.

Charlize Theron is a world-renowned actress dedicated to her diverse film roles and incredibly devoted to her intense workouts, too.

From struttin’ red carpets worldwide to stunning TV audiences in her oh-so-sexy Dior commercial campaigns, Theron is clearly one gorgeous woman with the most sensational, svelte figure to match.

But behind most fabulous figures in Hollywood is an equally as fabulous trainer. Meet powerhouse fitness expert Fedele De Santis, owner of The Gym on Nemo, where one might spot hot bods like Jessica Biel, Cameron Diaz, Eva Mendes, and Ms. Theron herself.

De Santis, who has worked with the South African stunner for more than two years, trains all his female clients to look like ballerinas with long, lean, strong and beautiful bodies.

“Charlize is an extremely serious, focused, professional, no BS, balls-to-the-wall client,” De Santis says. “She is so tenacious — my nickname for her is thundercat!”

The secret to a beautiful ballerina body like Theron? “Make sure your grip for every exercise is narrow. A wide grip makes the muscles grow wide and your body more masculine,” De Santis says.

When it comes to diet, De Santis advises to slowly lower your calories and focus on proteins, vegetables, and dark-colored fruits and greens. Make sure everything you eat is clean and organic, and stay away from fried foods, bread, rice, and pasta, as well.

“A lot of women make the mistake of changing their diet too quickly —in one day. Lower your calories slowly so you can avoid causing emotional and mental trauma to yourself,” recommends De Santis. “As long as you don’t reduce your calories too suddenly, your body will acclimate, your stomach will adjust, and you’ll get to your goal easier.”

From Hollywood, Fla., to Hollywood, Calif., De Santis’ wealth of experience and fitness expertise definitely shows in the famous fit females he trains.

“Being a personal trainer has given me so many opportunities to help bring others not only better health, but peace of mind. This is the true success of what I do,” he says. “If you’re not having fun, it ain’t worth it!”

That’s why we were thrilled when De Santis shared with us Theron’s leading lady workout so we too can get our bodies in beautiful ballerina shape.

Oscar winner Charlize Theron famously gained and quickly lost 30 pounds for the 2003 drama Monster, but admits she has to watch her diet carefully and work out a lot to stay in shape.

“I’m sure there are women who never have to worry about what they eat, but I do,” Theron tells UK Vogue. “I exercise a lot, and I hike a lot. My mom and I hike at least three times a week.”

The leggy, 5′ 9½” South African stunner says she never made it big in modeling because she wasn’t skinny enough.

“I was too tall, too big, too late for the supermodel look of the ’80s,” recalls Charlize. “Kate Moss and all the tiny, grungy girls had just become fashionable, and I didn’t fit the bill.”

Theron, who has been the face of Chanel since 2004, is having the last laugh, as she now regularly lands on “most beautiful women” lists. While Charlize, 36, continues to maintain her position on the Hollywood A-list, she has a new role that brings her a lot more joy: being a mom.

The single Theron, who adopted an African-American baby named Jackson in March 2012, says motherhood was always part of her plan.

“I’ve always been very honest in saying I wanted a family,” she says. “I’ve always known I wanted a family. I don’t think my mom could wait any more! Jackson is incredible, the greatest gift. He is the coolest kid ever.”

Charlize wants to be a parent like her own mom, Gerda.

“I hope to be like my mom: Fair, tough, loving and supportive,” says Theron. “My mom has made it possible for me to be who I am. Our family is everything. Her greatest skill was encouraging me to find my own person and own independence.”

While filming Æon Flux in Berlin, Germany, Theron suffered a herniated disc in her neck, which occurred as a result of her suffering a fall while filming a series of back handsprings. This required her to wear a neck brace for a month. In July 2009, Theron was diagnosed with a serious stomach virus, thought to be contracted while travelling outside the United States. When filming The Road, Theron injured her vocal cords during the labor screaming scenes.
Charlize Theron over her career she has been an actress and film producer. What’s interesting is that at the age of 16 Theron ventured to Milan to pursue a modeling career. She later flew to New York to seek out the help of Pauline’s Model Management. Charlize transitioned her career and rose to stardom in the late 90’s with acting roles in Two Days In The Valley, Mighty Joe Young, The Devil’s Advocate and The Cider House Rules. The actress won an Academy Award for her role of the serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the movie Monster. She also received an Academy nomination for her role in North Country.

The 2005 sci-fi flick Aeon Flux, directed by Karyn Kusama shows Theron as the lead character that was adapted from the television series. The action movie produced over 52 million dollars in worldwide sales and over 31 million in home rentals. In the movie, Theron has to wear a skin-tight suit leaving no room for excess body fat. The actress needed to develop the leanest and most muscular physique possible to suit the role well. The movie also called for her to perform a lot of acrobatic fighting moves. To get her body ready for the appearance and challenges she turned to Cirque Du Soleil performer, Terry Bartlett to acquire some gymnastic moves. The performer and trainer reported that after her first day of training she was already doing back handsprings. The stunning actress lost the 30 pounds that she had to put on for her previous movie, Monster during the gymnastic training.

Charlize and her gymnastic trainer, Terry Bartlett workout out three hours a day for three months to prep are for the Aeon Flux lead role. Her body quickly trimmed down from the intense acrobatic training. Her trainer reported that after two weeks of training she had to get a smaller flying harness due to her fast weight loss. She also received assistance from another trainer in Los Angeles who designed trampoline drills, hand to hand combat techniques and Brazilian capoeira exercises. For the capoeira drills she also learned from master instructor, Neal Xingu Rodil. Charlize’s previous dancing skills paid off during the intense Brazilian exercises.

The Aeon Flux actress went on a high protein, lower carbohydrate diet to look lean and mean in the skin-tight suit that she had to wear in the movie. Her foods included fruits and vegetables and what’s interesting is that she is a semi-vegetarian, which means that she occasionally eats chicken. Because of the limited meats, her protein came from nuts, seeds and dairy food sources. Her nutritionist, Jackie Keller reported that she consumed six meals a day spread out every few hours. Keller goes on to inform that Theron’s only avoided vegetable was beets. A few of Charlize’s favorite diet dishes include vegetable lasagna, grilled spinach quesadillas, and mushroom and ricotta stuffed pasta. It’s no doubt that her partially vegetarian diet helped her to look amazing in the action thriller movie.

Charlize has always remained active throughout her life being a dancer, model, and avid exerciser. Not only did she look stunning in the Aeon Flux movie, but also continues to become an object of beauty in each of her movie roles. I find it quite interesting that the non-traditional gymnastics workouts helped trim the actress’ physique rather than weights and cardio exercises. Her training program goes to show that there is a wide variety of training methods you can use to reach your body fat reduction goals. Movie fans everywhere are sure to look for the actress’ next movie appearance to catch a glimpse of her phenomenal physique.
