Britney Spears Fitness Secrets out !!!: Trainer Derek DeGrazio

– Reported, November 06, 2012

“I trained Britney like an athlete,” celebrity trainer Derek DeGrazio said in a recent interview with San Jose Fitness Examiner.

It makes sense, knowing that Britney Spears travels in a demanding, high-energy whirlwind that puts her under constant, and often cutting, commentary about her body.

DeGrazio, who has helped sculpt the bodies of Britney Spears and Kim Kardashian, recently took time from his busy schedule for an email interview with Examiner.com, and was very practical when asked for three tips that he had Britney Spears doing that the rest of us could learn from.

DeGrazio is also a trainer on CoachClub and has exercises posted there to demonstrate how to do the exercises properly, but he shared these three insights which he incorporated into Spears’ workout when he traveled with the 2011 Femme Fatale tour.

During tour I trained Britney like an athlete. With her long show schedule, it was important to prepare her to perform for 90 minutes a night, similar to how an athlete prepares for a game. We worked out daily, alternating high and low-intensity days.

High-intensity days would include interval sprints on the treadmill, and full-body strength training exercises using dumbbells and medicine balls. Low-intensity days would be light jogs on the treadmill, and yoga or Pilates for lengthening and flexibility. This mix of high and low-intensity shocks the body resulting in a more toned and sculpted figure. This mix also gave her body time to recover, so she could perform at her best.

I made her a protein shake after each workout. I would use 100% whey protein, glutamine, fresh fruits and some additional healthy ingredients to complete my secret sauce. Fueling the body with the correct nutrients after a workout is essential for muscle toning, recovery and increased metabolism.

We would have one cheat day per week. We maintained a very healthy diet six days a week, consuming lean proteins, fresh greens and fruits, but rewarding yourself is a really important part of having a fitness regimen that you can keep up over time. One day a week, Britney would get a cheat day as a reward for her hard work.
