Princess Eugenie: Who Dares to Live Life of a Commoner

Princess Eugenie: Who Dares to Live Life of a CommonerPrincess Eugenie has certainly upped her style game since moving to New York City. The young royal has been spotted out and about over the last couple of weeks looking pretty darn good. The princess was pretty in a blue mini, black t-shirt, blazer, cute tartan satchel and over-the-knee boots! Over. The. Knee. Boots. That's pretty damn out there for a high society gal, no? Genie was papped as she grabbed a spot of lunch at Big Apple eatery Dean & Deluca, chatting away on her phone. She's certainly slotted into NCY life rather seamlessly. Genie hotfooted it over the pond to start work at Paddle8 - an auction house owned by Alexander Gilkes. This isn't just any old auction house. Gilkes is an ex-Etonian who is good pals with Princes William and Harry AND the Middleton family.

Princess Eugenie of York was born on 23rd March 1990. She is the younger daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York. As such she is seventh, and the second female, in the line of succession to the thrones of the 16 Commonwealth realms. Her first royal engagement was opening Teenage Cancer Trust's unit for young cancer patients in Leeds on 23 October 2008. She also makes appearances with the royal family at events, such as when she and her sister, Princess Beatrice, represented their father at a service of thanksgiving for her aunt, Diana, Princess of Wales, in 2007.

Princess Eugenie was born in London at the Portland Hospital on 23 March 1990, the second child of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York, and sixth grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. She is also a distant cousin of her late aunt Diana, Princess of Wales, whose father was John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer, since Eugenie's mother Sarah, Duchess of York is a direct descendant of Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire, daughter of John Spencer, 1st Earl Spencer, (via Georgiana's illegitimate daughter Eliza Courtney).

On the seventh day after her birth it was announced on 30th March that the Duke and Duchess of York had named the princess Eugenie Victoria Helena. She was baptised at the Church of St Mary Magdalene, Sandringham, by the Bishop of Norwich, on 23 December 1990. She was the first royal baby to have a public christening, and her godparents were James Ogilvy (her father's second cousin), Captain Alastair Ross (who was unable to attend), Mrs. Ronald Ferguson (her maternal grandfather's 2nd wife), Mrs. Patrick Dodd-Noble, and Miss Louise Blacker. She was named after Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg and Princess Helena, Queen Victoria's granddaughter and daughter respectively. She and her sister are the only granddaughters of the Queen to hold the title of Princess of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the style Her Royal Highness: their cousin, Lady Louise Windsor is styled as the daughter of an earl at the request of the Queen and her parents; their other female first cousin, Zara Phillips, is the Queen's granddaughter through the female line, therefore allowing her only the title and style of her father, who has none.

Eugenie is also the first British Princess since her grandmother's aunt, Princess Victoria Alexandra Alice Mary (known as Princess Mary), to bear the name Victoria; Queen Victoria had requested that her female descendants bear the name Victoria somewhere in their name, however neither the Queen, the late Princess Margaret, Princess Alexandra, Princess Anne, nor Princess Beatrice hold the name Victoria.

Princess Eugenie's parents divorced when she was six years old. When she was not at school, her time was spent with her family, as the divorce had been amicable and the Duke and Duchess of York had agreed to joint custody of the girls. Eugenie and her sister frequently travel abroad with one or both of their parents. In the April 2008 issue of Tatler, Eugenie described her grandmother as "one of the most amazing women ever", and her parents as "the best divorced couple" she knew.

In October 2002, 12-year-old Eugenie underwent back surgery at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London to correct scoliosis. She still has the two titanium rods in her back that were put in place in 2002. She made a full recovery and is not expected to undergo any further surgery for the condition. When Princess Eugenie turned 17, she underwent orthodontic treatment, like her sister. She had her orthodontic appliances on for two years before they were taken off.

Princess Eugenie: Who Dares to Live Life of a CommonerEugenie began her schooling at Winkfield Montessori from 1992 to 1993. From there she joined her sister at Upton House School in Windsor until 1995. She attended Coworth Park School from 1995 to 2001, and then St George's School, near Windsor Castle until 2003. For the next five years, Eugenie boarded at Marlborough College in Wiltshire. She undertook a gap year before continuing her education in 2009. Eugenie began studying Combined Honours BA at Newcastle University in September 2009, combining Art History, English Literature and Politics. She completed her studies in 2012, earning a 2:1 in English literature and history of art.

Princess Eugenie has undertaken limited public duties as her university studies took precedence. She often performs engagements connected with charities her mother supports, including the Teenage Cancer Trust. As a member of the British Royal Family, Princess Eugenie is frequently seen at important Royal events, such as the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony in London.

On 2 June 2011, Princess Eugenie visited the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital with her father as one of her first official engagements. In April 2012 she signed on to be patron for the Hospital's Redevelopment Appeal; this was her first official patronage. In early 2013, Princess Eugenie with her sister Princess Beatrice visited Berlin and Hanover in Germany to undertake a series of engagements. These included representing the Queen at the reopening of the former Hanoverian royal palace, the Schloss Herrenhausen, on 18 January. It was bombed by the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.

While the announcement of the Princess's name as Eugenie was made on the seventh day after her birth, she was from birth a British princess entitled to the style of Royal Highness. Her style and title in full is: Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie Victoria Helena of York. As with the other male-line grandchildren of Elizabeth II, she uses the territorial designation of the area over which her father holds title, i.e. York (as Prince Harry who is formally Prince Henry of Wales uses Wales, per his father, Prince Charles, Prince of Wales).

When a twenty-something moves to New York City to pursue a career in the art world, it's only a matter of time before he or she becomes a hipster... and princesses are no exception. Princess Eugenie has been working in the city at art auction house Paddle8 for a hot second, and she's already sporting the ultimate in trendster gear: a bowler hat. We spotted the 23-year-old royal on her way to grab lunch yesterday wearing a black and grey ensemble, complete with Rag & Bone booties and the aforementioned headgear.

Princess Eugenie recently made news when she and her boarding school classmates stripped down and frolicked naked on the school lawn. Apparently the stress of finals got to the group of girls, who woke up a senior staff member with their shrieks of fun. No boys or drugs were present for the streaking. Eugenie was verbally reprimanded and told not to stay at the school on weekends.

On her 18th birthday, Princess Eugenie did a photo and cover shoot for Tatler magazine. It was her first official portrait. In the magazine, she revealed that her Supergran, Queen Elizabeth II, is awesome:Truly one of the most amazing women ever. She is also very funny?.All I can say is that she has this air of magic about her. And she is incredibly wise. What doesnt she know?!

Princess Eugenie has been living in New York City for the past few months, working for New York-based art auction house Paddle8 and enjoying the best the metropolis has to offer: pizza, Lululemon, hipster clothing... and now, courtside seats at the Knicks game.

The royal was spotted on Saturday night watching the New York Knicks beat the Atlanta Hawks at Madison Square Garden. Eugenie sat in the best seats in the house alongside Michelle Trachtenberg, Michael K. Williams and Christie Brinkley, although from the looks of it, Eugenie didn't seem to be pals with any of them.

Instead, she looked like many Brits probably look at NBA games: slightly confused. But at least she dressed the part in head-to-toe black with a luxe quilted mini-bag. Plus, maybe she got friendly with the supermodel in her row.

Princess Eugenie: Who Dares to Live Life of a CommonerThey say the women of New York are matched only by Parisian ladies when it comes to fashion and grooming. And it seems Princess Eugenie has upped the style stakes since moving to the Big Apple a few months ago. The 23-year-old royal was seen looking the picture of elegance as she joined a host of celebrities at the Dolce & Gabbana 19th Annual Artwalk last night.

Wearing a tailored black knee-length coat to protect her from the autumnal chill, Eugenie looked happy and confident as she strolled out of the party. The princess teamed the coat with Rag & Bone ankle boots and black tights, a soft black scarf, and rather edgy black bowler hat. She kept her shoulder-length auburn hair loose under the hat and carried a dark brown leather satchel bag over one shoulder. As is Eugenie's style, her make-up was simple, with just a touch of eyeliner and mascara to bring out her eyes.

She only moved to New York last month but Princess Eugenie is already acting like a local. The Princess of York popped out for pizza in Little Italy with a co-worker from art auction house Paddle8 on Friday and looked just like any other New Yorker. The chic royal wore a black dress and tan leather jacket which she accessorised with black ankle boots and a colourful scarf.

As the temperatures drop in New York it was necessary for Eugenie to complete her outfit with black tights but the royal didnt appear to be feeling the chill as she strolled along the street with her co-worker. She appears to be enjoying her new life in the Big Apple and happily chatted and laughed with her friend. She wasnt too posh to carry the pizza as the duo made their way along the city streets.

Princess Eugenie moved to New York to start work at the trendy auction house co-founded by one of Princes William and Harrys multi-millionaire old school pals, Alexander Gilkes.
Although she has had to leave behind her Stowe-educated boyfriend Jack Brooksbank, who works in the gastro-pub trade, the two plan to commute whenever possible.
Since leaving university Eugenie has been committed to working in the arts world and has done some internships but is now set to take on a permanent role at graduate level, a friend of the Duchess of York previously told the Mail's Richard Kay.

Eugenie got a degree in Art History and English Literature at Newcastle University and will work in New York before returning to London to help set up Paddle 8 in the UK. She has already done a stint at auction house Christies, where her cousin Viscount Linley is chairman. She has also worked at the Royal Collection in Buckingham Palace, where she won praise after queuing and joining fellow workers in the canteen there.

The 23-year-old graduate has been spotted out and about with her new boss Alexander, 34, the dashing Old Etonian brother of London nightclub entrepreneur Charlie Gilkes.
Both Alexander and Charlie were invited to Prince Williams wedding to Kate Middleton in April 2011 and Eugenie is a firm fixture in the same social circle, attending Alexanders lavish nuptials to stunning fashion designer Misha Nonoo in Venice last year.

Alexanders links to the Royals go back to his school days at Eton. His older brother Charlie is a firm friend of Prince William and dated the Duchess of Cambridges sister Pippa after they were both students at Edinburgh Univeristy. Charlie, who founded London nightspots Maggies and Kitts, was even spotted on board a barge, the Spirit of Chartwell, alongside the Middletons during the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant to celebrate the Queens Jubilee in 2012. And Eugenie, alongside her older sister Beatrice were in attendance at Alexander and Misha's wedding last year, a three-day affair that saw the couple get hitched at the Forte di SantAndrea, a 16th-century island fort that had once guarded Venice and had before never been used for a private event - for which they had to obtain permission from the mayor of Venice.

And so, we can only imagine how the conversation went down during the Duke's dinner date with his daughter Eugenie last night. The pair took some time out of their busy schedules to enjoy some quality father daughter time together, opting to dine at the celebrity hotspot ABC Kitchen in new York. Both parties both dressed up for the occasion, with Eugenie showing off her pins in a silky purple dress and Andrew opting for a navy suit and matching purple tie.

Princess Eugenie: Who Dares to Live Life of a Commoner23-year-old Eugenie looked every inch the stylish royal as she teamed her thigh-skimming dress with a pair of black ankle boots and an edgy leather jacket. She wore her locks in a sleek bob and opted or minimal make up. After being spotted shopping with her mother earlier in the day, it seems as though Eugenie is keeping up with appearances with the family since moving stateside to earn her stripes in the art world.

Meanwhile, her mother Sarah has hinted that she might remarry her ex-husband, revealing that she still see's him as her "handsome Prince. The couple have always remained close since their public divorce seven years ago, after insisting that they would remain a stable family unit for their daughters Beatrice and Eugenie. And during an appearance at a literary festival earlier this week, Sarah refused to deny rumours that they were getting back together.

"He'll always be my handsome prince," she said. "It's really lovely that we are still a family and the story has a happy ending all the time." The two ladies showed their support at the Charity: Water Gala to benefit the organisation that aims to bring safe drinking water to every person on the planet, and they certainly made an effort for the occasion.

Princess Beatrice, 25, looked lovely in a bright green long-sleeved dress which featured a structured bodice and flared box-pleat skirt. The redhead teamed the colourful garment with thick black tights and patent Mary Jane heels as she posed for photos alongside her 31-year-old businessman boyfriend Dave Clarke. Princess Beatrice is clearly a fan of the green dress as she's already worn it in public once before - when in Berlin for the Great Campaign in January this year.

The royal clearly wasn't bothered about recycling the knee-length garment and was amongst the 14 host committee chairs, which included Toms shoes founder Blake Mycoskie, for the event at the Duggal Greenhouse in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. It meant she was reunited with her 23-year-old sister, who moved to the US earlier this year.

Eugenie had also dressed up for the event and wore a black lace dress with bright red lipstick and black tights and matching heels.
