Lara Kerner on Music, Fitness, and Living Without Limits

Lara Kerner makes music with a rare universality—shaped by life across Europe, the US, Africa, and now the UK, and grounded in a fearless commitment to truth.

Lara Kerner crafts acoustic, folk, and pop-infused music that resonates on a deeply human level. Moving between London and her roots, her work—like her original track “My Destiny”—weaves personal storytelling into sweeping, universally relatable melodies.

Born and raised in France, Lara’s path spans real athletic rigor—competitive skiing and swimming, off‑piste glacier runs, tennis, horse riding, combat sports, dance, and yoga—alongside serious scholarship, holding a Master’s in Finance and an engineering degree in computer science. Uniquely multi-faceted, she is also a trained actress, bringing dramatic depth, psychological clarity, and a powerful screen presence to her visual work. She also channeled her love of style into launching her own fashion line before COVID, and she moves easily between high fashion, sportswear, and street wear—always with intent, always herself.

Lara writes, acts, and performs from a place of attunement rather than ornament. She trusts sixth sense, presence, and emotional clarity—qualities that make women resilient, adaptable, and strong. When she speaks, acts, or sings, she lets energy move through her as a channel: unforced, unvarnished, and precise to the moment. The result is modern pop grandeur with sweep and polish, delivered with straight‑to‑the‑vein honesty.

Her forthcoming single, “Crave For You,” captures this dual force—clarity with fire—opening a run of songs that pair the drive of “No Limits” with the raw candor of “Sorry.” In a niche‑driven world, Lara is carving out a space where music, acting, and physical mastery meet, creating a sound and visual identity that feels at once present and timeless.

If you’re looking for authenticity, Lara Kerner doesn’t perform it—she channels it.

Women Fitness President Ms. Namita Nayyar catches up with Lara Kerner – an exceptionally talented and accomplished multi-faceted, trained actress and a singer-songwriter. Here she talks about her fitness and her success journey.

Namita Nayyar:

You’ve said that you don’t “perform” authenticity—you channel it. For someone who has lived across France, the US, Africa, and now the UK, how did those geographic and cultural shifts teach you to trust your sixth sense over external validation?

Lara Kerner:

“I have trusted a fierce, innate sixth sense since childhood; I was never wired to blindly follow the crowd. Growing up in France instilled in me our distinct cultural critical thinking—we are taught from a very young age to dissect ideas, questioning their veracity and deeper purpose before accepting them.

My time in the United States expanded my horizon; I deeply resonated with an American culture that permits you to dream without limits and actively champions individuals with a bold, uncompromising vision. Moving to Africa presented a beautiful, contrasting reality.

In many communities there, social cohesion relies heavily on preserving reputation, sometimes causing individuals to shape their lives around external expectations without questioning the core purpose. Yet, what completely captivated me about Africa was its beautifully non-rational, mystical essence—a world where reality feels fluid, almost waiting to be bent by intent.

Living across these continents proved to me that every culture holds its own striking truth, each with its unique brilliance and inherent downsides. Ultimately, we must anchor ourselves in our own intuition and authentic needs. What is right for me may be wrong for someone else. If you build a life that defies your own internal compass, you will never truly be at ease.”

Namita Nayyar:

You describe your creative process as “attunement rather than ornament.” What does a typical writing or recording session look like when you’re letting energy move through you unforced?

Lara Kerner:

“For me, songwriting is rarely a calculated or scheduled event; it happens through an imperious impulse—an urgent necessity to capture a fleeting moment or a surge of raw emotion. It feels as though, for a brief window of time, I am being handed the keys to capture pure light. Because this energy is so visceral, it can strike anywhere and at any time. It might be triggered by a personal catalyst that deeply affected me, or a universal event that touched my soul.

Consequently, my ‘writing sessions’ are entirely unpredictable. You might see me on the London Underground, completely locked in a state of intense, hyper-focus, furiously typing lyrics into my phone notes. When that channel opens, the delivery is incredibly precise to the moment; I can easily write an entire song from start to finish in five to ten minutes.”

Namita Nayyar:

With training in acting, finance, computer science engineering, and fashion, how do you silence the analytical mind to access that raw, emotional clarity when you step on stage or in front of a camera?

Lara Kerner:

“I have always been deeply intuitive and profoundly in touch with my emotions. Even back in primary school, I was a quiet, reserved child who found it difficult to navigate the everyday social landscape, yet the moment I stepped onto a stage to recite a poem, sing a song, or portray a character, I felt an absolute, unshakeable sense of belonging.

My scientific and analytical background doesn’t fight my creativity; instead, it serves as a grounding mechanism. It provides an unexpected emotional clarity. What I appreciate about mathematics and finance is the absolute lack of deceit—when something is structurally true, it is true; when it is wrong, it is wrong. There is a clean, comforting simplicity to that logic. Yet, when it comes to the pivotal turning points in my life and my art, I will always let my heart and intuition makes the final decision. Rationality sets the stage, but intuition takes the leap.”

Namita Nayyar:

Your new single “Crave For You” is described as “clarity with fire.” What was the specific emotional ignition point for that track—a moment, a relationship, or an internal realization?

Lara Kerner:

“The track was ignited by a profound, personal relationship. Every now and then, you encounter a person and experience an instantaneous, magnetic connection that defies logical explanation. It feels entirely predestined, as though the script was already written in the sky.

That level of chemistry can make you feel as though you are entirely losing control. While that surrender is an exquisite, wonderful feeling, it can simultaneously be terrifying. ‘Crave For You’ captures that precise, volatile threshold—the tension between resisting the pull or entirely leaning into the fire.”

Namita Nayyar:

The song opens a run of tracks that sit between the drive of “No Limits” and the candor of “Sorry.”How do you personally distinguish between a song that demands raw confession versus one that demands pure propulsion?

Lara Kerner:

“It completely depends on my internal landscape at the time of creation. There are seasons in life meant for heavy introspection, where you feel momentarily unmoored or lost, reflecting deeply on your missteps and triumphs. Those quiet, vulnerable moments naturally demand a raw confession—a sonic space like ‘Sorry’ to strip away the mask.

Conversely, there are moments where you feel completely galvanized. You are surrounded by a tribe of people you love, backed by positive, electric energy, and you operate under the absolute conviction that everything is possible. That state of empowerment demands pure, driving propulsion—a uplifting anthem like ‘No Limits’ to inspire the room.”

Namita Nayyar:

Can you walk us through one lyric in “Crave For You” that felt almost uncomfortable to write—and why you left it in?

Lara Kerner:

“My skin under your skin is like a battle that no one wins.” That specific line felt incredibly intimate and raw to write because it exposes a profound vulnerability. However, I absolutely refused to edit it out because it perfectly distills the complex, chaotic state of true passion.

It is highly sensual, yet it carries a deeper structural weight: it honors the reality that intense desire is surrender where both sides must lay down their defenses. There are no winners or losers in that kind of fire, only the connection itself.”

Namita Nayyar:

Your athletic background is extraordinary: competitive skiing, off-piste glacier runs, swimming, tennis, horse riding, combat sports, dance, and yoga. How do you integrate those disciplines now into a weekly routine that serves both your physical health and your creative energy?

Lara Kerner:

“For me, movement is non-negotiable; I naturally feel the need to stay highly active to maintain my internal equilibrium. However, I always listen closely to my body and never hesitate to slow down if it asks for rest. My relationship with sport is multi-dimensional. Skiing is a winter ritual—there is an unmatched sense of pure freedom in breathing the crisp, thin air at the peak of a high mountain.

Back home in London, tennis and Muay Thai are my weekly anchors. They act as a powerful release for stress, grounding me in the strength and power of my own physical form. This athletic discipline builds an unshakeable cognitive confidence; it proves to me that I can conquer absolutely anything I set my mind to. Dance, on the other hand, is a regular practice that beautifully nourishes my feminine energy. And whenever I can escape the heart of the city, I return to horse riding. Galloping completely unrestrained down an open beach at high speed is a breathtaking sensation of absolute liberty that feeds my creative soul.”

Namita Nayyar:

What does a typical workout week look like for you? (e.g., which days are high-intensity, which are recovery-focused, and where does yoga or dance fit in?)

Lara Kerner:

“I design my weeks to balance intense, explosive physical exertion with deeply restorative flows. Almost every single morning as soon as I wake up, I practice gentle yoga movements to wake up my joints and get my body moving. Yoga keeps me spiritually grounded, giving me deep mental clarity and peace.
A structured week for me typically flows like this:

Namita Nayyar:

Diet is often the unsung partner to high performance. Do you follow a specific nutritional philosophy (e.g., Mediterranean, intuitive eating, macro-aware) that supports both endurance sports and vocal performance?

Lara Kerner:

“I am an intuitive eater because I firmly believe that our nutritional requirements shift daily depending on our activity levels, our stress, and even the changing seasons. Because my lifestyle is incredibly demanding—combining heavy sports, vocal training, and acting—maintaining a clean, stable energy source is paramount.

I am very fortunate to be naturally drawn to wholesome food, and I eat almost zero processed items, prioritizing clean, home-cooked meals.

My plates always feature a high-quality source of lean protein, abundant vegetables, and complex whole grains. But do not misunderstand me—I don’t believe in rigid deprivation. I absolutely love chocolate and frequently indulge in a beautiful, homemade cake or dessert. It is all about tuning in and honoring what your body truly needs.”

Namita Nayyar:

After an intense show or recording session, what is your go-to meal or recovery ritual?

Lara Kerner:

“Before stepping onto a stage or entering a recording booth, the adrenaline and creative excitement completely take over, making it impossible for me to eat. Consequently, I am usually starving by the time the session ends!

Because these wraps often happen late at night, my go-to recovery meal must be light, nourishing, and incredibly easy to digest so it doesn’t disrupt my sleep. I love preparing clean proteins like grilled chicken, eggs, or wild prawns paired with fresh vegetables and dark brown or black rice. If I am completely exhausted and need something instant and comforting, a warm bowl of home-cooked lentil soup topped with a dollop of fresh yogurt is my ultimate remedy.”

Namita Nayyar:

You move seamlessly between high fashion, sportswear, and streetwear—always with intent. Who or what shaped your eye for style, and how did launching your own fashion line (pre-COVID) change how you dress for the stage versus real life?

Lara Kerner:

“Being French naturally gives you an innate appreciation for style, but my deepest aesthetic inspiration came from my beloved aunt, who worked in the heart of the Paris haute couture industry. She was the epitome of elegance and class.

She possessed a legendary eye for fashion; no matter where she walked, she was effortlessly the most dazzling, sophisticated person in the room. Her presence shaped my visual standard.

In everyday life, practicality means you cannot always wear head-turning editorial looks. That is why the stage is such a sanctuary for me. When I perform, I tap into that pure, childlike joy of fashion—treating the stage as a canvas where I can wear daring, dazzling, and utterly dreamy outfits that tell a story.”

Namita Nayyar:

Let’s talk skin care. With a life that spans dry mountain air, humid African climates, and now the UK, what is your non-negotiable skincare ritual—morning and night?

Lara Kerner:

“I have dry, highly sensitive skin, so my absolute non-negotiable priority is maintaining a clean, intensely hydrated skin barrier, adapting my specific products to whatever climate I land in. I have a strong preference for natural, clean formulations and deeply love French skincare houses like Caudalie.

Every single night, without exception, I cleanse my face using pure spring water and raw organic coconut oil. Coconut oil is actually my ultimate secret weapon—it dissolves even the heaviest stage or camera makeup seamlessly without stripping my skin’s natural oils. I follow this with a deeply penetrating hydrating serum, a rich moisturizing cream, and a targeted, nourishing eye cream to lock in moisture while I sleep.”

Namita Nayyar:

Your hair has been through different environments and styling for music videos, acting, and fashion. What are your essential products or practices for keeping it strong and expressive without over-processing?

Lara Kerner:

“Because my hair undergoes constant manipulation for music videos and acting roles, I protect it fiercely by enforcing a very gentle, low-heat styling philosophy. I always communicate clearly with stylists, asking them to handle my hair with absolute gentleness without pulling or causing mechanical stress.

My routine relies on premium, plant-based French hair care brands like Leonor Greyl, René Furterer, and Phyto Paris. I wash with a highly nourishing shampoo and always follow with a deep, intensive repairing mask. My ultimate, non-negotiable hair secret? I always finish every single wash by rinsing my hair with ice-cold water. It instantly seals the cuticles; boosts natural shine, and keeps the strands incredibly strong and expressive.”

Namita Nayyar:

Do you have a pre-show beauty or grooming ritual that helps you transition from the person to the channel?

Lara Kerner:

“Yes, my preparation is an intentional, transformative ritual. It begins in the shower, where I alternate between hot and cold water to instantly shock my nervous system, boost circulation, and flood my body with physical energy. I follow this with a short series of targeted stretches and fluid yoga poses to fully awaken my physical form.

In my day-to-day life, I wear virtually no makeup because I prefer to let my skin breathe. Therefore, the moment I sit down to do my hair and makeup for a performance, it acts as a profound psychological trigger. I can feel my internal energy shift. It is a total metamorphosis—I get overwhelmed with that pure, thrilled excitement of a little girl about to step into a fantasy world, stepping fully out of the ordinary and into the channel.”

Namita Nayyar:

You hold a Master’s in Finance and an engineering degree in computer science. At what point did you decide to walk away from the predictable path and into music, acting, and fashion—and what was the hardest month of that transition?

Lara Kerner:

“The truth is, there was never a brutal or sudden transition because I have always been an artist. Even during my rigorous academic years, I would spend my lunch breaks practicing vocals and spend my evenings in intensive acting courses. Whenever we had complex group presentations in university, I was always the one stepping forward to command the room and deliver the performance.

I never truly wanted to do anything else, but I deliberately chose to complete my degrees in finance and computer science because I wanted to hold my destiny firmly in my own hands. In the modern creative landscape, artists must be entrepreneurs. My scholarship was about empowerment; it equipped me with the foundational skills to operate as an independent businesswoman who understands the structural mechanics of her own industry. I always visualized myself at the intersection of art and business—creative vision backed by analytical execution.”

Namita Nayyar:

You’ve spoken about women needing to be “resilient, adaptable, and strong.” Can you share a specific failure or rejection that later became the foundation for one of your best creative works?

Lara Kerner:

“The most profound catalyst for my art was the sudden, tragic loss of my father in a fatal car crash. At the devastating moment he passed away, we had actually not spoken for an entire year. I loved my father deeply, but at that time, I allowed my ego to dictate my actions and drive a wedge between us over a disagreement I can no longer even remember.

That immense loss shattered my perspective and completely reshaped my writing. It stripped away all ornament and taught me to create from a place of absolute, unfiltered truth. It became the foundation of my resilience, teaching me to express exactly what I feel, when I feel it, with straight-to-the-vein honesty. You never know when it will be too late to lay down your pride and speak from the heart.”

Namita Nayyar:

Having lived on three continents before the UK, what is one cultural lesson about success that only Africa taught you, one from the US, and one from Europe?

Lara Kerner:

“Each continent gifted me a distinct, vital piece of my philosophy on success:

From Africa: I learned the power of strategic containment and sacred timing. Africa taught me to cultivate my creative projects quietly in the shadows, protecting the energy of a vision, and only unveiling it to the world when it is fully formed and unshakeable.

From the United States: I absorbed the culture of unbridled ambition. The US taught me to demolish self-imposed limits, to believe fiercely in my own value, and to back up big dreams with immediate, fearless, and massive physical action.

From Europe (specifically France): I learned to tune out the collective skepticism. Europe taught me to never let the limitations of others define my boundary. If someone tells you a dream is impossible, it is only impossible for them—not for you. If your mind can vividly construct the vision, the path to realize it already exists.”

Namita Nayyar:

Beyond “Crave For You” and the upcoming run of songs, what is the next visual or acting project where we’ll see you merge your screen presence with your music?

Lara Kerner:

“That is a brilliant question. I am currently developing an incredibly exciting film project where I will be interpreting the life of a globally famous singer, allowing me to fully merge my dramatic screen acting with my musical identity. However, honoring the lesson I brought back with me from my time in Africa, I am keeping the finer details close to my chest at this early stage until the production is ready to be revealed.”

Namita Nayyar:

In a niche-driven music industry, you’re carving out a space that refuses to choose between pop grandeur, athletic discipline, and dramatic depth. What does long-term success look like for you—five years from now?

Lara Kerner:

“All my life, people have tried to force me to choose, telling me that if you excel in one world, you cannot belong to another. I completely refuse to strip away my colors or dim my facets just to fit into a neat, predictable box that makes others feel safe. My father raised me with the unwavering conviction that I can be whoever I want and achieve whatever I choose to do in this life.

Five years from now, long-term success for me is defined by absolute artistic freedom—consistently writing, acting, and singing alongside exceptional creators who share my core values, while completely maintaining my personal health, running in the open parks, and staying true to my athletic roots. Musically, it looks like taking this fusion globally, performing multiple live shows across different countries, connecting deeply with audiences in the US, Europe, Africa, and perhaps even India.”

Namita Nayyar:

Finally, if a young woman today is trying to stop “performing” her life and start channeling it, what is the single most practical piece of advice you would give her—starting tomorrow morning?

Lara Kerner:

“Starting tomorrow morning, stop apologizing for the space you occupy and start listening fiercely to your own internal voice. When you step out to perform, create, or speak, find that exact, quiet spot inside yourself where there is no expectation, no judgment, and no desire to please—only pure pleasure. Drop your defenses, let go of the outcome, and let the energy move through you raw. Whatever comes out in that moment is exactly what is meant to be.”

Rapid-Fire Segment

Morning person or night owl? “I am a natural morning person, though during the long summer months, I love leaning into the energy of later nights.”
One song you wish you had written? “I Was Here” by Beyoncé.”
Heels or bare feet on stage? “Heels—always with intent.”
Last thing you do before sleep? “I completely relax my body, execute a series of gentle, fluid stretches to release the day, and say a prayer.”
Crave For You in three emojis: “(Heart, Fire, Water).”
