Women Fitness President Ms. Namita Nayyar catches up with Alina Ross a professional Equestrian from Germany to talk about her secret to success, diet, and exercise routine.

Namita Nayyar:

You are a professional Equestrian.  Walk us through your spectacular journey and tell us how it all began?

Alina Ross:

I´ve has been on horses since I can remember. My parents owned three horses at that time and I was at the stable every day and rode a lot. When I was 6 years old, I saw at a competition that there isn’t only riding but also vaulting. From that time on I trained more and more, developed more ambition and fell more and more in love with the sport.

Namita Nayyar:

What has been your greatest achievement to date?

Alina Ross:

I think my greatest success is what I have learned and achieved, supported by my parents, coaches and friends: trust, self-discipline, ambition, personality, strength, perseverance,…

Namita Nayyar:

Introduce us to a day in your life.

Alina Ross:

A normal day looks like that:

First thing in the morning I go to the stable and put our horses out to pasture, then I jog a few laps to start the day. Then I stretch and do one of my strength training programs. After lunch I go back to the stable and train on the barrel in my gymnastic room there. Then I muck out the boxes and after that I usually train on the horse. At the end of the day I train on the barrel again and do a second strength training program or do some athletics training.

Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine that you may like to share?

Alina Ross:

I do a lot of strength training for shoulders, biceps, triceps and ab muscles. Exercise such as: chin-ups, different push up variations, handstands, dumbbell training, sit ups and so on. Some exercises I do with extra weights. I also often train on gymnastic equipment, such as parallel bars or wall bars.

Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Alina Ross:

Yes, I am convinced that a healthy diet is essential for physical fitness. I don’t over eat. I try to fuel my body with proper food and have a balanced diet. e.g. eggs, rice, fish, vegetables, milk products…..

Namita Nayyar:

Having to train constantly in extreme weather conditions, how do you take care of your skin and hair?

Alina Ross:

Good question… To be honest, I don´t really deal with it either. I don´t like creams or something like that. After an arduous routine I take a long shower and that’s it. Hahaha 🙂

Namita Nayyar:

Who has been your greatest influence and motivator in your success in the field of your career?

Alina Ross:

Oh, I think that are several people…

A big part in my career is played by my parents Kerstin & Volker, my great lunger Marion Schulze, my matchless coaches Daniel Kaiser& Manfred Hoffmann and also my lovely horses. Without their support I wouldn´t be where I am now.

Namita Nayyar:

Five years from now, where do you see yourself?

Alina Ross:

I’m not sure. Hopefully doing gymnastics on my horse or in the gym 😉

Namita Nayyar:

Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and upcoming athletes who all are your fans? Five tips to work upon their skills.

Namita Nayyar:

How do you train your legs? Tell us your circuit.

Alina Ross:

There are three parts of my leg workout: Stretching, muscle building and bounce.

In my sport flexibility plays a big role. I stretch for half an hour in the morning and half an hour in the afternoon. To build up muscles in the thighs, I mainly do squats – one-legged, deep squats, squats with weights, squat holds, walking lunges…

For jumping power I do a lot of stretch jumps, bounce jumps and skipping. Everything also with weight cuffs. I also train my muscles by running and sprinting.

Namita Nayyar:

Tell us about your preparations for future championships.

Alina Ross:

Actually I´m just preparing myself by training a lot to get better. My training is quite varied: Strength, endurance, agility, choreography, technique, athletics, coordination, gymnastics and training on the horseback. I create a training plan every three months to work on my weaknesses.
