Águeda López Beauty Queen to Wellness Advocate

September 28, 2026 By Namita Nayyar (Editor in chief)

Namita Nayyar:

You have a background in journalism. Did that education help when you decided to write your own story?

Águeda López:

Definitely, although writing a novel requires a very different kind of creativity.

Journalism teaches you discipline observation, curiosity, and the importance of understanding people and their stories. All of that helped me tremendously.

But fiction asks you to surrender more. You have to create atmosphere, emotion, characters and silence. Sometimes what a character doesn’t say is as important as what she says.

Writing La niña que siempre miraba al sol allowed me to combine those two sides of myself: the observer and the dreamer.

Namita Nayyar:

What was the biggest cultural or professional shock when you moved from Spain to Miami and entered the US market?

Águeda López:

Starting again.

When you move to another country, whatever you have accomplished somewhere else doesn’t necessarily travel with you. You have to introduce yourself again, prove yourself again and learn a completely different professional culture.

Miami was also fascinating because it was a meeting point between Latin America, the United States and Europe. I had to adapt while still protecting the things that made me who I was.

Eventually I understood that being Spanish, being European, and having my own story wasn’t something I needed to change. It was actually part of what differentiated me.

Namita Nayyar:

You started as a classical dancer, transitioned to modeling, and are now an author and businesswoman. How do these different aspects of your career connect?

Águeda López:

For me, they all come from the same place: creativity.

Classical dance taught me discipline and how to communicate through movement. Modeling taught me how to tell a story through an image. Writing allows me to communicate through words. And entrepreneurship gives me the opportunity to transform ideas into something tangible.

The medium changes, but the need to create has always been there.

I also think women sometimes feel pressure to define themselves by one profession or one chapter. I don’t believe we have to. We can evolve. We can be curious. We can reinvent ourselves many times throughout our lives.

Namita Nayyar:

Was it difficult balancing a new high-profile relationship with Luis Fonsi and your career?

Águeda López:

Of course there were adjustments. When two people have demanding careers, travel constantly and live part of their lives publicly, you have to learn very quickly what belongs to the outside world and what belongs only to you.

From the beginning, it was important for both of us to support each other’s careers while protecting our relationship and, later, our family.

I think the key has always been respect for each other’s individuality. We are partners, but we are also two people with our own dreams and professional identities.

Over the years, we’ve learned that the most important part of our life happens when the cameras are gone and we’re simply at home with our children.

Namita Nayyar:

How has motherhood changed your perspective on your career and ambitions?

Águeda López:

Motherhood changed everything, especially my relationship with time.

Before having children, ambition can be very individual: What do I want to accomplish? Where do I want to go next? After becoming a mother, every decision becomes part of a bigger picture.

I still have dreams—and probably more than ever—but I’m much more intentional about which opportunities deserve my time.

My children have also made me more creative. They remind me to be curious and playful and not to take everything so seriously. Many ideas I’ve had over the years, including projects related to children and writing, were influenced by seeing the world through their eyes.

Success for me today isn’t simply doing more. It’s being able to continue growing professionally while being truly present for the people I love.

Namita Nayyar:

How has your fitness routine evolved as you’ve gotten older and become a mother?

Águeda López:

My relationship with exercise has changed enormously. When I was younger and modeling constantly, exercise was often connected to appearance. Today it’s much more connected to longevity, strength, energy and mental health.

I usually train 6 times a week and combine strength training with cardio and mobility. Strength training has become increasingly important to me as I’ve gotten older because maintaining muscle is fundamental for healthy aging.

My goal isn’t simply to look fit. I want to be strong, energetic and independent for as many years as possible.
