Olympian Bianca Knight Talks About Fitness, Diet & Living Her Dreams

Bianca Knight is an American former track and field athlete, who competed in the 100 and 200 meters. At the 2012 Summer Olympics Knight won a team event gold medal in the 4×100 metres relay team. In the final, the quartet of Tianna Madison, Allyson Felix, Knight and Carmelita Jeter, broke a standing 27 year old world record.

Women Fitness President talks to track & field athlete about her journey to success.

Namita Nayyar:

You attended Ridgeland High School in Ridgeland, Mississippi and won the female Gatorade Athlete of the Year in track and field in 2006. Besides you hold the distinction of being the inaugural Mississippi native to win a Gatorade Athlete of the Year award. What factors do you consider were responsible that made you achieve this goal?

Bianca Knight:

Being the only Mississippian to win a Gatorade Athlete of the Year award is one of my greatest honors, especially considering how many talented athletes our state has produced. I believe that because I dominated in my sport beginning in the 7th grade as a 13 year old, and also due to having good grades, I believe those factors made it really hard for me to be looked over. 

Namita Nayyar:

Exercises that comprise your fitness regime you shall like to share? 5 all-time full-body stretches.

Bianca Knight:

5 exercises that I absolutely love and I believe are very helpful for the body as a whole are Russian Dead Lifts —single legged and together, wood chops, Russian twists, barbell squats, and dumbbell snatches.  These are just exercises that I feel make me feel more fluid afterwards, and they involve my entire body.

Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit? The food you eat while traveling to other countries?

Bianca Knight:

I’ve never had a super strict diet. Typically I just cut back on things I shouldn’t have a lot of.  My nutritionist would usually pack things for me to eat for travel days, like pretzels, Luna Bars, Cliff Bars, etc. Going to other countries is definitely hit or miss on the food, so packing things like tuna, noodles, or any other food that travels well and won’t go bad before you make it is usually a good idea.
