Excessive Sweating In Women: 3 Possible Causes & Solutions

May 30, 2018 By Namita Nayyar (WF Team)

Sweating In Women

Though dampness may sometimes be regarded as an evil created by an uncaring cosmos (especially when you’re out and about in white clothing during the summer season), there are other reasons why females sweat, and they go further beyond just helping them appear vaguely exhausted and shiny after 50 reps in the HIIT class.

Detective hands on, towels by the side, here are 3 reasons for profound sweating in women:

  • Menopause: Excessive sweating in females during menopause is quite normal. The condition can make them feel hot in their upper body or all areas (including head, face, and neck region). Some women also experience red blotches on their arms, chest, and back, followed by cold shivers. However, excessive sweating caused by menopause is an indication of body’s natural response to estrogen, so it is not regarded as dangerous.
  • Anxiety: Sweat-based reactions are common when females face situations that trigger their anxiety. For instance, introverts may experience excessive sweating and other symptoms like trembling and nausea when someone attempts to socialize with them.
  • Hyperthyroidism: It’s a disorder that’s characterized by a hyperactive thyroid gland. Women suffering from this condition experience a wide range of symptoms including profound sweating. Some other hyperthyroidism symptoms include warm skin, loose nails, diarrhea, anxiety, irritability, red palms, and heart palpitations.

How to Address Excessive Sweating

How to Stop Sweating is the first thing that comes to mind if excessive perspiring exists. The good news is there are several solutions for addressing this condition. For instance, a clinical-strength antiperspirant from Sweat Block and other similar companies can cut down on sweating for 4-7 days. This is great to help women stay confident for occasions like public speaking, meetings, and weddings/special events. The best results come from antiperspirants that include higher amounts of aluminum chloride, as aluminum chloride is what obstructs the sweat.

Another thing you can do is learn how to relax. As anxiety is one of the primary causes of excessive sweating, understanding how to manage it will take you one step closer to beating unwanted sweat. Here’s what you can do: trick your mind into thinking common anxiety inducers are no biggie. These could include exams, projects, client calls, etc.… whatever raises those stress levels. Anxiety sweat happens when your mind red flags a situation, causing you to go into panic mode. It’s also a good idea to study your thoughts; ask yourself, what is it about a situation that’s making you nervous? Once a source of stress is established, it becomes a lot easier to address it.

Iontophoresis treatment

Additionally, you can try Iontophoresis treatment if the procedure is available in your locality. The process involves using a small machine to transfer a mild electrical current via water, and it is quite effective at treating sweaty feet and palms. The minerals and the electrical work in conjunction to slightly thicken the skin’s top layer to prevent sweat from flowing onto the skin’s surface. However, more than one iontophoresis session would be needed to help feet and palms sweat less. Eventually, excessive sweaters are placed on a maintenance schedule of once a month or once a week, depending on their specific needs.

It isn’t always straightforward to figure out what procedure will work best to stop excessive sweating. However, once you find the right solution, you can worry less about facial swear, sweat-drenched clothing or clammy palms.
